If our colors are green & blue, green & black, or better yet, green & blue & black, I'll be more likely to go with a name less appealing. That said, nothing will make me interested in a team called "Drive." That is the most unoriginal and rediculously un-Greenville name I have heard yet, regardless of any attempt to tie it to ICAR.

Several weeks ago when I posted the rumor about the "Drive" name, I was really hoping it was a load of crap. But it's looking more and more like that's the name they have chosen. They NEVER accepted outside input and NEVER planned on it being anything other than "Drive."

Who knows where this decision came from, but any pretense of "gee, which name will we choose?" is all a charade.

(My fingers are still crossed that I'm wrong.)

Is there anyone there we can email? If so, we should all email them telling them what our preference is (e.g., Green Sox) while also voicing our disgust over a name like "Drive."

Do you think something like this could have an impact, or will they not really care what a dozen people say in emails?

We could all write letters to the editor at Greenville News and hope they get published. Get the word out that this name is awful! The "Drive"....please....

I've posted this before and I'll post it again:

Send Craig, Nate, and Brenda an e-mail and tell them how you feel! I just did! :yahoo:

I'm also not going to be very happy if this rumor of the name being the "Greenville Drive" turns out to be true. However original, it just doesn't make sense when there are so many other choices that would be far superior.

Thanks for the link RT! I just wrote with my opinion on the name also. :)

While on the site, noticed this news about the Sally League:

Yeah. I saw some of those folks while I was downtown yesterday. They were on the walkin' tour going south on Main going towards the stadium or ballpark to others. They really seemed excited especially about Riverplace and the park.

I overheard in a meeting today that the name was scheduled to be unveiled next Tuesday, but now the announcement will occur on Thursday (the 27th). The fellow did not say what the name is, but the way he phrased it, the name has definitely been decided.

Just a rumor, treat it as such (though this particular person who made these statements is a big booster of the Braves/Bombers/Thingamajigs.)

I saw today in the paper that Shoeless Joe's bat Black Betsy is being sold at auction at Sotheby's. That has to be in the Shoeless Joe museum at the Ball Park. All agreed? We should convince the team owners or developers to pay what ever it takes to bring it to Greenville.
