  1. It seems to me like they're trying to establish a "scholarly" classic university look since most of the buildings were a bit bland/modern. .....Or am I thinking of CPCC?
  2. I was speaking to someone today who is working with one of these banks in the commercial estate area. I tried really hard to sniff some info out, but all I got was a confirmation on thriftyness.
  3. Closest place for lackluster business lunches and moderately priced after work drinks & appetizers in the area.
  4. Nah. It was the food. I'm not a picky eater and I think my unnecessary optimism has been evident here, but that stuff was just bad. Many dishes I tried tasted stale, cheap, and/or microwaved. Their "blue" tortilla (chips?) had me thinking I was dying and needed an emergency colonoscopy the next day. I had one thing that was solidly mediocre, but the rest was just bad.
  5. I walked by Rock Bottom the other day and couldn't figure out how that place was still open. I remember being excited about it when it initially came to town. I've only been twice in the past few years, but good gosh if that wasn't some of the worst food I've eaten in a while.
  6. I have actually worked on a similar production before. Yes, people can be encouraged to exaggerate emotions to prove some point and add "drama", but they usually come up with what to say on their own.
  7. Seriously so condescending. This is not some haystack, and even if it was, there's no need to be a jerk about it.
  8. Glad to see this chugging along. I hope they can pull something fun together. Never been to Topgolf, but I'm more likely to go to this one if there will be other activities to choose from before and after. I'd love to see a movie theater, bowling, and maybe even an escape room as well as the usual bar and restaurant deal. One day you will be able to spend a nice morning eating and paddling at the fake lake, the afternoon doing some discount shopping and losing your s--t at IKEA, and an evening playing "golf". Sound like a middle class fancy good time!
  9. I wish they would make people on Randolph Rd turn down that side street and enter the drive thru from the back. Dangit, Chick Fil A! Stop holding up traffic with your stupid, delicious chicken!
  10. I didn't say it was some highly special historical landmark. I just like it, and I like the old school vibe and randomness of some parts of it. Variety is the spice of life.
  11. I really do like Marshall park. It's underutilized, but the little body of water is nice and the place makes for some really great pictures. Not to mention some of my best protesting memories. Oh well... Charlotte's gonna Charlotte.
  12. I actually like the room design, but I'm very much over all this muted tone, everything-looks-the-same design sensation. I can see the Spanish influence (why, though?) and I see color, so it works for me.
  13. I have a blue light filter on my phone and I though those were random grassy patches. What in the parking hell....
  14. No one is ignoring that, but that is precisely why it need not be mentioned. What is the point? Only a handful of cities worldwide can be compared, so why bring it up when discussing our wonderful city or the many, many other great places that are similar?
  15. Thanks. That seems nice, but I think I have made it known before that I am municipally petty and I want Charlotte to have all the nice things.
  16. Is it common to want to hang out around a practice facility? Common enough to expect a whole slew of development like this?
  17. I was just speaking to someone the other day about how Charlotte tends to get small/lazy versions of places that are much nicer in other places (i.e. the Ritz). What point do we need to reach in order to stop getting sample sizes and hollow display case models?
  18. Thanks, @ricky_davis_fan_21 . It's a shanda, but such is life.
  19. I walked in this morning and was surprised to see this change. City Smoke was usually always busy. I don't see how this change was necessary. There are several places similar to Cicchetti's in the area. Not so much with City Smoke. Odd decision and seems very "basic", as the kids said in 2017.
  20. Question: If you're going to put glass in anyway, how is it an additional cost to order x amount of one color and x amount of a second color? Was there some sort of structural piece I'm not seeing in the old design that accented the different tones?
  21. Thanks for posting this. I was just thinking about how I believe the majority of vocal posters here are college educated, middle to upper middle class white males (I, personally, have noticed only a small handful of variation). This also tends to be who is in charge of the development in this city. Different types of people value different things, though. I believe this variation in culture and perspectives is what really makes a city interesting. Tall, shiny buildings are great, but so are little Salvadorian panaderías, unfabulous gay bars, and black owned barber shops. If we don't leave room for these places and the types of people who patron them, we paint ourselves into a very boring, homogeneous corner. Basically, just because we all think something is a great idea here - and even in the board rooms and at the drawing tables, doesn't mean it's really what's best for the city at large or its growth as a livable place for all people.
  22. So....what exactly is that thing on top of Duke Energy Center? I have more ignorant questions that I should know the answer to, but let's start slow.
  23. Noticed the first retail sign up on the way home today. I'm interested to see what else will take the additional spots. https://swirlclt.com
