  1. This one is going to be so fun to watch...giddyup!!
  2. Am I the only one who thinks banks- especially ones that received bailout money- should be required to forgive debt of all kinds, with no accruing interest, for the duration of this pandemic? I kind of feel like they owe their existence to taxpayers and they should be forced to give back.
  3. I was thinking to screen a garage...like Ally’s maybe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. So I woulda put this in the LU thread, but anyway, it's Duke-related, so here goes- are there any plans to save the neon art thing from the side of the old HQ building? If it is saved, let's hear your ideas for what to do with it!
  5. Everything is under construction- wait til LU2, Ally, Honeywell and LU4 are completed and I bet you’re wrong... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on same exact design & materials as LU2, though maybe some variation in mid to upper floors Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. How many people think the next tower will be on the right side of this pic, and will basically be a mirror image of LU2? Look at that linear cohesion between these 2...seems likely to me they'll mimic that in whatever does go up, creating a striking visual element to this little park...
  8. I know the Hawk is going to be fancy inside, but am I the only on e who thinks it looks horrible from the outside? Meh
  9. Awesome looking building- love it! But yeah, pretty sure that'll change the clientele for Sycamore in a big way...
  10. He's definitely a good dude. My first home was a Furman designed house in Huntersville, built in 1997. I didn't love the look of the roof line over the front porch, so I sketched up what I did like, and lo and behold, he had his crew build it for me at no extra cost. The coolest part- he continued to use my design as he built the rest of the neighborhood out. Definitely a good dude.
  11. A2, are you an economist by profession? Genuinely curious why you're so certain of a recession on the horizon...my financial advisor isn't reading the tea-leaves as quite so dire...
  12. I think a new LR line connecting SP, Park Rd, CMC, CPCC to either the silver line in Plaza/Midwood or blue line in NoDa will eventually make sense. Might actually make sense now.
  13. That looks like a high school shop class student designed it (the signage). They shoulda moved the lettering blow that first set of windows and slightly enlarged the flag in the center of the level it's on now. OR, a flag on both sides in the setbacks, and enlarge the lettering where it is now.
  14. I also disagree- this plot has some serious statement-making potential. Imagine this general curved design, but with 3x the height ...maybe a sweeping incline with rooftop terraces facing the stadium- what a great tailgate spot! If I was an architect this site would make me drool. Also, what are the chances the parking deck could be topped with a deck of greenspace? Something the proposed hotel(s) could utilize, and much nicer for guests and office tenants to look down at.
  15. I hope there's office facing 277...at the very least, try to hide the fact it's a parking deck
  16. Scribe, you didn't seriously think I meant the same building or scale? I simply meant it as an interesting idea that could highlight the old with something that better fits its surroundings. I sincerely doubt that anyone will be wowed by what's proposed once it's up. It's just...a box. A grey box. It doesn't fit in any way to what is on ANY side of it, including the courthouse. It looks like a Hampton Inn, only less attractive. I just think Charlotte should demand better architecture. I do not subscribe to "well, it's one less surface lot". Once built, a structure will be there for a lifetime or two, so why not shoot for something that will at least stir the imagination?
  17. A couple of threads over someone proposed we rank uptown's most attractive and most hideous buildings. This, as rendered, instantly climbs to the top five ugliest. It looks like something my son would have constructed out of grey Legos when he was 3. Why not try a modern complement instead? Something like this would be complementary to both the existing courthouse and surrounding modern highrises. Duplicate the courthouse's front façade in the rear, and let us see it from the ballpark. As a bonus, the annex IS art.
  18. For what I consider THE most important entry to uptown, on the most prestigious street...this is a MAJOR disappointment. That corner should have a commanding architectural presence, but this is just...not...
