Looks a hair above average. Now if they would just cap that deck with green space LU would look pretty good overall -

Just got back from spending time in the Southport area of Boston….which made me think of South End and what it could/should be in the coming years

My reading comprehension skills need work, but at scale with the US Open facility is still a head scratcher

A tennis complex would be cool- I used to play quite a bit…but that was in the 1980s at the height of the sport’s popularity. Do people even play anymore, though? Isn’t pickleball the thing now? Is a complex 4x the size of the US open facility justified in any way by the current and forecasted popularity of the sport? To me, it’s a head scratcher.

I would argue it’s not the courage of the voters, it’s inadequate bandwidth. The average voter has no capacity to know exactly what they’re voting for or against, and most just ignorantly vote their legacy “colors”. That said, the NC GOP has become one of the most underhanded, backstabbing cadre of legislators in the country. There’s history there, of course- who can forget Jesse Helms and his jowls. These days, there is no thought given to the electing populace- only to the PACs. As much as loved my time in Charlotte, I’m appalled at what I see happening in NC politically. I never thought I’d say it, but Maryland is really a better place to live from a political perspective…at least it has been for the last decade or so.

In Munich I remember gawking at the sight of a multi-floor car dealership downtown….how about furniture showrooms? NC has cars and furniture in its roots…seems like a natural fit

How great would it be for the Gold Line streetcar to be on a circular route thru Midtown, up Morehead, under 277 by the stadium, then to Trade? Sigh… -
I’m in full agreement the solution is multi-modal. Just spitballing with the tech angle- I know I’ve put off buying new cars, computers, phones, etc because the next year’s model will have features this year’s doesn’t. And I do think politics plays a much larger role in NC than in other places. I’m no longer in Charlotte, and I’m not intimately familiar with how money is appropriated for transportation projects- this forum is my classroom, really- but it sounds like Tariq is not holding the levers of power. Seems Raleigh has way too much. Charlotte needs a much louder voice up there.

I wonder how much the relatively soon-to-be technological advances in automobiles/busses/etc (self-driving cars, 5G -enabled autonomous caravans, etc), and current cultural non-public transit options like Uber/Lyft factor in on the “failure to plan” on LRT/BRT? Or is really just a fundamental philosophical difference in the public’s role in providing transit? Let’s face reality- cars do take us places fixed transit pathways never can, and people generally like to travel on their own terms. Don’t get me wrong- I absolutely love using subways in DC, NYC, etc…I just wonder if the lack of any plan has something to do with future tech.

What are the chances of something being built in the grass area here? Looks large enough…just hoping for a future building to hide that parking deck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got my DL in VA in the 80s- we were taught in Drivers Ed that the left lane was the passing lane. Moved to Charlotte after college and had to test for DL in NC. Question on test- which lane is the passing lane, was multiple choice. Naturally answered left. WRONG!! In NC, there is no designated passing lane. Not a VA driver issue, it’s a migration issue. People from other states move and bring their rules with them, and chaos reigns. [emoji1308] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m not sure how you can postulate that it’s “bad”? There’s always a first for anything, and if the market appreciates the concept then you’ll likely see more carless development. The market may reject it, but I think that risk is the developer’s…which I would hope did its homework re viability. [emoji1308] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I remember it being pretty controversial when the idea to “privatize” 77 started being tossed around- but I think it’s working out well? I haven’t read of much dissatisfaction with the *is it Spanish?* company who I think built it out north of 85. I am not local any longer so I don’t have any insight- are you folks happy with the arrangement of a private company maintaining that stretch of interstate, the quality of work they did and are continuing to do, dynamic tolling and so on? Just curious Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Republican-run government = as little $$$ spent on infrastructure as possible…unless said infrastructure benefits Republicans. Democrat-run government = as much $$$ spent on trying, but still barely functioning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not disagreeing, but pretty sure BoA will be the tallest building in the end. It’s the centerpiece. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Coming from Baltimore, I will just suggest that Charlotte should DEFINITELY continue to separate grades. Trains and cars should not intersect, like ever. [emoji1308] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is the “interactive” parking deck behind this new tower built to support a tower on top of it? That thing was ahead of its time with the grocery store way back in the ‘90s…I used to walk from my office at Transamerica Square to have lunch and watch kids of all ages play with the lights and make sounds. Seems like a good place for residential for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
