  1. Happy new year to you as well. I’m most looking forward to CoStar getting going with cranes up and maybe a surprise project like the Monroe building being updated and converted to more downtown living.
  2. Mt. Trashmore, never thought of that one, too funny. As for river trails in RVA, yes, plenty there but I’m not doing those very often anymore, mostly go west to the hills now. I’ve hiked some small sections of the MST as it crisscrosses the Blue Ridge parkway. I do like this trail because when we hike it there’s rarely anyone on it, at least where we were, it has nice views and it’s well blazed, never overnighted on it unfortunately. We’re the same way, all our trips now are based on hikes, parks mountains and trails.
  3. Nice having them free, I know NC does a good job promoting the outdoors, as does VA. We have a VA state park life pass, got that about 7 or 8 years ago, can’t remember the cost, but it’s “free” now, though we paid back then. I’ve done 2 of the 3 parks mentioned but need to look up Pettigrew and make a trip at some point or stop by on the way to another destination. We’re lucky having 2 beautiful states to explore and enjoy. I almost hate saying this as I really love VA but feel NC small towns have done a much better job and have figured out how to take advantage of their location and how to attract tourists with their arts, crafts, inns, access, trails, housing, restaurants, etc, where here, many of our small towns in the hills and valleys have mostly remained just rural towns, gas stations, deer checking stations, fast food, etc., working poor towns, there are a few, like Damascus, but even that is not the same. Hats off to NC, its outdoor scene is good, but we have plenty here too so it’s good to have our connection and take advantage of both and make the trip to each other’s offerings!
  4. I like the NC trails, hike them as often as we can. We do a regular trek to Blowing rock, Julian Price camp ground on the Blue Ridge parkway or on to Pisgah or all the way to the Smokies, beautiful scenery and great hikes, Mt. Mitchell, just good stuff. Some of it reminds me of the New England trails, the high country of NC. VA is doing the same thing, all the state parks are free tomorrow. We’re staying away from the trails as our preference is to see as few people as possible, we really like to be quite, listen for wildlife, walk alone and just be away from crowds, no passing other hikers or walking behind them etc. ruins it for us. This does make sense for getting new people out and introducing them to hikes, we did that ourselves and met in a hiking club, but now, we’re experienced, older and enjoy it differently and yes, go hike tomorrow, wherever you can! Happy new year and to a great 2023, walk on everyone, walk on!
  5. It seems that way, had no idea they’d be this detailed. I’ll have to say, my latest posts are truly living up to the term “shi* posts.”
  6. They even have the “work inside” I’ll just leave this here, yes, they even have a #2 for those that need to have it all.
  7. And it’s raising the port-o-potty, it’s a Christmas miracle.
  8. Lego has everything, even these, which surprises me.
  9. Yeah, pretty prominent areas for fields and low rise athletic buildings, as for the AA center, not sure when that’s coming down, article says the VCU indoor tennis facility will highlight Arthur Ashe.
  10. So much for my up up and away theory, you’re probably right though.
  11. This could go under VCU as well, the athletics village is going to start early 2023 and completed by 2025 as the completion of this project is required in advance of the removal of sports backer stadium and the Ashe center that are coming down for the ballpark. Man, next year will be busy. https://richmond.com/news/local/education/layout-of-vcus-42-acre-athletics-village-is-becoming-clear/article_05dadd2d-f72e-5257-be47-7d286851f353.html
  12. Makes me think of this song and how the building could go.
  13. If I want dinner I’m getting out of that kitchen and I’m actually good with that, when in there I’m usually trying to “help” but it’s never perceived as that.
  14. No, just get the, “it’s my kitchen”
  15. My wife tells me to get out too when she’s cooking, I feel like a kid again when she does that.
  16. Gotta say, my wife’s cooking is good too, feel lucky. I had no idea when we married how good a cook I found. Early on we both worked and bought ready made meals from grocery stores, heat and eat type or just ate food at home that wasn’t complex. When my wife retired she started cooking and for several reasons, cost and health, as ready mades, etc. are salty and typically high calorie, so we never go out anymore, years, and pre-COVID too. It saves money to get other stuff, like hiking gear! I don’t miss it and really enjoy our time dining at home, no children, but it’s our family dinner, love the process and the time spent together.
  17. There was a time that I was never going to eat at chick-fil-a again, but have had a few sandwiches since. This was prior to my knowledge of their political stances, though I should have had a clue being closed on Sunday. This happened in the mid 2000’s, they went after a t-shirt shop in Vermont for printing the phrase “eat-more-kale” on stickers and t- shirts. Chick-fil-a said “eat more” was their trademark and to cease and desist. It turned into a lengthy saga, the t-shirt store owner dragged it out and profited off of this and was criticized. I was surprised at how chick-fil-a was so concerned over a small town shop making a few stickers and t-shirts. When this happened, I said I’ll not eat there again, until one day my now old office brought them for lunch and since then, which was about 3 years ago, I’ve had them a couple more times, I broke my word. https://time.com/3631523/eat-more-kale-slogan-chik-fil-a/
  18. It’s impressive how they move people through their parking lots, that two line merge, pay the roving person at your car window before you even get up to the building, then, they tell you what car to get behind so you get the correct order at the window, yeah, that’s Merica’ now. I’d say that it’s also the McDonald’s for adults, yes, there are kids, but even more adults.
  19. I think it’s a cult, I’ll have their #1 chicken sandwich once every couple of months or so. That’s the breaded chicken, toasted with butter bun and pickles, also, the waffle fries. It’s good, but at my age, can’t go too often or that’s a lot of extra miles on the trail to walk’em off.
  20. There’s one in Short Pump Towne center, one on pump rd at broad and one past Gaskins on Broad all within 4 miles of our home, two within 2 miles and the one at 4 miles.
  21. This is very Goochland, build right on the county border and put most of the burden on the adjoining county. I travel through here to get on 288 and merge onto 64W to hit the hills. I can’t wait for the extra traffic, with my camper in tow, at an already tight squeeze to get on 288 right at this entrance. If I want my fix for their sandwich, which is good, I’ll still go to one of the other two within a couple miles or so of this one.
