  1. With all these project proposals in less than a month I'm hoping for an arena too!!!! Come on!!!
  2. Mass transit will have moved on to "smart train" technology by the time they decide to expand. No tracks will be needed with this type of light rail.
  3. I know it's in the early stages but I pray that they change the hotel design. Looks like a watch tower for a maximum security prison.
  4. That quote came from the mayor during the live press conference that Wavy streamed live. He said it towards the end of it.
  5. I would like the planned condos from the casino proposal better on this site. Unfortunately the casino looks like it's really far down the road...if it even happens.
  6. Sweet! I have zero reason to go to either of those cities but it's a sign of progress.
  7. "Views of the ocean in Portsmouth. Twice as tall as anything in Portsmouth."
  8. https://southsidedaily.com/local-news/2019/01/14/casino-proposal-prompts-tribes-to-clash-over-ancestral-lands/ Oh here we go with a turf war. I see this doing nothing more than stalling the development for years or even keeping it from ever happening.
  9. I'm all for it, if it's done right. This is great news. It seems like laws makers are on board with it too. Could be the shot in the arm this area needs!!
  10. You're correct, everything should be put on the table. I think it would be cool to chop it up into a town center type complex. The street grid would be narrow pedestrian/bike only with lower level store fronts with offices, housing and open air kiosk type restaurants on upper floors. Anyway, just a "If I ruled the World idea"
  11. I think it's time for MacArthur to be reinvented before we have an empty building.
  12. Norva757, There's an article attached from Inside Business so you don't to speculate.
  13. Haha, or they would approve a flagship Onelife Fitness bookended by a Jackson Hewitt and Payless Shoes. Then call it a "mix use" urban center.
  14. I agree with you 100% vdogg. This is a signature tower block, period!
  15. Correct, it also looks as if there is a open air deck on the top floor of the "boat" structure where gamblers can gather.
  16. Not sure if you are truly offended by my comment, I'm sorry if you were. I honestly, never knew these tribe members lived here.
  17. I found the part about "where their people live" funny....like in a LMAO type of way. I have lived in HR since 1991 and I have never met or known of any person that claimed to be from this tribe or anything of the sort. Now, if this was a Filipino casino and you said that....I would have been like, yep I can see that.
  18. I can't find the architect either. I love the design...if this goes forward the city should just sit back and let this roll out with what they proposed. On the flip side they should also hold them to this design and don't let them cheapen it. The twin buildings in the back look to be roughly 20.
  19. "Panelist Brooks Rainwater with the National League of Cities advocacy group suggested the city, if it owns the property in the future, should look to smaller businesses to fill the space." They are saying pretty much what we have been saying. Side note: That has to be one of the coolest names I've seen in a while.
  20. It's a prime piece of real estate, I highly doubt it would be torn down. Also, I doubt anyone will convert it to apartments. Norfolk better get it's butt in gear to help market this building to new businesses. Do whatever they have to help stop the bleeding this has caused.
  21. The city must exploit anything and everything they can to lure these types of revenue generators. Add additional flights into ORF for the cruise passengers coming to town. We don't need every company relocating DT to be a F500...we just need businesses, period. More Americans work for small businesses than large ones by a long shot.

Wow! That would have made for an amazing waterside/warehouse district. That wasn't the thought process back then though. Looking at all the scrubbing they did of beautiful buildings I truly do think DT has really come a long way. Sure, we can all agree that it should have been done differently. I'm just happy that it bounced back after all that destruction from the 60's.

Geez...looks like Germany during the war. Would have been pretty cool to still have the mid-rise buildings over there near Harbor Park.
  24. Looks like all Tru hotels look like that.
