  1. Came over here to get the skinny on the Oracle news and apparently I’m the first to post about it? Anyway, congrats on the new world headquarters, Nashville! What a huge get.
  2. The difference is this surrounding area is going to be developed a lot faster than the VUE area
  3. So did VinFast end up offering guidance today in its earnings call?
  4. Do we really need Crowders Mountain?
  5. Someone needs to make a March madness style bracket pool for the various height possibilities. 550’ gets a 1 seed? 275 feet gets a 16 seed, etc…
  6. Nest. Crown feels played out.
  7. So only Houston and Dallas metros grew faster than Charlotte’s. And only the city of Seattle grew faster than Charlotte city. ETA an easier read:
  8. That would be my guess. CLT recorded wind gusts at 56mph on Tuesday. RDU actually had a 69mph gust! These are recorded near ground level so I’m certain buildings at 300’ experienced hurricane force gusts on Tuesday.
  9. Can someone explain what’s going on here, in the circled areas?
  10. Who knew it was possible to out flex the NCDOT when it comes to grass in an urban setting?
  11. Not sure it works that way but if it makes the two third place winners feel good I guess it’s ok
  12. ^ Haha I had no idea the guy’s history but came to that same conclusion just by looking at his picture
  13. Great to hear some of these acres might get developed. Hopefully the loss of all that uptown grass doesn’t put any lawn care companies out of business. /s Edit to add photo of area I assume we’re talking about here?
  14. Nashville’s argument here isn’t exactly compelling imo
  15. I used to work in the old AAA building 30 years ago and the whole area is just unrecognizable to me now
  16. As a Chapel Hill native, this is what initially attracted me to Charlotte in the 90s. Everyone felt on the same page as opposed to the fractured nature of the Triangle. Also as suburban as Charlotte is, it doesn’t touch the sub in the Triangle. And I wanted what little urb was here. I will say this about Raleigh particularly — not the Triangle as a whole — but Raleigh still feels a bit like a cow town to me. Despite its more educated populace, it’s got a much countrier vibe than Charlotte imo. Perhaps it’s the eastern NC influence. The crowds at a Carolina Hurricanes are not the same as the crowds at a Charlotte Hornets game.
  17. I don’t like the sign and don’t think there’s much that can be done about it now. But to me, it’s mostly about the harsh lighting. Take 550 South Tryon for example, it’s a much larger building than Truist and has a dynamic lighting scheme that changes colors and creates the illusion of movement, and yet that building is was less conspicuous that the Truist tower which has its lighting brightness turned up to 11. My solution: would be turn the brightness down to 7 or 8 and remove the lighting going down the sides (they actually do turn off the side lighting after 10 pm which I’m assuming is to placate neighbors trying to sleep). I know some people like it but imo, at night, it’s the Tammy Faye Bakker of skyscrapers.
  18. I’m really hoping the disaster that is Truist will serve a useful purpose of motivating the powers that be to never let such a mistake happen again. And for the record I’m not arguing Wells shouldn’t be allowed to put its name on that building (though I hope it doesn’t!) but I do hope that IF signage is approved that it at least be on a scale comparable to its surroundings.
  19. Real missed opportunity to emulate the style, grace and subtlety of Truist. What’s the point of signage if it can’t be read from Grandfather Mountain?
  20. City will never take those down. Urban planet needs to organize a demonstration and topple them ourselves. /half joking
  21. Isn’t New York the de facto HQ of BofA too? Maybe not to the same level of Wells but isn’t a lot of BofA leadership there?
