  1. Google will not require much space. Now, hopefully, you will tell me it is something else ...
  2. You must remember that DT is MUCH different that even 10 years ago. There are many people visiting here on business that bring their spouse, and they need somewhere to go during the day (and not Green Hills). Look at the newer offerings in DT ... think ACME ... there is a clientele here today that will support the high-end retail. I honestly, think DT can support this, but ONLY because of the tourists and business visitors, etc. Add in Bridgestone and future .... well, yeah, maybe Commerce Street will have commerce in the future!
  3. "pole bench" ... well, everyone is calling it different names, I just put a couple of the names together. I believe that "leaning rail" may be the correct term, but not 100% sure. The only complaint I could have is that I think it is a little too high for shorter people. Well, I can't speak for bus stops in Chicago, but I can tell you much about the bus stops in Nashville. And I can tell you that the new bus shelters are welcome - at least by me. There does not appear to be issues with "bums" sleeping in the new shelters. But I can tell you that anyplace that has a bench .... well ... not very welcoming here in Nashville. But hey, that is just my personal experience when riding the bus for the past 30-40 years. But most importantly, this is not a conservative/liberal, political, "stick in to the homeless" issue. Please take the political views to the coffee shop. The most "noble" role of MTA is to provide for transit, not housing. **Maybe we should petition MTA to allow unused buses to be parked at the riverfront for the homeless to sleep in overnight???
  4. ^^^ You are COMPLETELY wrong (respectfully). The pole bench works very, very well, providing elderly, pregnant mothers, etc a place to rest. In fact, this is BETTER because you don't have a "jerk" occupying a seat forcing the elderly, etc to stand and is always MUCH CLEANER than a bench. It is not the role of MTA to build homeless shelters. Please try using the bus stop before you rant !!! Thanks!
  5. Those are the final plans. The ballrooms will be left intact for the use of the Renaissance Hotel Also, the "24" story office tower will be 14 stories on top of 10 levels of parking. Same setup for the residential tower
  6. Well, if the moderators don't moderate name calling, then: "I say we give nathan_in_dc the title of Disrespectful DC Dipstick and add to the running gags " I come here for a purpose, not for a social game. I am always respective to everyone - online or in person. I request the same amount of respect in return.
  7. Ignore these people. It's good to know we have eyes in the sky with you there.
  8. From Sunday, the LED panel installation has started
  9. I honestly think the right man for the job is in control. This project is so complex and has so many parties involved plus being in such a high profile location. I doubt any out-of-town developer would commit to and deliver this project.
  10. Many hospitals in New York City provide housing for nurses and even doctors. Usually in a highrise tower next door to the hospital. A huge help to staffing requirements and a great perk for families. It is easy to understand Google's motivation On the farm, we keep a mobile home for the migrant workers
  11. Is Embry the wrong developer? Maybe, but not likely. The issues with the project are obviously complicated due to the parties involved, especially the Renaissance hotel. The meeting room space must be a very big issue for the Renaissance - and understandably so. It is hard for me to grasp how complex this project must be. Without a major office tenant, it seems financing would be difficult for the office portion. I would expect that at least one major retailer and/or numerous retailers committed would be needed for funding the the retail portion. But I assume that any residential should be easy to finance at that site, especially apartments. I still think this project doesn't proceed without 1) a sizable office tenant and 2) an agreement with the Renaissance about meeting room space. Bridgestone was a lost opportunity due to timing. Maybe temporary meeting space could be built in the parking garage across the skyway for Renaissance.
  12. Here is a pic from a recent trip. Can you count the cranes? ** Sorry about the poor quality While our little city is growing up, it will be a long time before we have massive projects that require so many cranes at once. The MCC had 6, plus 2 for the Omni. I look forward to the day we have a project(s) that will need so many cranes FYI, answer is 15 cranes
  13. Why is everyone here complaining? Democracy worked. People spoke. City Leaders acted accordingly. What is the issue???? Brentwood is a community of one house per acre; why change that? What is next? Sub-divide all lots on West End Ave and in Bell Meade? Like UTGrad says above, they can do what they want as long as they don't force it on anyone else .... and they are not forcing that on anyone else. So why force anything on them??? You may not like the choices Brentwood made, but that is their choice.
  14. Nicer people, better food - that is why I moved here! Yes, taxes are MUCH lower, schools are better, roads are better, the weather is warmer, etc. And there is always so much to do here. Downtown/Lower Broad is impressive and all other cities envy this. But this city has an aggressive pro-business stance that drives growth - Nashville WANTS to grow. And each day, you can SEE things getting better. 20 years ago is when I decided to make Nashville home. No regrets. The bottom line: my quality of life is much better here than in other cities. **WW, I hope you understand that I answered your question truthfully....
  15. Rare photo of the "The Mystery Machine" - This beast is known to roam the downtown streets of Nashville during daytime hours. Sadly, locals are unable to track it and catch a "FREE RIDE".
  16. January ... February ... March ....April ..... ==== fingers crossed .....
