  2. 811 E. Washington Street looks to be finally moving forward with development. Foundation work being done. The most updated article I can find on this property is this one. Anyone know if that is still what’s being built there?
  3. I believe brightline is going to follow an existing rail line for that first segment of the sunshine corridor, which includes an at grade crossing at boggy creek road. Thankfully orange Ave has an over pass.
  4. Thanks to Sunrail, the Orlando area has seen improvement with RR crossing safety. When sunrail started service 10 years ago you would hear about incidents a lot more often. Over the years there have been a number of safety features added to busier crossings and various ad campaigns promoting train safety throughout the metro. Of course there will always be people who are clueless so the ultimate solution is to prioritize getting all major crossings elevated. Does anyone know if the segment of the sunshine corridor between the airport and Taft will be elevated? Since that section will be using existing tracks.
  5. It seems they’ve been working on the interior build out and amenity deck. Only thing really missing as far as exterior is ground level landscaping which will probably be anytime now.

  7. Not sure if anyone has posted this yet somewhere else, but I consider it to be on the cusp of the attractions area. Global investment firm plans high-density mixed-use project at office park site near Epic Universe The plans include up to 10 waivers in regards to building heights, distance separating buildings and the setback distances from main artery roads. Requesting apartment heights up to 7 stories and hotel/commercial up to 12 stories or 100 ft. Their goal is to achieve a true urban fabric that can be easily accessed from surrounding areas. Plans also include integration with the future extension of the shingle creek trail. If this actually happens it would be interesting to see how this section of John young parkway develops with the increased traffic from epic universe and the sunshine corridor along the southern end of the property. It could be an ideal location for a sun-rail stop.

  9. To my understanding they would expand the upper decks by adding another section to the north end of the stadium along with other amenities in the corners of the upper deck level. Meanwhile refurbish the current upper deck concrete structures and add a flimsy canopy. I have to say, I can’t justify $800 million of our tourist tax funds being spent on this project at this current moment in time. Any major overhaul of this stadium can wait at least another decade or so, perhaps when the lower bowl would be due for legitimate upgrades. The stadium was gutted entirely from below the upper deck and re built to modern standards in 2015. It would make more sense to revisit this idea in the future with a larger budget and innovative designs, similar to what Jacksonville is doing. Maybe even a new stadium altogether in a different location and redevelop that plot of land. Either way we need something unique and distinguished that could actually make us competitive with other venues worldwide. Otherwise, minor updates and upgrades overtime will suffice. I’m no expert but I would assume the price of replacing those aluminum benches with comfortable seats and minor aesthetic upgrades would cost no more than a few million dollars. This project’s current renderings are a joke. $800 million (which will probably end up costing close to a billion upon completion) to look boxy and lacking compared to most major stadiums in the US. Like others have stated, we don’t even have an NFL team in Orlando and we need to stop pretending like we will ever get one. That won’t happen on Tampas watch. Let’s focus on where we do have potential. This round of tourist funds can be used more strategically somewhere else.
