Nashville International Airport Development thread
NashvilleObserver replied to Lexy's topic in Nashville
My understanding was they were never going to build it with rails and platforms. It was going to be built so that platforms and rails will easily be added later once a light rail line is approved. -

What a beautiful design. This is going to be a great addition to WeHo!! I'm sure all these details will get sorted out, but from the renderings, it looks like the pool isn't separated in any way from the lawn. Seems odd to have people floating around in a pool in full view of everyone else.

Project Thread/New Construction/Photo du jour/Const. CAMs
NashvilleObserver replied to smeagolsfree's topic in Nashville
It's definitely and eyesore, but at least it's not as huge as the AT&T or Verizon buildings in Manhattan. The Verizon Tower recently had a little facelift. -
Y'all...... "Queen City" is a term for a city that is the largest in the state, but not the capital. Cincinnati and Charlotte are part of the largest metropolitan areas in their respective states. They are Queen Cities. This does not apply, however, to Clarksville.

The trees are a nonnative invasive species anyway. Can we replace them with some nice oak trees? Or how about the State Tree of Tennessee, the tulip poplar.

And isn't Golden Bear Gateway an entirely new road, built in the last two years or so? That side of the interstate exit used to dead-end into nothing, or so I remember.

Damn..... why didn't they go with the runner-up?? That plan looks phenomenal. I'm assuming it came down to cost.

This is pretty awesome. My hometown interstate exit (Hartmann Drive) was built partly in anticipation for the Providence Marketplace development, which eventually chose Mt. Juliet. It now lies as a vast empty road with ready-to-built lots flanking both sides from the exit to 'downtown.' I'm glad something big is finally happening in Lebanon, however this plan uses very little of the huge amount of available already-cleared space on Hartmann Drive. But, my favorite hidden beaver dam is in this area Other than that though, this plan covers mostly unused farmland and rocky fields. That's the eventual plan, according to what city leaders discussed with then-Senator Corker's office. It includes an interstate tunnel underneath the eventual runway expansion for the Lebanon Airport, where Amazon, Cracker Barrel, and LoJac keep corporate planes and hangars.

Pardon the flood of pictures, but I've been away in Shanghai. Now that I've caught up with all the UP Nashville developments (wow) I wanted to share a few skyscraper photos from Shanghai and Wuxi. No shortage of interesting buildings! Hardly any plain boxes, and holy **** do they know how to put great crowns on skyscrapers! While there, I of course had to check out the observation deck of the world's second tallest tower, the Shanghai Tower. There is a great mix of classic French architecture, revitalized British buildings, and modern towers. Parks are everywhere. I could go on and on about the amazing infrastructure, incredibly well-developed transit rail system (including high-speed maglev trains to the airport and surrounding cities, and pedestrian friendliness (elevated walkways over all the major intersections, sidewalks along major arteries separated from street traffic by hedges and trees); such an amazing city. Nashville would do well to plan for future development by modeling itself after this city.

Repurposed/revitalized historical buildings in Nashville
NashvilleObserver replied to markhollin's topic in Nashville
Sure is. When I was little, every time we drove over the bridge to Gallatin right by this house, we used to hang out the window trying to catch a glimpse of Reba- 2,037 replies

They are in East Nashville pretty regularly, so I have a feeling that's where they start and end their tour. Four guys block the intersection while the group rides through. I used to watch them come across the bridge into downtown from the Stahlman. The scary thing is, what happens when someone in a car, obeying the road rules, hits one of these guys and injures him. What is the rest of the gang going to do.... This sh*t is ridiculous.

I was in the area today for lunch. Everything is coming together nicely! Old-school downtown Franklin is going to remain cozy, but good development outside that is never a bad thing. I like it!

Margaritaville Hotel,12 stories, 145 ft., 215 rooms
NashvilleObserver replied to markhollin's topic in Nashville
Why isn't the lobby floor just a couple inches of sand?.... seems logical for Margaritaville. They already have a giant flip-flop and a beach towel.
