  1. Definitely see the Furman influence, particularly on the windows. I'm surprised how often architects reuse design themes in their projects...
  2. Dimensions look so much better from this perspective.
  3. I hate him for who he is. Until I (early) voted for Dan McCready, I had never voted for a Democrat in my life. I'm a conservative evangelical and I am all in on opposing Trump. So that doesn't fit your narrative. I'm against him because of who he is in his personal life, his business life and his political life. He lies repeatedly, is corrupt, a philanderer, a racist, treats war heroes and their families disrespectfully, an assaulter of women, a divider in every way...I could go on. Again, before Trump I NEVER voted for a Democrat (and I was not fan of either Obama or Clinton). The support for this guy is a mystery to me.
  4. Is it possible to both detest her and feel some sympathy for her? She probably deserves her ruined life but that's a high price to pay. On the other hand, those women are the real victims and it's increasingly clear that POC have to deal with this blatant racism on a regular basis. As for the rally, don't get me started. Trump is a horrible person.
  5. Awesome game yesterday. I take back everything I said to my wife about Eric Washington following Baltimore's first drive. DJ Moore is going to be a star (and Curtis Samuel also). I hope we get Winston and not FitzMagic...
  6. I really want to know how long before the rail yard is relocated and Charlotte's Central Park is built. I know it's been discussed (see below) but is anyone seriously pursuing this? Queens Park A grass roots effort to convert a 220-acre rail yard along North Tryon into a 'Central Park' for the city of Charlotte. A proposal to develop this public space for recreation, education, cultural programs and civic events, Queens Park would serve as a bridge connecting the surrounding neighborhoods to Charlotte’s $1.2B light rail extension. Flywheel Group continues to promote interest and attract partnerships for this initiative.
  7. I (truly) feel for you. I know that there was a race through Elizabeth last Saturday. If I lived there, I'd be enthused until it became an inconvenience. I can tell you that, for past Charlotte marathons, folks in NODA and Myers Park really get into it. They have signs, music, drinks that are unique to the neighborhoods (and not supplied by the race organizers). I always thought that was really cool (and unexpected in MP) and it's a huge encouragement to the runners. Regarding other cities, I can't say for sure. I know that most marathons run through residential areas for significant portions of the races but I don't know how many other races are held annually. I suspect that the situations are similar and that one of the inconveniences of living so close to urban areas is dealing with frequent races. BTW, in 2016 the Elizabeth neighbors also were enthusiastically cheering on the runners. That was a tough part of the race for me due to injury and they definitely helped me get through it.
  8. Anyone doing the Charlotte Marathon on 11/03? I'm running the full and my wife is running the half. The best part was the two half marathon training runs at 6:00 am on recent Saturdays. Great way to see the city (running with a group in the dark is very cool). Anyone else going to be out there?
  9. I'd think you would be able to walk right from one to the other so the windows and sections of the walls will be removed (see the YMCA addition).

  11. Remember last year when all those bikes were everywhere on sidewalks? That didn't last long. I don't know if it's the weather, the city or the owners but I am seeing a lot fewer scooters these days also.
  12. I'm sure I'm the last to know that Sabor is opening in the old Cosmo's spot (signs are up): https://www.wccbcharlotte.com/2018/08/22/sabor-latin-street-grill-to-open-in-south-end-next-month/
  13. I bought $8 in lottery tickets for the first time in my life Friday. I felt like a total moron immediately. I will likely buy another ticket tomorrow. Rinse and repeat. https://slate.com/technology/2018/10/mega-millions-lottery-jackpot-ticket-odds.html This article makes me feel better...it's actually reasonable to buy a ticket now!
  14. WSJ just had an interview of Burt Ward explaining how they did this: https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-real-estate-helped-burt-ward-become-robin-1539701235
  15. How about when he was the lead blocker on that run play and the defender did everything he could to avoid him? If there is another QB in league history with Cam's skill set and toughness, I don't know who it is. To be clear, Wentz is probably a better QB (he was amazing yesterday until the last 3 plays, like Cam last week) but I get so much enjoyment out of watching Cam do what no one else can do (and still be a top 10 QB). BTW, Philly fans are awful. Comments on Philly.com were ripping Wentz and the entire organization. Growing up in a house in Philly where my dad referred to HOFer Mike Schmidt as "an overpaid bum", I can see that nothing has changed.
  16. I think you are forgetting Daniel Levine's project...
  17. Nothing on the actual building as of this minute.
  18. Makes more sense at UNCC and even though it looks a bit like an office park I think they pull it off much better than this.
  19. Makes sense. I'll redirect my ire to the hospital. Assume they are hesitating to see just how much of the land they want for their own buildings (especially as the hospital wars gear up in Charlotte). BTW, this is the second time in two days I've clicked on an article that you wrote and dropped in a comment (both well written). That's one way to drive traffic to your work!
  20. Right?! Grubb doesn't catch nearly the crap that Levine does but the lack of movement here is inexcusable during the boom and following the streetcar. Understand the hospital is a major factor but no progress in 15 years is ridiculous (especially with all the grand publicized plans).
  21. Unfortunately, location of teams in baseball is much more important than football because local tv money goes directly to the team. So even being the second team in LA and actually playing in OC, there is no chance they ever leave. Though there is also zero chance LA builds them a stadium, I could see them moving there simply for the increase in franchise value. The Chargers and Rams both are paying huge relocation fees for the market and the impact on a baseball franchise is greater (the Angels could move for free). That's why the Angels use the ridiculous LA Angels of Anaheim now (they wanted the LA name but were contractually obligated to keep Anaheim in the name). I'm betting they build a new stadium anchored by a mixed use development (like the Braves) somewhere nicer in OC and drop Anaheim from the name. There are possible relocation candidates but this isn't one of them.
  22. Absolute need more shade trees in Uptown! It's not an either/or proposition, we can do both.
  23. I know that's the argument, I just don't buy it. Even if true, the people make the decision. I'd personally stay on the street most of the time. In the bitter cold or sweltering heat, it would be a nice option. Toronto and Minneapolis are thriving cities and they have them. The bigger issue for me is placing retail off the street and in the passages but I'd like to think that the tunnels will help people safely get to the retail on the streets. More people (either in the tunnel or on the street) is the goal...
