  1. What a great area to grow up in though. My kids will grow up there one day. I grew up in Goshen, hehe. Hey George, go to St. Paul's while you're on the Riverwalk. Open most days from 9-5, you can just walk in and look around. A lot of our history is there (the parish is only 20 years younger than Augusta!!). If you go on Sunday, they give you Starbucks coffee. A lot of cool stuff on the inside.
  2. Broad Street and Monte Sano Avenue are the kings antique shops around here. I'd follow Socaguy's advice on the club scene, only I might add the Modjeska---seems to be a smart club with a diverse crowd (Not really into the club scene). Also, King George closed, but in its place opened Red Hughes Irish Pub--Bill Gates ate there a few weeks ago when he was in town (yeah, we were hanging out ). Also, if you want to walk around go to Summerville aka The Hill. Very pretty area and lots to see. Some of the prettiest churches ever. Walk up McDowell Street and you'll be dead-center of the Pillsbury's stomping grounds (yes, I'm referring to myself in the 3rd person). For fun, go to Augusta Country Club on Milledge Road and ask to buy Masters badges. It gets them every single time!!! I'm addicted to coffee---especially expensive coffee. It's horrible. Old Towne is nice, but don't go below 3rd Street. For added fun, go to Columbia County and count the Saabs and BMWs. Also count the Tahoes with W stickers (it's like counting the stars my friend). For even more fun, go to the southside and count the rebel flag stickers and cars riding on 26 inch rims (sometimes you're lucky enough to find a car sporting a combination of both!!!) If you really want to get down with the local scene, go get a lawn chair, sit in Daniel Village parking lot, and tell people you're waiting for Tiger's plane to arrive. Yes, people really do that. If you need directions, let me know.
  3. You're coming for reasons other than golf? What on earth??? Oooh, I love this part: 1. Go eat at the French Market in Surrey Center. Great place to people watch and the crowd won't be that bad because most of the patrons will not have arrived yet----but you may see some professional golfers and some execs from CBS. 2. Nice little eclectic shops can be found down on Broad Street and up on the Hill on Monte Sano Avenue (there also some cool shops down Central Avenue, but their coffee sucks!!!) 3. Go to Partridge Inn and have a cocktail. Not sure if it'll be crowded, but it's a great spot located right at the Summerville Ridge and you can see all of the city. 4. Go to the Soul Bar if you want to hang out. It's a bar dedicated to James Brown---the crowd is diverse, but respectful, and there is virtually no snobbery or cliquiness (word???) there, which is unheard of in Augusta. Downtown has really great restaurants. There is Tap Tap (which I've heard is good), La Maison (which has gone laid back from what I understand), the Bees Knees (the original tapas bar), Blue Sky Kitchen (mmmmm), Nacho Mama's (one of the original restaurants to open on Broad), and, I guess, the Pizza Joint (I say that with reservation because they're inconsistent in my opinion, and in all reality, Mellow Mushroom at 10th and Broad is better). Also, good coffee can be found at Metro and Blue Moon. Blue Moon has a bigger selection, but Metro will give you a shot of Bailey's and let you take it with you in a to-go cup. Remember, if you really want to act like a local, wear a blazer, khakis, and loafers, walk and drive everywhere with a drink in your hand, and then act upset if you meet someone who isn't from California, New York, or Europe. I shall write more. What might your interests be George? Interesting sidenote, I'll actually be in your neck of the woods next week, helping my cousin move back from Chapel Hill!!!
  4. and waiting and wating........... Yeah, somehow I think the closest I can get to Atlanta for $600 a month is.....well....Madison.
  5. ^ Hehe. Although they were probably having a little fun at Augusta's expense, is there a reason why people in Savannah and Augusta drag everything out when they talk? I mean, it's like Gone With The Wind mixed with that one guy off Dazed and Confused. Either way, it'll be like moving from a slow-moving creek to white water rafting. I'm just waiting on that cool two-bedroom $600 a month apartment to open up in Virginia-Highlands.
  6. Way to go Atlanta. I was walking in to eat lunch today at a restaurant and the three guys ahead of me stopped, pointed at the AJC box, and one said, "Man, how big is it going to get?" That is a good question. In all probability you'll get an extra resident from Augusta this Summer!!! They just keeping coming and coming!!!
  7. Richmond County added people???? I can't believe it. I just about fell out of my chair!!1
  8. I agree---Saturday voting would be a great idea. I agree with you Ryan on everything you said, but I do have to say that Lenox is a bit different. It's kind of an Atlanta institution......
  9. I went to the new shops this past weekend. Very cool if I might say so myself. The Harris Teeter is the biggest grocery store I've ever stepped foot in. Downtown was also very cool--- a lot has changed over the last few years.
  10. It just kind of tilted to its side and then flew off. I mean it was weird. Let me also say that there is an Air Force base somewhere over near Columbia and then of course down in Warner Robins. But they usually stop about about 30 miles from town. Someone told me they weren't supposed to fly over populated areas if they could help it. I don't know. I've never seen anything like it before.
  11. From what I heard, Hank Aaron had to close a bunch of stores and he closed ours. But I think Taylor is buying it, so they're still be plenty of Land Rovers for the yuppies. And where's that hamburger place supposed to go? It should've been opened by now!!!! I'm getting angry!!!
  12. I don't care what anyone says, I saw one hovering over a private gated community in suburban Augusta in the Fall of 2004. I sat there for maybe 10 minutes watching it hover. It was amazing. I also have a friend in Roswell (Georgia) who saw the same thing.
  13. Well, North Carolina's case, Duke and Wake Forest are excellent schools, but so is UNC, which, if you're an NC resident, is much better on the pocketbook. In Georgia's case, UGA is much better than the other law schools except Emory, but is much much cheaper, think $40K as opposed to $10K a year. Law schools are weird though, because if a school is accredited, you're eligible for a lot more federal funding than if it's not accredited. Thus, Elon is no more expensive than Mercer or Charleston, but because it's not yet accredited, it makes it harder to secure funding for the student. So yeah, all the state schools ((UGA, UNC, Virginia, etc) are excellent and even better than many of the private ones (Mercer, John Marshall, Elon, Charleston). North Carolina's interesting in that it has three powerhouse law schools, compared to Georgia's two. I'm hardpressed to think of a state outside of maybe Mass. and Cali. that have better colleges for its residents---certainly none in the South is better than North Carolina in that regard.
  14. Well Greensboro is my first choice as far as where to live!!! It's just that at this point, Elon is not my first choice given my financial situation.
  15. Man, there are more Columbia County kids at GSU than Richmond??? That sucks!!!
  16. Thanks Transitman and Nowensone!!! The doughboy is unfortunately poor and is about to go into a massive amount of debt and get even poorer!!! Greensboro is my preferred city to live in (I even have people in High Point and Chapel Hill!!!) but my eligibility for federal loans is dictated by whether or not I attend an accredited school. So I wait!!! Thanks for the suggestions!!!! I'm really quite fond of that neighborhood that you drive through on Wendover (I think!!!) right before downtown. It's very pretty and reminds me of my neighborhood here.
  17. Thank you so much. It sounds like a great school. My next questions might involve the coolest places in Greensboro to live!!!!
  18. Yeah, it's only their second full year I believe. As I understand, they've applied to be provisionally accredited from the ABA. It's not identified on their website, but a lot of people knew Charleston would get theirs before it was published. So......just curious as to what type of reputation Elon University has up in that area as that often dictates how fast a place is accredited.* * The pigs in Georgia won't let me sit for the bar exam if I don't graduated from an accredited school. Neither will NC as I understand it.
  19. Hello North Carolinians. The Doughboy is considering a move to the Triad. Does anyone know anything about Elon Law School? Thanks!!!!
