Nashville College & University Expansion
NashvilleObserver replied to smeagolsfree's topic in Nashville
This thing looks like a giant fortress from my office in 12th South. Especially when it's lit at night. -
I believe this pit is the site of the tower. It's going to be quite a tight fit during construction with that dorm tower just feet away. Is there any update about when the next round of demolitions is to take place?

Finally, some spectacular renderings of this portion! I love that big photo of Dolly. When do they expect to really start on the theater/hotel?

Repurposed/revitalized historical buildings in Nashville
NashvilleObserver replied to markhollin's topic in Nashville
There's still some debate as to whether or not it was actually built in 1865. And it's not quite "national park" level, but it's still pretty cool inside.- 2,037 replies

This facility was necessary for this location 50 years ago. not anymore. If they sold, and moved to a location farther from the CBD, they would be living comfortably for generations. It's grittiness is necessary?? I agree with @BnaBreaker in that there is nothing gritty or typically industrial about this structure. As for the plain white silos, there is nothing about those eyesores that sparks nostalgia or fond memories for me. This is a prominent, ideally located lot that should be redeveloped. The need for warehouses and processing plants in the Downtown area is GONE.

If a restaurant, convenience store, or other retail tries to function normally while being smack-dab in the middle of Broadway, they are going to have a hard time doing so. The hostesses at Merchants for example (which is not a bar, but a restaurant) are very used to drunk tourists stumbling in, demanding a table, and then belligerently complaining about the wait. Not to mention the amount of people who push in and try to crowd the bar. In order not to be affected by the goings-on of Broadway, whatever businesses occupy the area must fit in somehow, or try to keep those people out. I can only imagine that 5th and Broad's retail thoroughfare will be inundated with spillover from the bars and honky-tonks. I hope this won't be the case, but the area really needs to have a way to promote the fact it's not a continuation of the "party zone."

Little anecdote, but how many people say "kw-air-e" as opposed to "cory" when referring to a quarry. I've been told I say it wrong but everyone from Lebanon/Cookeville/Crossville that I've met says it in a way that rhymes with "airy." Am I the only one?

Don't use the word "foreigners" with a negative connotation in a civilised discussion. If you can't be "anti-soccer-stadium" without mentioning the nationality of the players, then you've already lost the argument (and proved your minuscule intelligence.) Alright everyone, how bout this stadium! Let's get back on topic. Before someone embarrasses themselves even more.
-
Those "craft-beer-drinkers" and "foreigners" are going to be reviving a dead part of the city and bringing lots of revenue with them. If the general reason for opposing the stadium is really filled with this kind of xenophobia, I will beam with pride as the flea-market folks walk their whiny butts over to their new-and-improved facilities, clearing the way for more exciting things for our city.

Not sure if this has been shared on any boards, but a $567,000 permit has been issued for structural work to begin on the tower across Church Street from the Amazon offices at Nashville Yards. This is the tower to the right of Church Street in the Image below. I think you mean 805 Lea, and the last I heard, it's being handled by Skanska, and they are expecting a 1st quarter start.

This is incredible. In 5 years, there will be a solid row of towers from 805 Lea all the way to the Amazon towers in Nashville Yards.

How much space does CSX own on either side of the actual train rails? Seems like it would be pretty simple to just develop enough on both sides of the track and have a large covering over the narrow track path. Aside from having no leeway to negotiate commuter lines with CSX, the tracks and trains are just an eyesore! I like this idea for covering the interstate, but I think covering the train tracks is better.
