Late to the party but this is awesome news!

I know the parcel where Ruth’s Chris is next to this site is pretty small but man would love to see something a little bit more substantial built there. Doesn’t even need to be something tall, something like the B Tower. What’s the story behind that building anyways? Surprised a. Small one story building has survived this long on Tryon.

that one story retail building was purposedly built there for these reasons:  when the former office tower at 230 S Tryon was converted to condos that parcel was part of a surface parking lot.  The pool for the condos is right behind the Ruth's Chris single story building so I doubt this building will be replaced anytime soon.    Nobody wants their pool in shadows most of the day.

To add to this, its very purpose built, number 1 goal is preserving views for the Condos.

Oops I forgot that one and that is probably the biggest one .  I remember the old surface parking lot there next to the old NC Federal Building at 230 S Tryon.  I think Spectrum Properties did this.

And now for something completely different.......

Do I spy a pile driver on the corner of N College and E 7th Street?  Isn't this supposed to be a hotel?  Anyone have any info?

Speaking of, what are they doing to 7th St by Duckworths?  Those barricades in the pic go to the corner at Tryon.  They’re painting the road green and adding dashed lines, which totally occupies the eastbound lane of 7th there.  I assumed the barriers were for construction, but the road painting thoroughly confuses me.  That cannot be a one-way on 7th for that block.  That’ll be a mess.

2 hotels in Charlotte (same number in Wilmington and Durham) were named by Michelin Guide as hotels of distinction in NC.  There were only 15 in total.   All 3 Kimton hotels in the state were mentioned.

@CLT Development your favorite in Raleigh is named.

The first place listed is the Blind Tiger in Asheville. I have no knowledge of the place. What I offer is that a blind tiger was (is) a person or place that sells illegal alcohol. Having a father who lived through Prohibition, he taught me this term long ago. He gave as an example a man who had numerous pockets on the inside of his coat and each had a bottle of some spirituous liquor. Money passed, a hand went into the coat and a bottle slipped into the pocket of another man.

I keep this forum honest with the most up to date news about 1925.
