VCU Developments

Here's a quick dash cam video I made of the Grace Street VCU corridor today. It shows some of the progress of the construction projects in the area.

The vid is a little shaky but that's because it's mounted to the windshield and the roads are rough; blame Richmond not me!

Nice video!  What is the construction to the left as the video begins (just as you are turning right onto Grace)?  Looks like elevator shafts they are building in concrete.  The Grace Street corridor is looking very canyon-like!  Keep the vids coming!

Does anyone have any information about the development on Harrison St (between Grace and Broad) across the street from the construction in the Ukrops parking lot. I'm talking the building behind (and attached to?) Panda Garden. It looks like they've added a couple of floors to the buildings.

You can see a little of it in the video I posted above.

The buildings in question

Apparently a small Walmart will anchor the new VCU Office Building on W. Grace @ Shafer:

A lot of people are debating the whole "big box" thing, but again, it can't really even be that imposing, as it's only 4,100 square feet. At least the new high rise has a retail tenant secured. Will be interesting to see how it looks when it's completed next to the Square.

Really? Seems a bit of an overkill, right?

Not at all.  The 93,000 sq ft addition includes sub-level(s).  I have seen tower cranes for the now infamous 5 to 6 story stick-framed residential buildings sprouting within the urban areas of the US.

Looks like a new Walgreens is coming to the intersection of Broad and Belvedere across from the VCU's new ICA -

Heh, it's funny, I would have rather put a distinctive high rise or something a little more intensive at such a major intersection.

Still better than a gas station though, I guess.

There is definitely a tower crane at the construction site of the Cabell Library addition.  Webcam below:
