  1. that one story retail building was purposedly built there for these reasons: when the former office tower at 230 S Tryon was converted to condos that parcel was part of a surface parking lot. The pool for the condos is right behind the Ruth's Chris single story building so I doubt this building will be replaced anytime soon. Nobody wants their pool in shadows most of the day.
  2. Sie alle werden Krispy Kreme Donuts lieben! Krispy Kreme, Inc.: Krispy Kreme Announces Expansion into Germany (finanznachrichten.de) from German business media but in English. Notice the tag line of the corporate HQ. Image of my favorite doughnut unless glazed is hot off the line.
  3. With interstate highways you can not convert existing lanes into toll lanes. NC could not open some lanes on I-485 in Charlotte as they were going to open them as free lanes and then convert when a bigger project was done to tolled express lanes. However, the Feds said you could not do that so the new lanes sat there for a while before the toll lanes were completed unused. So you can add tolled lanes but only as new lanes.
  4. the article did not specifically mention why some tenants moved out. Here are the availabilities in the tower and lots of prime upper level floors. It is close to the main tourist area for sure. The Pinnacle at Symphony Place | Highwoods
  5. Since it looks like the Johnston Building will be converted to a hotel I will put this information here so it does not get lost in the Miscellaneous uptown thread. I think this is the company that will be managing this hotel and JLL which was previously handling the office is located at this building in DC. I traced the LLC that owns this building via where their tax bill is sent to this company PM Hotel Group. They used to be in DC on K St and maybe they still have an office there but now based in Chevy Chase MD right outside DC. Anyway here is their hotel portfolio lots of upscale brands. Lots of Hilton and Marriott properties. Hotels - PM Hotel Group Very excited about a hotel in this historic 100-year-old building.
  6. Nashville with 1/3 of the traffic as CLT has an on site hotel and we still need one maybe behind the hourly deck. I don't know why this has never been a priority even Greensboro PTI airport has an on site Marriott hotel. That is the Hilton at the Nashville airport my photos from a couple weeks ago. Midrise next to the parking decks.
  7. From the OHIO DOT but applies here for sure I think we can agree. ""With construction you may see lanes closed ahead. Use the zipper merge at these points to benefit all drivers. Zipper merges can ease congestion & shorten backups by 40%, delaying congestion by 14 minutes & cutting the line of cars by over 1/3 of a mile! Take turns at the merge!""
  8. from that article GM Defense moved into a much larger building next to the Hendrick Motorsports campus off Burton Smith Blvd. ""GM Defense won a 10-year contract with the U.S. Department of State to deliver heavy-duty sport utility vehicles. The deal has the potential for as much as $300 million in revenue, GM said in November. SUVs are aimed at providing greater safety for diplomats and other government officials riding around Washington, D.C., and other capitals across the globe, while offering the same ride, technology and comforts of GM’s commercial Suburban brand. Production of both vehicle lines shifted in recent weeks a couple miles south to a new 275,000-square-foot building at the Hendrick acreage. Employment of assemblers of the infantry vehicles and SUVs is expected to reach about 80 over the next year or so. But the structure’s size suggests a much larger workforce is likely, depending on GM Defense’s ability to win more contracts and develop other products. Cabarrus County is thrilled by expansions at the Hendrick campus, which represents an important employment hub, says Page Castrodale, executive director of the county’s economic development arm. She notes that GM’s experience “proves the ability of our residents to make just about anything in Cabarrus County.”""
  9. most likely it will as will the 2 tenants Chopt and Starbucks as they were put in after this LLC from DC bought this building and could be seen as amenities for the hotel guests especially the Starbucks. From the post from CLT Development Historic building in Uptown will be converted to a hotel @cltdevelopment and I have learned the historic Johnston Building in Uptown will be converted to a hotel…THIS IS AWESOME This building was completed in 1924 and has some pretty amazing history behind it. Here’s the quick wiki summary - 212 S Tryon - 172,382 SF of space - 226’ tall and 17 stories. It was the tallest building in Charlotte for 2 years. - 2 more floors were added in 1929 - The site was sold in 1923 for $100 after a fire - Spaulding & Slye Investments owns the building and JLL manages the property CLT Development and I are absolutely STOKED about this. Not only are we keeping a historic building, but the use of a hotel is perfect for the site.
  10. this is fantastic news for this 100 year old building. Plus we need more hotel rooms uptown and we are missing so many brands in Charlotte that other cities have and have had for years. Very exciting and a hotel in that spot on S Tryon is fantastic. Here is what a typical 9800 sq ft floor looks like so you can imagine how hotel rooms would be laid out. Tryon St on the right side.
  11. Kannapolis snags its 2nd Amazon facility. ""The e-commerce giant confirmed to the Charlotte Business Journal this week that it's leased an industrial building under construction at 85 Exchange in Kannapolis. That building is about 198,400 square feet and part of phase one of the industrial park being developed by Trinity Capital Advisors. Amazon did not disclose details about its planned operations at the facility. The building Amazon leased is across Davidson Highway from its CLT3 fulfillment center, which is over 1 million square feet."" Amazon leases building at new Kannapolis industrial park - Charlotte Business Journal (bizjournals.com) 85Exchange-BRO-V1 (85-exchange.com) you can see which building they are taking in this flyer.
  12. you are remembering way back and yes you are correct at the old Midtown Square Mall formerly known as Charlottetown Mall.
  13. this is good news about Ricoh , a Japanese company opens a manufacturing center of excellence at the Centennial Campus. Japanese manufacturer Ricoh opens Centennial Campus space - Triangle Business Journal (bizjournals.com) "Japanese firm Ricoh cut the ribbon on its new Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Raleigh Tuesday, a move that will likely mean local technology jobs. The Tokyo-based firm, which moved into North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus four months ago, is partnering with the university to develop new 3D printing technologies and applications at the center. It's also established a workforce development program for both undergraduate and graduate students. Carsten Bruhn, president and CEO of Ricoh North America, said in an interview that it wasn’t clear how many employees Ricoh, which has 6,500 employees in the U.S., would house at the new center. The new hub, a $1.8 million investment, is located in the Keystone Science Center building.""
  14. these apartments at W Bland and S Church look good. Either I am getting softer or these apartments due to all the competition are looking better than in the past.
  15. still like the way this turned out since it is mostly brick.
  16. Concord's hotel district off exit 49 Burton Smith Blvd by Concord Mills and the Speedway is the 2nd largest collection of hotel rooms in the entire Charlotte metro area. Here is the latest under construction a dual brand Tru by Hilton and Homes 2 Suites by Hilton Dual Home2 Suites & Tru Hotel – Concord, NC - BASE4 (base-4.com) this dual-brand will be the 15th hotel or 16th if you count both brands at this exit. 19. the White Lodging high-rise hotel site on S Tryon. Notice their hotel portfolio almost all high rises. Hospitality Management Portfolio | White Lodging Hotels
  20. Up to the 8th floor or working it so 37 more to go! Today.
  21. This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the region and the absolute best in Cabarrus County Gianni's is opening in their new location at Gibson Mill. They were an anchor downtown but new streetscape construction and the developer of the apartments buying their building outright caused them to look for a new location. I will miss their historical location downtown but as a former Cannon Mills plant this is a great location too. Beloved Concord restaurant Gianni’s Trattoria moving to Gibson Mill - Axios Charlotte

Many will come up from Charlotte via Amtrak but locals can drive, bike or walk over. It covers the Warehouse district, Glenwood South, the Capital district and Fayetteville St district.
