  1. My wife preemptively calls next month's music festival the "Loving Life Shooting". Asks her coworkers, "who's going to the Loving Life shooting in May?" It's actually a shame because the lineup is great and we would be going if it weren't uptown. Seems like every major uptown event has had a shooting recently and my wife was not at all willing to chance it. Even worse, every single friend I've asked has said the same thing "We would go if it wasn't uptown. Too many shootings. Too unsafe" Apologies for the topic digression
  2. @kermit the developer has got to be sh!tting bricks at this point. right?!
  3. Good thing NC outlawed design review boards otherwise the developers would have been unnecessarily financially burdened by having to do more than a 300' black wall. Think of the developers!
  4. where is the hierarchy to this plan? Looks like a garbled mess
  5. thats a little too close for comfort with that huge patio right there
  6. would be curious to know how my fellow UPers feel about this. Can we do an emoji reaction poll? Thanks emoji = support public funding sad emoji = against public funding
  7. My dog loves running back and forth through the pipe as my wife and I stand on either end calling his name over and over. Great fun for us and the pooch
  8. Their other "restaurant concept" STIR is the exact same way. Menu is all over the place with no direction and certainly no quality. I swear almost everything comes out of a freezer. If STIR wasn't in their great location with the awesome outdoor space it too would be dead. Also, their drinks are complete a$$, and that's like their whole thing
  9. Would you mind elaborating on this? I'm not familiar with the story but it sounds interesting and I love that building
  10. haven't listened to the podcast but damn, that first quote makes him sound like a moron...among other choice adjectives that i'll refrain from using scared money don't make money, foo'
  11. The Monarch Market folks did a great job making it look exactly like the renderings. It took me a second to figure out if it was a real photo or marketing rendering
  12. thats a nice looking building, especially considering the current state of this once-forgotten corner
  13. South end business park isn't really adjacent to Wilmore though. could he be talking about something else? Anyone know anything?
  14. i know at least one oak fell on the building causing some significant damage
  15. What's going on in Wilmore? There's a disproportionate number of homes sitting for sale. Has the encroaching noisy nightlife or this planned rail facility turned off potential buyers? It seems like something has changed recently
  16. "vibe dining" sounds atrocious but I'm sure the legion of charlotte "influencers" and "IG models" who never made it to LA or NYC will love it
  17. I'm surprised y'all like this tower. I think this tower would be the ugliest of the LU bunch and it aint close. Its just so elementary and a lazy mashing of BOAT and Honeywell with nothing creative or thoughtful to its design. To each their own, though
  18. do we hate the DFA building? Because I LOVE that building. Its one of the best looking buildings in the city bar none
  19. 48 story office?! In THIS economy!? That'd be incredible if true
  20. People don't have to see someone violently murdered in front of them to feel unsafe and not want to go into uptown anymore. You think those hundreds of parents running with their kids in their arms during the July 4 chaos are telling themselves "well violent crime is akshully down this year! Lets go to a Knights game this week!" ? Cuz sad to say, they ain't ever coming back and I can't blame them. Perception is reality.
  21. I've been seeing a good amount of instagram and facebook posts about the violence and chaos at the park and under each post is a staggering amount of comments from people saying its their last time doing anything uptown when they can go to South Park or Southend and feel much safer. You can say "this is happening everywhere" but that won't really matter when the entirety of uptown looks like the present-day Epicenter. Sure, the banks will never leave uptown but there are plenty of other businesses that I'm sure will be looking elsewhere when their lease is up.
  22. I need to know how they got brick up to the parapet on that wood framed camden project. anyone have an idea?
  23. Regardless if the stadium moves to pipe and foundry land or not, whatever is eventually built on the portion south of 277 will have almost no connection to southend/gold district because of this rail facility. Can't help but think this is a really poor move. The southern portion of P&F land will be an island bound by interstates and an impenetrable rail facility. On top of that, the facilities are going to be SO unattractive and a permanent scar on this area that is seeing so much growth and still has so much potential. If they actually incorporated some architecture into the facilities I could possibly stomach it. But you know they're going to build the cheapest buildings possible with the cheapest exterior finishes. What an absolute shame edited for clarity
  24. @CTigerCouldn't agree more. Gone are the days of making a spontaneous decision to grab a beer while out walking the dog with the wife. Wonder if they'll have a hostess who seats people
