Yea I'm sure the retail tenants will come flooding to fill the empty spaces once LH announces their 300 unit tower--thats like 500 potential customers!! All I can see is dollar signs -

how fitting -
When you think it can't get any worse it does--the patio is now an enclosed cage under the footprint of the billboard. Who's idea was this? The intern?
-
that patio is going to be completely unusable due to the roar of cars. How has no one involved in this project realized that? Also the billboard thing is very weird

@InSouthPark All good points and I certainly agree that it would make more sense for Simon to operate a luxury shopping center over LH. But LH is also doing their 10 story office tower at the end of the strip so not sure how that factors in. Maybe Johnny did/will sell the center to Simon with the stipulation that he gets to build his tower as he wishes. Look forward to seeing what happens though
-
If the people who also own Highland Park Village hadn't just bought a huge stake in PP I would think that's plausible. But from what I've heard the HPV people have big plans for the center. I think there's a joke to be made about PP+HPV...

Elizabeth Projects (7th St, Elizabeth Ave, etc)

"Scootch over poor minorities! Rich whites moving in and we're building BIG--nevermind the scale of your tiny little poor people house!" now how do i make the font blue? -

Oh yea everyone will be clamoring for this interesting juxtaposition in just a few short decades!! Whoever designed this should be embarrassed. These monstrosities are all over Belmont and they're ruining the the neighborhood. I support Elizabeth becoming a HD lets play a game called "Fort Mill Tract Home or Historic Charlotte Neighborhood" Round One: any guesses?? -
Last line from the axios article: Benches and paint! And an Instagram museum! Sorry to be a pessimist but this place is going to be dead on arrival.
-
@wilmoretotally agree. It's a shame that Belmont didn't go for HD designation. It's being littered with some of the worst gray-box mcmansions I've ever seen. Wilmore residents should be very thankful
-
unpopular opinion: its a bummer that these arent in the historic district. While the HDC can seem overbearing at times they ensure a quality project every time and ultimately what they do is for the greater good of the neighborhood. Without HDC purview a developer could easily come in and build some fiber cement garbage. The no-parking aspect is sure to rile up Wilmore residents, too
-
I would mourn the loss of the Stab and Go Stop and Go. Whatever replaces it better have retail with another convenience store
-
You're telling me it wasn't an after-thought? I always figured the exposed stairs were a result of the building being fully designed and at the last minute they realized they needed another stair so instead of properly redesigning they just threw it on the exterior of the building. Sheesh.....Maybe they have low fees and that's how they get work?
-
Woof. This is shamefully bad. Like all around terrible with no redeeming qualities. I could go on for days

https://sports.yahoo.com/savi-provisions-open-second-store-091517065.html missed this article when it was published back in February, but an upscale market, like a mini Whole Foods, is coming to the neighborhood at 1124 S Mint. I'm guessing they'll be doing a hefty renovation to the building and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Love that they're saving another 1 story brick building in the neighborhood. The Gold District is BOOMING website: https://www.saviprovisions.com/ 1124 S Mint:

Some action at the Wilmore School site. The developer presented to the HDC in a non-binding "workshop" yesterday. It think this would be incredible for this corner and the historic school.
-
how they ever thought they could open 4 new restaurant concepts at once is beyond me. they should be thankful they didnt sink that amount of money into getting them open

They did an incredible job with retail at Ally and it shows with, what, 100% retail occupancy? Meanwhile directly across the street LU sits motionless and dead with....0% retail occupancy? (aside from the coffee shop and bank branch inside the tower of course). I simply can't understand how Lincoln Harris finds that acceptable. And lets not kid ourselves, retail tenants aren't waiting for the full buildout of LU to finish like some posters have suggested. They're simply unattractive retail spaces that no one wants. Its a crying shame how they blew that amazing opportunity to activate two hugely important city blocks. Why are WE okay with that? We should be making more of a fuss about it I think

I assume that Camden project is 5 floors of wood over 2 floors of concrete podium at its tallest point. If so, that's some awfully tall brick for wood construction. Sure hope they're not ripping that brick off in <5 years due to water intrusion
-
have we heard anymore about the Phillips Place renovation/tower? Saw construction fencing around the theater with an RCI Demolition banner last time I drove by
-
MJ in the tail number, that's pretty cool. Coincidence or...?
-
@ClassicColtrane I remember reading that the people who own Highland park village bought a (majority?) stake in Phillips Place with plans to turn it into Charlotte's version of HPV. They've got some deep pockets so we shall see

The corner of mint and summit is the perfect location for a museum honoring Charlotte's gold mining history. It almost makes too much sense being the actual location of the Rudisill mine and an empty lot that is limited on height by HDC restrictions making it unappealing to real estate developers. Its a shame that the city will no make no effort capitalize on something that makes us so unique
