  1. I doubt that it would cost that much, unless they are going to finish the twin towers? The state has already paid and created the foundations for the second tower.
  2. A lot of new development is coming to Petersburg! 34 Million in bonds were just approved for our new court house / downtown redevelopment. A private developer is also redeveloping an old hospital site and putting in over 300 town homes that will be in the 300 -400 price range with a new community grocery store and a Southern Kitchen.
  3. Exciting news for the city of Petersburg! After decades of lying dormant, Hotel Petersburg is undergoing a $13.5 million renovation and is set to open its doors for the first time since 1969. The upscale boutique hotel will feature 68 rooms, street-level dining, a bar, banquet facilities, and an outdoor courtyard for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And if funding allows, there may even be a rooftop bar! The renovation has been underway for the past two years, with crews finishing mold abatements and replacing windows. The ground floor will showcase extensive marble work, decorative plaster molding, and coffered ceilings, while the upper floors will focus on comfort and space. The hotel's unique character and downtown environment are key players in the boutique hotel experience. This project is being led by primary developer Nat Cuthbert, who believes that demand for a boutique hotel like this has come "full circle." The hotel's location is prime, with easy access to Virginia State University's Multipurpose Center, Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie County, and the region's historic tourism. Retro Hospitality, a Richmond-based company, is serving as an advisor during development and will ultimately manage the hotel once it opens. The company specializes in historic boutique hotels with between 50-100 rooms and has worked on projects such as Staunton's Blackburn Inn, Warrenton's Black Horse Inn, and the Hotel Weyanoke in Farmville. Hotel Petersburg has the potential to boost the local economy and be a linchpin to future development in the city. Similar to the success of Quirk Hotel in Richmond, Hotel Petersburg could help spur development and infrastructure in the area. We can't wait to see this once abandoned and blighted building come back to life and become a destination for tourists and locals alike!
  4. There is a lot of action going on in Petersburg, not sure who the developer is but they have bought up a lot of the single family homes and are flipping them. If any of you are first time developers this market has a great ROI. Also the parking deck is almost done and the Hotel Petersburg is making progress. I'm also restoring two to make a total of five structures which I have saved, please follow my Facebook page Marcus Omar Squires to follow the progress on my two developments.
  5. New Laboratories and warehouses to be built in Petersburg with the possibility of almost a billion dollar contract to be awarded over ten years! They are also bringing over 350 jobs to Petersburg. https://www.dailyprogress.com/news/state/phlow-contract-crowns-virginia-push-to-become-leader-in-innovation/article_8f5716c2-cc77-5c6c-81f4-932df65485df.html https://ampacfinechemicals.com
  6. The hotel project is coming along nicely and was recently approved to have a roof top bar/ restaurant. Also 400 apartments are coming online downtown as Thalhimer is putting in 200 more on top of the 200 in the art lofts.
  7. New CMI VA (Veterans Affairs) Clinic to be built in Petersburg just outside of the Downtown Historic District. 26,000 sf
  8. The 110 South Perry Street groundbreaking event was a success. From what was said at the event the project is set to be a game-changer for our city bringing affordable housing as well as artists and reinvestment into the neighborhood.https://richmondbizsense.com/2019/07/17/58m-artist-focused-apartment-project-breaks-ground-petersburg/
  9. I drove around Sycamore Street in Petersburg to capture some of the development going on in the last year and presently. Also according to the Architectural Review Board, 15 more projects are in the pipeline for redevelopment in the near future. Petersburg and Short Pump are almost the same distance from Down Town Richmond, the region will eventually see Petersburg as an affordable alternative. A new hat shop is starting to set up shop here, the facade should be getting ready for a face lift. These three buildings on the end have been undergoing renovation, two are completely finished. Construction is commencing on El Mundo De Las Delicias, they are going to restore the facade to its original 1850's facade. H These three buildings have had apartments all installed above them and just finished up, the building on the end here is starting to have its commercial space renovated as the two others have already been compleated in the last year. Dj has added this addition for the finished apartments over his commercial space to allow for a stairwell and elevator this year. This group of builds has all been undergoing renovation in the last year apart from the one on the very end. The Inn is finishing up on its renovation. This building is undergoing renovation for a new candy shop. Local Vibes has taken over the old building next door and is renovating it. The courthouse is completed, still missing its chandelier. These two buildings have been renovated this year. This building is being renovated, they just got done painting the bricks this week. This building was one of the extremely run down buildings in the district and is being renovated for apartments and retail. This old mansion on Sycamore towards central park was just purchased and the planning commission has approved it to become an event venue and bed and breakfast. Bon Ran has just renovated this building and opened a restaurant here.
  10. Hotel Petersburg is under renovation currently dealing with lead paint abatement. Hopefully will be open in 2021 Location downtown Petersburg. https://vimeo.com/323262476/eecc613e98?fbclid=IwAR3RLsCByUoInHur5Q4T94Z-s_uCELKG4mIWd8ua109T-JuqWFVKXMYWSo4
  11. Yes, the ideal is that people from Emporia and other areas of south side will drive to Petersburg and take the bus to work in Richmond.
  12. The state has awarded the city a grant to build a parking deck, this is from the city council agenda hopefully more news of larger projects will come.
  13. Hey, I'm holding a ceremony in Kanawha Plaza, I'm installing a waypoint sign as the chairman of the Richmond Sister Cities Commission. It's taking place on August 6th, at noon. Also yes enRichmond does control the park. Thank you all for your support on these pages - Marcus
  14.
