  1. The games consistently have about 6k to 8k empty seats. The team seems to be pretty far away from filling the remaining seats as most of the seats are expensive club seats.
  2. I agree, it really does the original façade a disservice.
  3. why would we complain instead of just continuing to push for better parks? Even in the good central parts of the city your are still often far from a park. Charlotte doesn't have a lot of parks where its possible to just stroll around and enjoy a picnic, a lot of the parks are just straight up ball fields. It also doesn't help us that the construction of greenways are moving at a snails pace. It shouldn't be this hard for a city of our size to build miles and miles of greenways. It seems like we've only added a mile or two a year.
  4. This is essentially just shrugging and kicking the can down the line. Current conditions will never change if this is our attitude towards every development. People on here always say in the future we may be able to not have giant parking garages but our city currently does nothing to set up that future. We all know city council doesn't seem to have any urgency when it comes to transit, so why not build our present to discourage cars in order to create the urgency for transit. Waiting two decades for a singe light rail line and modest bus upgrades is not the answer. Building this giant podium garage structures is only setting up the future for car dependency even when of if we have increased and more robust transit.
  5. Its not a long walk, its just not a great walking experience. It also doesn't help that trains don't run on time usually do you could easily miss the train and have to wait an extra 20mins.
  6. That's a big "IF" we design them well. So far hoping for good design doesn't get us much of anything for pedestrians as the city doesn't seem to require much. Look at optimist hall, they had grand opportunity to interact with the blue line and create a pedestrian mecca. Instead we got a cool concept that's basically surrounded by cars.
  7. Its a real bummer to see these sites near the Blue Line be built with surface parking lots. Its such a bad use of land and In my eyes shows a lack a creativity.
  8. Parkwood has got to be the laziest excuse of a bike lane project in all of charlotte, they couldn't even add plastic bollards, but tiny spherical bumps on the ground. The design does absolutely nothing for the safety of bikers, the lanes now just serve as a gutter for broken glass and debris. I would advise you not to ride your bike in these lanes as the chances of you getting a flat are high. I for one am tired of the city half-assing these bike lane projects, with the amount of times they have to replace the plastic that cars hit you would think it would be more cost effective to just use concrete/jersey barriers in the first place.
  9. If the future of the Gold line is in the hands of CDOT can city council not get involved and direct CDOT to make changes? Where has their leadership been on this project? Or do I completely not understand how CDOT works?
  10. The exact same thing happened at the previous Charlotte FC and hornets game so its definitely not a one off event.
  11. I love transit, but unless CATS starts taking the gold line serious they need to just stop wasting resources on the line. For the third time I have waited for a train at mint street, only to give up and walk the whole way to plaza without once getting passed by a train. There is absolutely no excuses at this point. CATS needs to start treating the gold line as actual transit and not a toy. Priority Signaling needs to be implemented at every intersection. Tracks through uptown should be gold line only where is live tracking?? and for the love of God can operators not drive like we are in a vehicle made out of glass? Personally I wont take the gold line ever again until at least something is done to either increase frequency or speed up the trip.
  12. They really need to make the bike lane on the bridge fully separated by a jersey barrier, it would not take them that much effort or money. I refuse to bike in those lanes and just take the car lane because its full of so much debris.
  13. are they painted lanes or real separated lanes?
  14. The Charlotte observer stated they were going to widen all the surrounding streets as well. Hope that means for bike lanes and wider sidewalks not more car lanes.
  15. uptown had the hornets and Charlotte FC this past weekend and still didn't increase frequency at all. Trains were beyond packed and some had to wait for two or three trains to come by to get on. I'm sure almost everyone that got on the train or attempted to get on left with a bad taste in their mouths, its not a good look.
  16. Sure it can help, but its the easy way out. Not to mention that its crazy that we allow cars to park for free on streets and in turn the community gets nothing back. On street parking: creates a chaotic environment for pedestrians and residential areas. More chances of car accidents (cars can't see around corners or don't see cars pulling out). reduces pedestrian line of sights at crossings biking along streets with on street parking is extremely dangerous. encourages more driving as cars often have to circle to find spots takes away space that could be used for bike lanes, bus stops, bus lanes, green space or wider sidewalks (all of which would have a greater affect of slowing cars down and make our communities more enjoyable for people) doesn't financially benefit the city at all Has very limited affect on bringing money to local businesses
  17. Yes I get that. Though it has negative affects on pedestrian usage of the street and sidewalks. I would think a community garage on the edge of the neighborhood would serve the area better than have people constantly driving around trying to find limited parking. Half the time the bus can't even make it down the street because cars are parked terribly.
  18. Minor complaint on the commonwealth project, but with the parking garage being built why do they need to incorporate 34 on street parking spots? Why not provide more space for pedestrians and further narrow the street so cars drive slower? Living in Plaza I sometimes feel like the neighborhood is for cars and not people. This is especially true along commonwealth Ave, a street that I wish the city could reimagine, the weekends tend to be backed up cars just circling around for hours.
  19. Seems like there is a new contingent of candidates at the city and county level that don't believe light rail is or should be the future. It worries me that many "urbanists" are getting behind the idea that we should only invest in busses. Busses are important and will be even more important when we have a wider light rail network. Seems like people just don't want to ruffle feathers with any tax increases.
  20. Unfortunately the little house to the right has since been demolished and the castles twin brother is now going up. It makes me so upset when I see this, affordability just flying right out the window. Perfectly good homes destroyed for some rich persons ego. I would be completely fine with demolishing these homes if a multi-unit building was built in its place.
  21. Its insane that we have so many restrictions on everything that's more than 1 unit. Meanwhile you can build these castles that tower over neighbors, but if these housed more than one unit it would somehow equal bad.
  22. Why should North Meck towns get treated as equal to Charlotte when their population accounts for less than 10% of Charlottes? North Meck Towns would not be what they are today without Charlotte. Saying they should they should be equal is crazy, a population of 100k people should not be able to hold up the rest of the county (million plus people) because they aren't getting their way.
  23. I think that plan is more of wishful thinking by the city. Even in newer developments future ROW hasn't been dedicated for that wide of a road. As of now south boulevard hasn't even been added to or discussed for improvements to the MTP or CTP plans, which looks out to 2045.
  24. What are you talking about, NCDOT has no plans or funding on any long range plan for South Boulevard. South Boulevard will never be widened, its not even physically possible anymore.
  25. Wish we could avoid adding anymore curb cuts to south blvd, This just creates more of a headache for traffic and pedestrians. It would be ideal to keep all the traffic flow onto E kingston, maybe even a light there though I know NCDOT would never go for that.
