  1. Fall Line Trail project breaks ground on 5-mile Hanover segment - Richmond BizSense Nice to see progress on the Fall Line Trail. This is a great project and I'd love to see a spider web of trails crisscrossing greater Richmond. As someone who has lived in multiple places that have such systems, the benefits they created cannot be overstated. Hopefully the whole system comes online before the proposed 2030 completion.
  2. Given the popularity of Ted Lasso, the Kickers should rebrand as the Greyhounds (sorry if this has been suggested previously). The marketing nearly writes itself and maybe Virginia native Jason Sudeikis could make an appearance.
  3. Watching the rebirth of this area is amazing. Twenty years ago, it was a tired, overlooked area. I remember going to the Bill's BBQ in Willow Lawn in high school and it being depressing. Now it may be the hottest (and certainly most interesting from a development standpoint) area in Henrico. Incredible.
  4. The bridge deck park is a wonderful idea that I sincerely hope comes to fruition. It would be a tremendous asset for the neighborhood, heal an urban gash, and hopefully start a trend to do more of this around RVA. Plenty of stretches of 195 and the downtown expressway should be covered.
  5. This is great. Between this and the Diamond redevelopment, Hermitage Road will be a premium street (something unimaginable ten years ago). Excited to see this materialize.
  6. I'd take it. The block, or at least part of it, would be great for a mixed use building. The southern facing units/rooms would have a fantastic view of the river and beyond that would, most likely, never be obstructed. That many new bedrooms would be a big step towards the CBD becoming a twenty-four hour neighborhood.

    Shockoe Bottom

City releases years-in-the-making Shockoe area plan - Richmond BizSense The city has released its Shockoe plan. While I haven't read it yet, I'm sure it will generate a lot of discussion. Solving the flood problem will certainly help the neighborhood's long-term development prospects.
  8. This is a great idea. Hopefully more Commonwealth spanning trails will follow.
  9. I didn't know that Elton John chalked the infield for the R-Braves. Who knew?
  10. When it comes to BRT expansion, the powers that be need to focus on lines that are the most likely to be successful. Successful lines are paramount. Aside from the benefits of mass transit, they prove the concept and open the door to more. Skeptics of BRT, who would gladly pounce on any underperformance, would be silenced by thriving Pulse lines. Being too ambitious here could turn the Pulse into the transportation version of the 6th Street Marketplace. We'd never heard the end of it from the BANANA crowd. While I am totally in favor of Pulse extensions and new lines, they need to focus on those that are most likely to succeed.
  11. Third apartment building at Libbie Mill to add nearly 400 units - Richmond BizSense Nice article on a new building at Libbie Mill. Interesting that the article states that there isn't much developable land left at the site. I guess some suburban parking must persist, although I wished they'd consolidate in a parking deck and build on the rest.
  12. One potential benefit that hasn't been discussed is transportation. Should the biotech center become the economic driver the article says it could be, it will give a boost to the planned intra-Commonwealth train system.
  13. Sauer planning 780-home mixed-use development near VCC - Richmond BizSense Big development coming to VCC. Combined with Green City, this could be the development of a major northern node for the metro.
  14. While I generally agree that RIC's passenger volume doesn't support a fixed rail link at present, if that part of Henrico experiences significant high-density growth, there could be enough people there to merit a BRT/rail option. Unless something unforeseen happens with RIC's numbers (which would be fantastic), any rail connection would require a lot of population growth around the airport too.
  15. Henrico EDA approvals set stage for massive GreenCity development - Richmond BizSense Another hurdle cleared for GreenCity. *Sorry if link doesn't work -- it looks strange but is working for me.
  16. https://richmondbizsense.com/2022/11/01/dozens-of-homes-around-libbie-mill-to-be-demolished-for-projects-next-phase/ Libbie Mill taking another step towards its next phase. The transformation of that part of town is mind blowing.
  17. https://richmondbizsense.com/2022/10/27/sauer-center-developer-snags-last-piece-of-the-puzzle/ Sauer Center progress. This has the potential to be the next big locus of development. It is the crucial connection between the Diamond/SA and the Fan/VCU. Maybe we'll see a few buildings crack the ten floor ceiling, especially on Hermitage/Leigh.
  18. https://richmondbizsense.com/2022/10/26/union-hill-infill-project-would-add-13-apartments-potential-restaurant/ Another infill project. Hopefully the restaurant happens. I love the idea of Richmond having neighborhoods with pedestrian friendly amenities.
  19. This is a placeholder. I suspect Dominion didn't receive much of a response from its RFP and this is a medium term measure that allows it to keep its options open.
  20. Construction firm building new HQ, 26 apartments near Rocketts Landing - Richmond BizSense Nice to see development spreading north to Williamsburg Ave.
  21. Hopefully London will come sooner than ten years. While certainly a long flight (and long shot), I could see Emirates launching a RIC-DXB route. RIC could be marketed as a backdoor into DC/NOVA. Emirates doesn't appear to have a traditional profit/loss focus. It functions more like a loss leader for Dubai so perhaps RIC could be an attractive East Coast destination from which to funnel people and business through the emirate.
  22. Newport seems like an apt comparison, given that folk music, like jazz, is not a mainstream genre. It'd be great if Richmond carved out a nationally recognized niche in the music scene. The RFF further demonstrates how Richmond hits far above its weight class when it comes to amenities.
  23. Aside from what you mentioned, a big takeaway is that a serious player with no ties to the area thinks that Richmond is a good place in which to develop and invest.
  24. As the CVS parcel increases in value, hopefully it can be redeveloped into an urban CVS (ground floor retail with lots of floors stacked on top of it). Having a readily accessible drug store is a good selling point for a neighborhood.
  25. https://richmondbizsense.com/2022/10/05/six-story-apartment-building-planned-beside-willow-lawn-on-city-county-line/ Some more Willow Lawn infill. That area is becoming quite the density outpost.
