  1. This is awesome news vdogg, thank you for keeping up with it. I'm not terribly surprised about the local news outlets not following this story.
  2. I can see your point but people that live on the 11th-30th floor still have to work, eat, get groceries and socialize. Barcelona also has a population density that's higher than Mexico City and NYC combined so it's streets are going to be crazy busy. I think with that kind of density it wouldn't matter the height of the buildings. Keep in mind, I live in the great suburban crystal city of VB. My street level activity and retail consists of congested 4-6 lane secondary roads and strip malls.
  3. I have never heard such rubbish. I would love to see the "study" that shows this. Taller buildings = more people per block = more people in general at the street level. Residents in NYC don't just jump from rooftop to rooftop to get around and shop, eat and socialize.
  4. The Tide clearly has a station in this building. Also, the renderings look like they have change from a Lego looking concept to a glass structure.
  5. I'm with you vdogg, I think you may be right. If that's the case then there must be a developer interested in this piece of land for a project of this size. It's very close to Pamuncky Casino site. Maybe this was the first concept and location prior to Harbor Park location. Looks kinda similar with one large tower and two smaller side by side towers....just a thought.
  6. That is going to be a beautiful addition to the medical Center. Great find!!
  7. Lazy journalism...simply put. Typical Va. Pilot
  8. Shakman, sounds like they need to build a tower just for you...the "Impatient Tower".
  9. That's great, I look forward to it.
  10. Personally, I don't think they should limit the height to any building in that district. Having an urban district with varying building heights makes it look "less planned out". There's nothing wrong with having a 4 story unit next to a 15+ story building. If there is demand and you have developer with interest, let them build. Streamline/shorten the approval process of structures and get out of the way of progress.
  11. That's awesome, thank you! I would love for someone from that area to keep us all updated on all of the projects and great things happening. I'm sorta from that area so it truly is interesting to see it's progress and growth.
  12. Looks like they just added some lipstick...really cheap lipstick. Oh and urbanvb, I'm sure it will be approved. Why not eliminate some of the parking and add some gathering spaces? Make it connect to the Town Center just not in name alone. Force people to park in one of the many free garages and heaven forbid interact with another human.
  13. Margaret Mead never met the citizens of the crystal city of VB. Honestly, I could see Norfolk and Portsmouth merging looong before any others.
  14. Where'd everyone go from this forum? I enjoy reading/seeing all the great things going on in the Roanoke metro.
  15. Was wondering what happened to all the Roanoke members? No activity in a very long time. I love seeing how things are progressing in other parts of the state and this area is a vital part of the commonwealth.
  16. Haha, great find...99% never gonna happen in our life times. If it every did though it should be called "Norfolk"...period. Though everyone in the crystal city of Va. Beach would have a kittens.
  17. It's because these cities let them. This crap looks like everything else in VB and Ches....on a prime piece of waterfront. Same with the stuff they are allowing up in Oceanview. I'm not saying everything has to be super urban and brick but push these developers to be more creative with their designs. Don't be afraid to say "No"...make them think outside of the standard suburban condo complex.
  18. Normally they use the 13th for the mechanical floor.
  19. Dover Downs is a very hot spot in my circle of friends, family and coworkers. That is the ONLY reason they go up there. Dover Downs sends out the "free room" flyers and they keep that place jumpin.
  20. …..oh good let's have a study. Profits Vegas = $6.2B Atlantic City = $3B Chicago = $2.2B Detroit = $1.4B Connecticut = $1.2B Philly = $1.1B St. Louis = $1.1B Gulf Cost Miss. = $1.0B Study Complete - Thank you Google
  21. That would be pretty cool but would have to be very tall and expensive. If anything a private Uber type boat taxi service connecting the two would be the least expensive option. Jello shooters and fireball shots for the ride over between the two.
  22. Was this drawn by an eight year old? I'm not buying the story at all. It seems like some clever marketing to get in a paper. Underground beer pipes to his fitness center tower....c'mon man.
  23. What do you think about something like this? City Creek Center in Salt Lake City has all the components that we have all been talking about. It was built to look like this meaning this isn't a renovated 90's mall but could be used as a model for what could be in DT Norfolk.
