  1. Regarding the gondola discussion, I am reminded of a YouTube video discussing the possibility of cable transport: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdTE4TCqkZo
  2. Surely the two companies are related, since two of the Phoenix sites have the same southern California address. The other has a Las Vegas mailing address.
  3. For some reason I misread the title of this thread as "RailEnd SouthYard," even though I know the name of this project.
  4. Has anyone ever noticed this?
  5. ^Not a very flattering angle, but RUS is definitely a landmark addition to the city. It will be nice when Gateway Station is complete so that both ends of the RGH-CLT line have fancy new stations.
  6. Yes, that is where the future Devereaux Meadows Park will be. Does anyone know when activity will start on preparing the park? Or will it follow the completion of Peace/West?
  7. Fair enough, but the building is 50+ years old (according to the notice) and is obviously aging. It can't last forever.
  8. ^ Per the article, City Gateway is still expected to be complete this fall? I haven't seen any movement on the site, so that seems a bit unrealistic or outdated.
  9. Finally! Is there a timeline for construction?
  10. I saw in my CPCC newsletter from yesterday that the college plans to tear down and replace the Pease Auditorium/Hagermeyer LRC/Library structure with a new building. It sounds as though the space will continue to be used through January. This will definitely be an improvement to that part of the campus — the current library is hideous and the plaza in front of it is completely empty every time I walk through it. I look forward to seeing the new structure!
  11. This must be the most-photographed building in Charlotte by now.
  12. The article doesn't say the expansion will be in downtown, only that the company's last 250-job expansion was in downtown. But, it would probably make sense to continue expanding near their existing base. Definitely good for Wake County!
  13. Site plans submitted to the City for Clark Avenue Condos, a 5-story, 51-unit development on three parcels bounded by Clark Ave., Enterprise St., and Garden Pl. I'm glad to see more condo developments in Raleigh, but the elevations included leave me quite unimpressed . . . particularly from the Enterprise St. side.
  14. Yes indeed! I can't tell from your post — do you think that's a good investment or a bad one?
  15. Here's a great article by the (very liberal) NY Times examining the politics of tech workers, centered around Silicon Valley: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/06/technology/silicon-valley-politics.html TLDR: In general tech workers are fiercely liberal on issues like gun control, abortion, and taxation, but have libertarian tendencies when it comes to government regulation and oversight.
  16. Carowinds is currently making room for a major expansion in 2019. Permits have been issued by York County for "Project Alpha," which will span 5 acres in the space formerly occupied by Whitewater Falls, Sand Dune Lagoon, and the station for Thunder Road (RIP). Approximately 1 acre will likely be apportioned for the relocated Woodstock Gliders (which were removed from Planet Snoopy at the end of last season). Given many factors, including the placing of markings and Cedar Fair's history, as well as the current coaster lineup at Carowinds, many signs are pointing toward this being a new, large wooden roller coaster. Exciting times!
  17. The rear portion of Stanhope is probably the only project of Kane's that I object to: https://www.google.com/maps/@35.7887716,-78.6778539,3a,75y,56.43h,101.11t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s_w_FCQfbqPkAL41XuquJmQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en It's very monotonous, grey, and uninspiring.
  18. What an offseason this has been (and continues to be) — here's more news: Thomas Davis suspended 4 games for PED violation Cam Newton crashes his Ferarri F12 into a dump truck in Atlanta Shaq Thompson sued over 2016 traffic accident
  19. According to this article, the station itself is planned to be demolished. NCRR is evaluating the future of the property.
  20. Here's a rough draft of what I would develop on the property: However, I realized later that I would probably want to add some green space in the purple area, perhaps as a plaza or wide landscaped median between the Saunders extension and a possible Rosengarten extension.
  21. Amazon visited Raleigh last week: https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2018/04/04/amazon-officials-scout-triangle-for-hq2.html
  22. Purr Cup Cafe is looking for a location in downtown Raleigh. They hope to open a "cat cafe" in which customers can drink coffee and adopt cats from a separate room. https://purrcupcafe.com/ Sounds like a neat concept, and one that I'd love to experience (as a cat lover).
  23. I agree with you in most cases, but for this property I must respectfully disagree. It's in one of Raleigh's oldest neighborhoods and is right next to single-family homes. I don't feel that more than 12 or so stories is appropriate for this property. Not only would it make for an awkward transition to the rest of the neighborhood, but I'm sure that the neighbors would have a fit over anything that tall. Above all I want to see something that respects the character and state of the neighborhood yet still makes an impact in terms of height and density. I'm sure Kane will deliver an excellent-quality project, however, and I look forward to seeing whatever he decides to build on his new land.
  24. From TBJ - Kane is under contract to purchase 6.8 acres in Boylan Heights, next to the outgoing Amtrak station. He will be requesting a rezoning soon. https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2018/04/02/kane-to-buy-another-prominent-downtown-property.html
