  1. I like it. If you are going to watch a game, it is perfectly fine. If you are entertaining in a luxury box, it's great for that also. I see no reason why that stadium (with minor enhancements) can't work for another 15-20 years. Just my opinion.
  2. Same can be said for nearly every neighborhood in Charlotte.
  3. Not arguing that the Sportsplex is drawing fans (it isn't). I will say that Matthews is an increasing cool city (check out the main drag on Friday nights) and the actual complex isn't terrible (way better than Ramblewood). If people would go to games, it could become a happening thing. I believe they still run shuttles from downtown Matthews to the stadium before and after games. I don't think there is a better option until Memorial is renovated.
  4. As you know, this is an article written by a guy googling "best rooftop bars in__________", clicking on the establishment website and writing a paragraph. It's not like he visited all 50 states and did exhaustive research. I seriously doubt he had a hotel room from which to venture...
  5. If there was ever any question whether the extension would prompt future growth/redevelopment between Uptown and NODA, there isn't now. Ran through and around NODA, Belmont, Villa Heights, etc., during my marathon training Saturday and I'm impressed with the change just in the last 6 months. Not every project is great but even the existing streetscape in "downtown" NODA looks better. Thompkins Hall is coming along also. Perhaps redevelopment shouldn't be the focus of transit but that promise has definitely been kept.
  6. That park may not need activation. It's VERY active on weekends and reasonably active at other times. The trees are looking much better a couple years in also.

  8. Agreed and it's not. As I understand it, they have no idea how it will look since they will be partnering with developers on the station and surrounding blocks. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe RDF compared it to the airport based on the color scheme.
  9. I take full responsibility for his injury (less than 24 hours after my post). When will I learn?!?
  10. You're probably right. But people in SD hate LA and not in an envious way. Personally, I never understood it. They KNOW they live in paradise but something tells them they are small time.
  11. Sounds like a good way to get Charlotte companies to relocate to Fort Mill.
  12. Got it. Don't ever visit but I'm sure they are awful.
  13. I am unusually confident at the start of training camp...which unfortunately might mean 7-9. But seriously, talent wise they are better than '15 (but not at CB). Most pundits picking them third in league's best division but I think SB.
  14. I can't abide the prowar views on National Review but it isn't as you are describing, IMO. As a bonus, most of their writers (but not all) oppose Trump. Opinion Journal (WSJ) is even better (just talking layout) and it's pretty right wing.
  15. Um, have you ever been to LA and SD? Everyone I know who lives in LA prefers SD. I love LA but SD is nicer.
  16. Terrible piece and, yes, the comments are awful (and racist). I'm glad the author moved. This excerpt rings true, however: ...Several Charlotte residents took to Twitter to proclaim, “Our city will become a Mecca for hate mongers & tiki torch carrying racists” and “Do you we really want facist [sic], racist, abusers here?” In addition, some targeted Charlotte’s mayor Vi Lyles, an African-American female and Democrat, directly, stating “You’ll end up in this History books Mayor as the woman who allowed the New South to return to the bigoted Old South ways. The bombardment of bad press will make Charlotte a World Wide embarrassment.” First, conflating Charlotte with Charlottesville in this context is unhelpful. Trying to tie a political convention to a white supremacy rally is, at best, reflective of a severe lack of understanding of the historical role of political nominating conventions, and, at worst, a blatant attempt at fear-mongering by the left. I've seen some overwrought handwringing (and unwarranted criticism of Mayor Lyles) from these very pages. I wish the convention wasn't coming but I like the balance of "we'll take your money and oppose your candidate while exhibiting our Southern hospitality". It's obviously true that Charlotte aspires to be a major city and might be a little insecure. Nothing wrong with that. San Diego was the same way when I lived there (though I never understood why that city had an inferiority complex).
  17. So, not a fan? You are right (though I don't hate the bridge as a continuation of the rail trail, as atlrvr noted). As RDF pointed out previously, the loading dock limits what they can do here. It's definitely better, the question is are they putting lipstick on a white elephant (for $110 million) that could be better spent elsewhere?
  18. Good questions. I referenced trees because other cities mentioned in the article are using trees as a strategy to combat warming. It's oversimplified but there is a huge difference between walking Uptown in shade vs. sun. I won't opine on anything beyond that since I'm not educated enough to have anything meaningful to offer.
  19. I don't know about all that but our tree canopy should help with this: https://apnews.com/fe99da5da0d4455eaf2d96842b83b577/'Urban-island'-heat-tests-Phoenix,-other-large-cities
  20. It's "you're". Ed Murray was accused of molesting at least five minors. You are seriously a moron.
  21. Looks fine but I don't think I'd love the offset grid if I actually worked in the building. Talk about an obstructed view!
