Supposedly Tutto Mundo is closing. I haven't seen it in a paper/online yet though. Anyone else know?

I saw this link on another site. It is interesting b/c in the last 10 years it shows how Richmond actually added more jobs than Charlotte. DC kicked major butt and Norfolk/VB did well too. Most cities lost hundreds of thousands of jobs. There is a list within the article. Richmond adds over 10k jobs in last 10 years

Good weekend for the arena with a sold out Bobcats game and Black Eyed Peas. I went to both and was impressed with the arena and the ease to get from the Light Rail to the arena. I don't think they were prepared inside b/c they ran out of different types of beer fast. Having a downtown arena is a big plus for the city considering how many people go to local restaurants/bars after these events. I am so happy we didn't follow Raleigh's lead and build an arena outside of downtown. Great weekend for Charlotte!

Yes, the Fifth Third space was held by BofA. It really helps BofA shed some space before the new tower opens. I am disappointed in Babcock. I really don't see the draw of Ballantyne. That would make me not take a job. I guess I am different though!

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Donato's Pizza is moving in where Queen City Pizza Depot was on Park/Ideal Way. This is in the front part of the center that includes Bloom.

I agree. I would like to have a Club Monaco in Charlotte. The city could support it b/c it isn't that much more than Banana. I would go to the one all the time in Bucktown, but of course it was within walking distance. I am not that excited about 7 or True Religion. Cool jean companies seem to always end up being a fad. Some loser celeb will wear them and the brand becomes "uncool".

Taco Mac is great news! I think it is odd that it is in the Piedmont Town Center. I hope it does well there!

Looks like a new dance club is opening on Tuesday. The Club at Elizabeth. I think it is at the corner of Charlottetown and Elizabeth. That is two new bars in a few weeks.

Wow. It had a long run. Also, Qdoba is moving into the old Just Fresh on Tryon/5th. Just Fresh is moving to the space behind it. I believe this is where they are going to reconfigure the layout in the Ivey's building.

Agree. I am still frustrated though with the empty "Epicurian" lot across East. Does anyone know of any new information about this lot? I know the owners won't budge/sell but the property tax has to hurt after all of these years. It would just be nice to have a block where both sides have activity.

True. These cover charges in Charlotte bars are so confusing. I think it has something to do with being a private club, but it's not a typical in other cities other than big dance clubs. If I hear there is a cover, then I don't go.

Seems like there was an issue with the lease expiring. I wonder if it will reopen. Bars like this typically have a loyal following. So, now the Eagle has closed and the old Liaisons will reopen.

I drove by it on Sunday and they were fixing up the outside of the house. It looks like they are replacing the siding that rotted and reinforcing the columns that hold up the balcony. I hope it is true!

I heard a rumor last night that the old Liaisons space is reopening. Supposedly four guys have come together to redo the bar and open under a new name.

I believe so, however there aren't any signs up yet. I would love to see it downtown but I wonder if the lack of weekend foot traffic would deter them from putting a store there. I think it would help Revolution if there were more clothing retailers nearby.

I bet it won't be long until H&M announces a Charlotte store. Space could be an issue at SouthPark right now. I also heard a rumor it may look to go in somewhere Uptown.

I wish East Blvd Bar and Grill could have taken the Rock Lobster space. I like Latta, but it seems that the parking issues keep people away from the businesses that have been there.

I think they are all in the University. My only concern with TWC or TIAA CREF moving the HQ to Charlotte is that I think they would keep the NYC address for prestige. I could see most of the lower paying jobs coming here, while having upper management in NYC. There is still movement in HQ relocations during the recession. I was in VA last week and my friend said Northern VA recently landed four new HQ's from other states. I think it was Volkswagon NA, Hilton Hotel Group, SAIC and CSC. The last two make sense b/c of the focus on government, but Volkswagon and Hilton helps diversify its economy. I wish we could land something similar!

I've been thinking the same thing! Richmond had an old stadium and was at the bottom in attendance too. The city said no to a stadium deal and the Braves found someone who said yes. Now Richmond will probably build the same stadium in the Shokhoe Slip for a AA or A team. It's all about who will dish out the $$$.

That is awesome! Way to go. I can't believe the guy said "do you know who I am". That is so lame! Anyone who pulls the "do you know who I am" card certainly isn't for equality.

Hey that is good to know. I haven't read much about the mayoral race but I did hear it is close. It would be nice to have a mayor who doesn't cringe when he hears the word "gay".

That is really sad for Charlotte. I wish some of the bigger corporations would put a fire under the City Council. I don't think anything will change the Council's course of action unless it is a possible economic loss or reduction in political donations.

I noticed today that Picasso's is being painted a royal or cobalt blue. I like it! It will add some color to East Blvd.
