  1. That's why it was funny! Get some sleep and laugh at it tomorrow.
  2. My petty monster says "NO.... CRUSH RALEIGH", but yeah, good for them or whatever.
  3. I'm sorry, I only pay attention to the big, shiny (or beige) things. Why is Google fiber dead?
  4. I have already rehearsed my answers for when I run for office: "Heck yeah, I did it. $hit was fun, too. Next question." Lack of character runs all the way up the ladder, these days. "Grab 'em by the ......" The entire government needs an intervention.
  5. The longer I stare at that yellow, the more I wish to was yellow. I guess I'm just saucy like that.
  6. I came here to say the same thing. I decided to go to Downtown Greenville after three eclipse to see what all the buzz was about. That place is incredibly charming. I had to sit down for a minute and pray about my envy issues. I left after glancing at the water because I decided that I'm going to go back and have a nice little mini-vacation for some real exploring. I'm still a little mad about it.....
  7. I don't get it either - especially from a group who frequently laments the destruction of our history. While it may not be "authentic" there is no harm in adding back pieces of what we took away. A nice mix of modern, classical, etc. is preferable in my opinion. This is not Dubai. We have a history, we have roots, and it's OK to go back and find them.
  8. I like his color scheme more than the design - it seems very disconnected from the rest - but I still like it. The segment that young woman is working on though, is by far my favorite.
  9. Some of those businesses have their own parking. Otherwise, up and down the street or at the parking lot belonging to that big shopping center (sorry, the name isn't coming to me).
  10. Great article! I hope the message eventually sinks in.... I'm assuming that was you. It had the tone of a UPer.
  11. Just as I said, I would like to see more local shops in the area. The staggering rents are a bit much for newer, smaller operations. It would be great to give local businesses a shot for a year or two. It would make for a more interesting uptown & perhaps even add a tiny boost in tourism. That Jimmy John's by Romare Bearden park could be selling someone's amazing family recipes unique to Charlotte. A trendy art gallery/studio would make a great place to stop while walking back from the delicious yet generic Panera. In my opinion, an increase in local flavor would mitigate some of the sterility from lack of historical businesses & architecture. As long as the businesses can maintain some sort of predetermined success rate, I see it as a win for everybody.
  12. Good to know. I saw this the other day & had no idea what I was looking at. Glad to see a smaller, local shop get the opportunity to open uptown. I would like to see more local businesses be given rent breaks for at least a set time. That is the flavor that our center city is missing.
  13. We still have the same attitude. Buildings don't just automatically become old and beautiful or full of character. First they have to be 30 or 40 years old and awkwardly out of style for a while. We need to learn how to leave things alone for a while or just give a little face lift. I know I'm in the minority, though. For example, I think Memorial Stadium is beautiful. All that stone! But I realize it's inconvenient to progress (which I'm all about - just not the extreme cost we pay here).
  14. That honor still goes to Central Avenue. Japanese/Thai/Korean are all different styles of cuisines from completely different countries. Two or three of each can't hurt. 5,000 pizza restaurants is over saturation, but that is still very welcome in my book.
  15. I have no idea as the whole thing is just conceptual at this point, but given the parking disaster they created in Whitehall (which many people have publicly vented about), they may be a little more cognizant of what they're doing this time around.
  16. I think TopGolf is perfect for that area. If that entertainment district is done right, the proposed businesses along with TopGolf (which has been a HUGE draw in southwest Charlotte) will be remarkable for the area. All those families, people who want to socialize but find bars unacceptable, and underage college students need something to do. While it may not be hip or exciting to the rest of us, I'm hoping this happens & I expect it to really wake that area up.
  17. Wow. I hardly ever have an opinion about anything but this is just not attractive to me at all. It reminds me of something that needs to be at the beach.
  18. This would be my favorite shot if it weren't for big red standing in the picure. Bless his heart. I'm sure he's a very nice man, he just needs to move a little to the right.
  19. What is that supposed to be with the no windows there? Are those cond's with no windows back there or something?
  20. Oh my word!!! I have had to give up on the news. I was getting a little paranoid and feeling rather defeated for a whole there. On the other hand, when I was downtown the week before the 4th traffic was HORRIBLE at 1 in the morning and while we sat in traffic waiting we saw this very large group of guys just run up and beat the ever lovin' snot out of this one dude standing there by himself. Granted his motions seemed to welcome the attack, but come on. That was so scary to see. On our way out of downtown that same guy that got his butt whooped was still standing there all bloody but acting like nothing happened. It was really bizarre. Oh...did anyone see (dont remember what channel it was) where the lady was about to report on the trouble the black teens were causing when this young, drunk white guy ran up on the camera and said "Y'all need to get the **** out of here"? That plus the look on her face was priceless.
