Good Samaritan Hospital is in that photo beyond the Observer parking deck. Also Third Ward recreation center where I played Park and Rec league basketball in '78-79. Shoot around the lights hanging from the ceiling. "Lights" is a generous word for the illumination provided. Even though they hung low enough to interfere with the game there were dark spots everywhere. No reason to improve the facility as it was a short-time building. (I failed to discover my of-FEN-sive i-DEN-tity.) Isabella Wyche elementary school which became a day release jail facility. Go to work during the day and report for lock up in the evening. This was some of what the stadium replaced.

I think the photo was from the roof of the original Wachovia building on S Tryon.

Wow - way before my time.  I wouldn’t have been able to even identify what City or State this photo was taken ….
Thought I was a Charlotte ‘OG’ because I’ve been here for a whole 7 years now….

I wasn’t even alive… lol

Today's CBJ  -  "Kenan-Flagler putting Charlotte MBA school at Legacy Union"

Excerpt  -  "UNC Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School finally has a Charlotte home: Legacy Union on South Tryon Street, where the inaugural class of the new executive MBA program will begin classes this fall.  The arrival of Kenan-Flagler’s MBA program marks the culmination of a years-long lobbying effort by Charlotte business leaders, most prominent among them retired Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) CEO Hugh McColl Jr.   The MBA program will be housed at the BofA tower at Legacy Union, the 10-acre uptown site developed by Lincoln Harris that includes multiple office towers.  The BofA building at 620 S. Tryon St. is a 33-story, 841,164-square foot tower."

"Kenan-Flagler is targeting 40 students for its inaugural class and Dean Doug Shackelford said the current pace will put the school close to that number.  But, he added, “it’s a long sales cycle for an MBA program, particularly for a program as demanding as ours.”  "An orientation in Chapel Hill in September will be the first step for the incoming Charlotte class.   According to the school, Kenan-Flagler faculty will teach classes in Charlotte on Mondays in person and occasionally on Fridays.   There will also be “impact weekends” in Chapel Hill combining students from both school sites, and a course that incorporates lunches and programs with Charlotte-based CEOs and other executives."

I think that the UNC business and law schools should be in the state’s commercial capital: Charlotte.

All I can say to UNC Chapel Hill the USC Darla Moore School of Business and Belk College of Business of UNC Charlotte welcome the competition.

Nope, there is a parking podium under the office. The front half is poured concrete, the back half is precast, much like Lowes Design Center Tower. I have schematics for the building.

This garage is even better hidden than Honeywell’s.  I would not have guessed that there was a garage at the bottom.

While I was in the Duke Energy Plaza 12th floor yesterday, took a quick photo of this project's progress.  Moving along I guess.

I have no idea how they are catching up so quickly to 110 East and Ascent Southend! Great picture here as well!

Those two sites had extensive Site work and/or demolition work required as well.  All building pads at LU are more Ready to Build and probably even have Utilities stubbed to them so anything breaking ground here can start going vertical in short order.  Type of Deep Foundation used also can play into the rapid building process.  This Podium will take some time though because it has a Cast In Place Structural Parking Component which takes a long time to build.

That is a really good point, I didn’t think about the fact that this site was already ready for the construction to start! I watched them tear down for the Ascent building and they really had a lot to clean up (they even had to dig out a portion of a basement!). Site prep is usually one of the hardest construction activities to estimate time for, especially when there are buildings to be demolished. I’ll definitely note that as they build the podium though!
