  1. An article detailing the new art installation in the New grand lobby. Sounds pretty cool! Can't wait to see it in person. From the article: "The new terminal art in Nashville International Airport’s grand lobby was created by Studio Gentilhomme, a digital art firm from Montreal, and features two panoramic screens, each 70ft wide at 24K combined resolution. The screens will display everything from local beauty spots to sports highlights and more. The idea is to show Nashville off at its largest door to the world." Scenes that will be displayed include but are not limited to: Guitar manufacturing A display explaining how whiskey is made. Nashville at night, going through the city’s skyline Broadway Street, Nashville’s town center thoroughfare Sports in Nashville that celebrates the city’s American football, soccer, hockey, baseball, and other sporting teams Nature scenes showing the nearby Great Smoky Mountains and many bodies of water Nashville International Airport Unveils New Art Installation https://simpleflying.com/nashville-international-airport-unveils-art-installation/
  2. Same lol. I worked in the bridgestone building for 3 years and never saw a soul. It's like they worked on it for 30 mins a day at midnight and that was it. The owner must have deep pockets and very good patience. Property taxes, building materials, and labor have all gone up considerably since they first started on this 10 years ago.
  3. I wonder if the politicians even know where the growth and declines are in the state. I was searching for population and demographic information and came across this site which seems to be fairly accurate using census data. It amazes me how there hasn't been any real infrastructure improvements and investments in alternate modes of transportation by the state in the last 40+ years. Yes we have had some widening and repavements here and there, but those things were already 10 years past due. I guess that's the pay as you go method. https://usafacts.org/data/topics/people-society/population-and-demographics/our-changing-population/state/tennessee?endDate=2021-01-01&startDate=2010-01-01
  4. New Denver building will have 10-story landscaped canyon https://www.9news.com/article/life/style/colorado-guide/one-river-north/73-f618987d-2acb-40c9-9607-14319d59ccfe
  5. I definitely consider this a WIN! any city on the east coast would love to have this regional office. You gotta admit, they have a strong following and with the influx of Californians in TN and the south this will definitely be a success for the region. Hopefully the distribution center in TN is next. They usually will place a DC within a day's drive of their markets so the products are always fresh.
  6. A couple of pictures from my visit over the holiday. I love Nashville snow... Just enough to make it pretty and melt the next day lol.
  7. Yes I stayed overnight in Page. Lake Powell was pretty low. I don't think it's at critical level yet, but could be by July 2023 they were saying. This was one of my top roadtrips. Lower Antelope Canyon was amazing. Weather was perfect in Dec, not too cold or too hot. I definitely plan on doing another roadtrip starting in Salt Lake and visiting the parks in Utah. Another good road trip I've done. Pacific coast highway. Flew into San Jose and drove the coast down to San Diego. Stayed in Monterey, LA, and San Diego. Beautiful going thru Big Sur.
  8. Just got back from a conference in Phoenix and an Arizona road trip. Visited Williams, AZ and the grand canyon, Page, AZ (lower antelope canyon) , and Sedona, AZ. Stayed in downtown Phoenix. I was not impressed. I know we like to complain about Nashville and height, but I didn't see any building that caught my eye and that I would remember in PHX. Their tallest building is the Chase tower at 483ft. With them being the 10th largest metro with 4.9mm people, I wonder if their lack of height has anything to do with the airport being 5 miles from the downtown core. Reminds me of San Diego, but San Diego is more dense in their core. The surrounding area of Phoenix is beautiful but the urban environment did not impress me. These pics are from the 24th floor if the downtown Sheraton I loved Northern Arizona! A couple of pics from my travels
  9. Wait...is this a state office building? I'm confused. Where are the balconies? I've never understood urban living without some kind of balcony or Juliette window. Just an enclosed cold gray concrete and glass box you're living in. Looks depressing, because most time floor to ceiling windows do not open. They could have at least put more than one person in that render lol.
  10. Interesting read about the work being done in Chattanooga regarding 75/24 split. Are there any other states that are pay as you go like TDOT? "Bradley said the reason for the separation of projects is that TDOT is a pay-as-you-go road builder and the overall project was too big to fund, so it was broken into manageable pieces." "Over the past half-century, state and local officials on several occasions sought a fix for ongoing traffic problems at the interchange and its arteries, according to Chattanooga Times Free Press archives." https://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2022/dec/01/161-million-low-bid-awarded-for-phase-2-of-split/
  11. I agree! I find it hard to belive the downtown loop has not been updated (other than Bridge repair and paving) since it's inception. 40+ years later and here we are. One of the fastest growing cities in the nation for several years and nothing on interstate road improvements. I guess landscaped exit and on ramps are out of the picture. FL and GA and even NC tend to do a good job with them in the core. Ours are only in expensive areas like Cool Springs and Brentwood. It makes me think.... Do our politicians never drive on our roads or drive in rush hour in our major cities. They must take private jets or helicopters everywhere.
  12. Stacked glass cubes form eye-catching Vancouver skyscraper. Pretty cool! It's like Alcove on steroids lol. https://newatlas.com/architecture/glass-cubes-oso-deloitte-summit/?amp=true
  13. These are currently affordable housing/ section 8 apartments. Wonder if the new developer will include some kind of affordable units below market rate. This flew under the the radar unlike the complex off of Dickerson Rd.
  14. Not sure why anyone would advocate for getting rid of any low income, disability, and senior housing. Any city would love to have a 20 story housing complex to house citizens, especially during these trying times. Developers buying up affordable housing in Nashville's core has already created affordability issues in the city. Where would you expect for those hundreds of citizens to go? BTW... I have a family member that lives in that building. Yes there have been homeless people at the park shelter, but the majority of the people you may see sitting outside of Parthenon towers are just enjoying the outdoors, listening to music, or chatting with friends. Not everyone can afford to live in $3k 1bd apartments or purchase half a million dollar townhomes. Here are some pictures I took from my relatives house at the Parthenon towers from the 8th floor back in March. Also, the closure of the piggly wiggly hit those residents the hardest. Many do not have transportation and would walk or use their mobility chair to shop for groceries. Now the closest affordable grocery store is either the Kroger in bell meade, Rosa parks or Charlotte Ave. Whole foods and publix downtown are kind of expensive for people on a fixed income or ssi.
  15. Was in town for a couple of days for training at bridgestone tower. Got some shots from the 14th floor at Bridgestone, 10th floor at the Drury, and Rooftop at Jason Aldeans. I counted 12 cranes in the first pic. Also, I did not see any movement or workers at the world's slowest bar build. Is the project dead? It's been 5+ years!
  16. Let's not forget about the FL statehouse... And the maximum security prison that sits behind it lol. And why would they put those ugly awnings on the capital windows. My guess to help with blocking the sun and keeping the building cooler. Seriously, when I first saw the building, I was wondering why would they put a prison that huge in the middle of downtown Tallahassee. FYI... The tall building behind the capital is not a prison, but a state office building.
  17. Found this video on YouTube. And this lady and gents is why we have the best fireworks display in nation. Plus the location is perfect. 34 minutes of awesomeness! Fast forward to 29 minutes The finale is amazing.
  18. I'm in town for an annual bridgestone meeting and I'm staying at the Drury. This is a national meeting with folks from all over the country. They all love Nashville and have nothing but positive things to say about the city. Plus, CMA fest starts tomorrow so the city is buzzing with people and activity. These pics are from my hotel room on the 22nd floor of the Drury and from the 14rhvfloor patio at bridgestone tower. And from an outing we did at top golf.
  19. So it was approved in Feb 2018...4 years ago. Land was purchased for $1mm in 2017. The Egyptians and Mayans built pyramids quicker than this bar. They could have made more money by selling the land probably than taking 5 years to build a bar. https://www.nashvillepost.com/business/development/mdha-approves-stockyard-blue-parrot-plans/article_406ed7fe-4ee6-5b21-8622-78d4181f1448.html
  20. Apparently this the largest Embassy Suites in the US and will be Nashville's highest Rooftop bar. Nice! Largest Embassy Suites in U.S to open soon in Music City, with highest rooftop bar https://www.wkrn.com/special-reports/nashville-forward/largest-embassy-suites-in-u-s-to-open-soon-in-music-city-with-highest-rooftop-bar/
  21. I actually like the team color. It definitely stands out lol. I know ATL teams do similar colors for their football, soccer and basketball teams - red and black. Makes it easier to do marketing and branding for the city and teams as a whole in my opinion.
  22. I agree! I just hope they can maintain the landscaping planted in these areas. Metro has done a horrible job of planting nice medians and letting them become overgrown trash pits. The 28th Ave connector near One City and the Stix roundabout are a couple that come to mind. Is it public works that's responsible for the upkeep?
  23. Very true! Nashville is in Tennessee, y'all. When one part of our state grows, the rest grows," Rep. Johnny Shaw, D-Bolivar, said. "I am from West Tennessee, and I have not heard one single person tell me to vote against this project. We were fortunate enough to get Blue Oval. Thank God. They are fortunate enough to get a stadium that will draw people all over the world. Thank God. We keep acting like a bunch of kids who have one more toy than what I got. We have to do what's right for Tennessee whether it's east, middle or west." https://www.newschannel5.com/news/tennessee-legislature-passes-budget-to-include-deal-for-new-titans-stadium
  24. Hahaha. It may be only for happy hour. I worked in bridgestone tower. Me and coworkers would go to happy hour on Friday's to a couple of places on Broadway. $2 shots and $3 well drinks at the one 4 story bar on the corner.
