I happened to ride down Fayetteville St. this afternoon and noticed signs at ABC11 indicating a major studio change in May. Has anyone heard any info on this project (it seemed to be development related, but I may be wrong)?

A terrible event; I'm really glad no one was seriously hurt. I wonder if there will be any repercussions regarding wood-frame apartments in the city . . .

Marbles looks to be expanding their courtyard: http://www.wral.com/marbles-plans-courtyard-expansion/16244152/

There are numerous projects in the University area near the I-85/Mallard Creek Church Road exit. I've seen rezoning signs everywhere, and at least one project (a storage unit) has broken ground. None of these projects are listed on the map.

I stumbled across this video of possible growth in Charlotte. I'm not sure if it's been posted here before (probably), but the article was written recently so I thought I'd share it: http://www.archdaily.com/805291/watch-how-urban-growth-can-dramatically-change-the-landscape-of-a-city

So, just curious, in the event that MLS comes to Raleigh and not Charlotte, how would you Charlotteans feel? Angry? Pleased? Indifferent? I'd like to know.

I think that after this hotel's location, the next best spot for a skyline-changing building (the 4th pillar, as I term it) would be around the intersection of E. Hargett and Wilmington. The only problems are that the most vacant lot is rather small (although that could certainly force more height into a building) and that any other sites would take away a lot of street retail. The best location in my opinion would be the Mechanics & Farmers Bank lot.

Part of the parking lot where this will be developed appears to have been taped off . . .
-
The rendering looks okay to me . . . I do agree with some of the already expressed sentiments regarding its height -- more should have been added at this particular site. But I'll be happy regardless.

I don't know where the Wilmington St. hotel plans are (because it's been planned for some time, if I recall correctly), but you can find the Enterprise site hotel plans at the link below, under the Site Review Cases list (at the very bottom). https://www.raleighnc.gov/business/content/PlanDev/Articles/DevServ/CurrentDevelopmentActivity.html Hope that helps!

I'm not an editor of the map, but I do notice that the storage facility being constructed at the corner of N. Graham and Liddell St. isn't listed.

Looking through the City's website, I see site review files for several apartment complexes (some may have already been mentioned before): 113 Chamberlain 102 Logan 901 E. Edenton 306/310 North State Street 305 Oberlin

We now have a professional women's soccer team, the North Carolina Courage (owned by Steve Malik), in the Raleigh area to begin play this spring. Good to hear. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/soccer/article125412239.html

My vote goes toward tearing down Central Prison and building a stadium (either baseball if we could bring in the Mudcats, or the MLS team) and park complex. Plus, it could be connected to a future park/greenway system I'd like to place around Union Station.

Wow! I love how dense this area is becoming . . . and 28 levels? That would be near 400 ft, would it not? My only gripe is that it's not going downtown . . .
-
Interestingly enough, I found on a 1981 aerial view (can be accessed via the iMaps program on Wakegov.com) that Martin Street used to run through the current Union Station property and bridge over the tracks on the west side to intersect with Boylan Ave and Kinsey Street (which used to merge into Boylan, onto a now-replaced bridge. The intersection has been redone since, sometime before 1988, with Kinsey Street deadending at Rebus Works.) But I thought it was interesting that there once was a bridge there!
-
I personally would love to see the areas between the tracks (on both sides of Hargett) filled in with a park. I think it would add a very interesting touch to the area.

Good catch. Looks like 7 stories, 85'.

Does anyone have an update on the timeline of the new Whole Foods? I was under the impression that it was to open this quarter of the year, but no announcement has been made, so far as I can tell.

2035 Triangle Regional Transit Vision Plan

It appears that the 1/2 cent sales tax increase in Wake County has passed, by a narrow margin of around 53-47! Great news for the Triangle! -
2035 Triangle Regional Transit Vision Plan

I don't wish to be too political here, but I imagine that most users here want to see the Wake Transit plan implemented. If so, please remember to vote FOR the 1/2 cent sales tax on your ballot this election. This would be a big step forward for Wake County. -
Ah, yes, an RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction). I'd love to see that happen, but I doubt it will. Carowinds' Hurler is one of two, the other being in Kings Dominion, and theirs has had some issues and is closed for the rest of the year. It's fate does not look good at this point, and I wouldn't expect anything to happen to the Carowinds Hurler until we see what Kings Dominion does with theirs. If Carowinds were to receive an RMC coaster, I would prefer it to replace Hurler rather than renovate it. But this is all basically just speculation -- nothing is official yet.
-
Please don't assume that Hurler is leaving just because I threw it out there as a possibility -- there is no official information behind it at all, just speculation and inference.

Look for an announcement of 2017 additions this Thursday, August 18. From what I hear, the park will be receiving at least 4 vintage "flat rides," to be located in various areas around the park. I'd also keep an eye on the area around Hurler. The park is reportedly moving the access road behind the ride deeper into the woods to make room for future expansion. Also, Hurler's future is a bit hazy. It's possible that it might not last much longer, although I hope this isn't true. I'm not sure if there's anything else in store, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see, eh?
