  1. Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I don’t recall seeing it. These are the renders for 10th and Fatherland. It’s on the agenda for March 15th Historic Zoning Commission meeting. 10th & Fatherland Historic Submittal NA presentation 022623.pdf
  2. There’s probably some of that, but it was really only closed for one day (to disconnect the electrical). I’ve been going there a long time and I’ve noticed there are people (that I used to know) who know longer go. Then, there were a few New Years resolutioners….but a lot of them have already dropped off. It’s hard to say, it’s all just perspective on my part. The other part that is noticeable is that the garage is sometimes half empty. That would never have happened before, even with that extra lot in the back that is now gone. My guess is that a lot of people went to other Ys with a pool, basketball court, sauna, steam…etc.
  3. It’s really strange making that right turn off of Church and no building is there….but it looks like that view won’t last long. It’s amazing how many people have left once all of this construction got started. Some days it’s almost like having your own personal (very nice) gym.
  4. I’m still a member of the downtown Y. The older portion housed the locker rooms, basketball gym, racquetball courts, spin studio, pools. They completely blocked off the old portion before demo. They were closed one day while they did the electrical disconnect. They relocated the spin studio, day care and temp locker rooms to the new area. I have to say that the temporary locker rooms are a joke. One small room with 6 showers and ten lockers for the men. I got so sick of standing in water to change out of my work clothes I now use one of the private restrooms to change. I will say, it’s less crowded now. Which is good because the only parking is the garage now. There are several images on the wall and it looks like it will be nice. I’ll try to take pictures and post them. The next closest Ys are East and Green Hills.
  5. As of today, the old section of the Y is no longer accessible to members and neither is the back parking lot. Demolition will speed along now, I suppose. I typically go on Thursdays, hopefully I’ll have a better feel if I can make this work or find another gym after today.
  6. It’s the back overflow parking lot for the downtown Y. There’s a back entrance in the basement. This is the older section of the Y that’s going to come down for the new tower. The elevated road to the right is Church.
  7. Thanks for posting this. This does answer a few of my questions. I didn’t realize the elevators were in the new section and wouldn’t be taken out. I wondered how that would work.
  8. They’ve put up some signs in the Y that say they are going to start relocating some spaces soon. The older section has had several portable AC units in it the last few weeks…so I guess things are about to start. I’m kind of dreading it….its going to be a mess for a while. I’m sure it will be nice when it’s done. Has anyone seen any floor diagrams for the new layout?
  9. I’m not here to get into any type of discussion or debate on whether it’s better to build single family homes or multi family apartments on city lots. But, this caught my eye because I live in that house right next to the apartment building in this picture. I think about the fact that when we bought this house in 2008 the rent on these 800 sq ft apartments was $550. It’s now $2000/mo….with coin laundry in the basement. They are always rented though, because people move to Nashville and want this sort of apartment and there are few of them. So, supply and demand. When we first bought this house most of the people that lived in the apartments had lived there for years. When the old man died that owned them, his kids sold it to a huge company. They did a little sprucing and jacked the rent up. Now, it’s a revolving door of tenants from places like Chicago, Denver, Ohio….etc. I used to know the people that lived in them and they looked out for us. I remember one neighbor calling me if he saw anything out of the ordinary while I was at work. Now, most people next door barely acknowledge you if see them out front. I guess it doesn’t matter….but it just kind of struck me as odd seeing this picture and thinking about how much has changed since 2008. As I said….my post really has nothing to do with the debate on whether developers should be able to build multi family units on city lots. But, I don’t know that I would call these apartments affordable and I’m not sure I can honestly say it’s an advantage, for me, to have them next door. It IS a cool building though.
  10. Hmm...we owned 13 acres total (front parcel with the main building plus back parcel with the dorms). Did the article mention they only bought 7 acres? Now I’m a little hopeful again that they are only going to clear the back portion on Great Circle.
  11. I’m sure you are right. I’ve just been holding out hope, even though I knew it probably wouldn’t be the case. Thanks for checking the article.
  12. I worked at Watkins up until the very end and worked with Belmont for 2 months during the merger transition. I knew Chartwell was purchasing, but didn’t know their exact plans. I don’t have access to the NBJ account. Does it mention if they are going to mow all the existing buildings down? I’m hopeful they just mow the 2 dorm buildings down in the back and build back there. I’m going to be a little nauseous if they knock down the main building. We had done so much work on it.....but I guess that’s life.
  13. The steel framing in the first picture is a Starbucks. There will be a Chase bank branch in the parking lot as well.
  14. Correct....that one is not. But there are probably less than 10 IND students at Watkins. Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Art, Film, Photo, MFA...those are all through SACS and NASAD and are all in good standing. Watkins GRD program usually produces more ADDY awards than most other schools it competes with. So....Belmont is not completely coming up short. I just wanted to point out that this doesn't have anything to do with accreditation problems. CIDA wasn't renewed because it's another expense and not enough students to justify it. It costs the same and requires the same amount of work for Watkins to play in the same higher ed field as Vandy, Belmont, state schools...etc when it comes to accreditation. Calculate in low enrollment and you have a problem. Small private schools (art or not) are really struggling across the country.
  15. There are no accreditation concerns at Watkins, Watkins and Belmont are both accredited through SACS and Watkins is in good standing. Belmont is actually benefiting from Watkin's MFA in Visual Arts program. The problem with Watkins is low enrollment and lack of an endowment.
  16. I didn’t have power til today. I’m 2 streets off of Main. I woke up to thunder and lighting and got up to check the weather. Channel 2 said a tornado had touched down near TSU and was headed toward E Nashville. I went to the basement and the power/internet went out as soon as I got down there. It passed really quickly and I didn’t even realize it was a tornado. Came back up and my phone was dead...the tornado siren kept going off occasionally. I ended up falling asleep and didn’t realize how bad it was til the next morning when I went to my car to plug my phone in. I was very lucky. I walked up my street and the damage got worse the closer I got to 5 Points. Hope everyone is making it through ok.
  17. This may have been a discussion and I might have missed it. But, does anyone know if there is some pending plan for the Jim Reed property? I see lots of water/sewer permits on the permit website and was just curious if I missed something.
  18. https://epermits.nashville.gov/#/permit/3705368?page=2&searchText=3811 hillsboro pike&searchCode=ADDR&searchType=permit&orderBy=permitNumber ASC I think it's going to be a Chase Bank branch
  19. Rich McCoy is an architect and worked on that whole redevelopment of 11th and Fatherland (next to and across from the old Bill Martin’s Food Store...the condos with retail on the bottom).
  20. Here are the prints for the Apple store. It doesn't look as minimalist as other downtown stores and appears to have a usable roof. https://epermits.nashville.gov/download.aspx?id=272493
  21. Here are the plans for Hawkers, going in where the old Family Wash was. Seems like it's been slow going...but I've noticed activity in there lately. This at least gives you an idea of the layout. https://epermits.nashville.gov/download.aspx?id=267907
  22. Ahh...ok. When it referenced first floor...I assumed it was probably where H&M was.
