  1. Maybe Charlotte can follow Chicago's lead and use the "Doomsday" threat every six months. The CTA is always out of money and they threaten to shutdown services if local or state funding isn't provided. It's always big drama but someone pulls through and then it happens again. Of course, in Chicago the CTA is a necessity where Lynx is still a "nice to have". I bit the city wished they asked for 1 cent rather than a half cent a few years ago.
  2. I am cool with either area. They just need to get it out of SC so more fans will attend the game. It would be nice to go to a bar or restuarant within walking distance after a game. Plus, you could see a small rise in Lynx ridership, which is a win for transit numbers. I still cannot believe Gwinnet Co. built their stadium in almost a year.
  3. Money aside, I still hope this happens. Bringing more entertainment Uptown only helps the city and its' goals. Maybe the Knights will postpone for a year or two. I also follow what is happening in Richmond and it is the same back and forth crap. I love how long it takes some cities to get stuff done. Either build the stadium or pull the freakin plug!! Anyway, I still hope the city or some private developer builds the adjacent urban park. There are way too many surface lots in this area of Uptown.
  4. I don't know. Personally I think people can go to Minneapolis for that. If Charlotte wants to add street level retail then the skywalks have to go. Just my oppinion though.
  5. Agree! The people that help plan downtown need to try to restrict skywalks. It's like having a domed football stadium in the south. Totally unnecessary!
  6. Yes, both have positives but you also have water which really makes a city great! You've really got it all except height and hopefully that will happen soon. Could you imagine how awesome Tidewater would be if you put the all seven urban centers in one place?
  7. I never get tired of downtown Norfolk or Richmond pics. I love the density! I wish Charlotte had your density and stock of old buildings.

    The Vue

Wow. It has shot up lately! It actually looks dense in the 4th Ward too. I really like!
  9. Thanks for the pics. I don't like the view from here as much b/c it sits so low and you can see 277. I wish they would have incorporated Wendy's into one of the buildings rather than having the free standing structure. Oh well. I doubt Wendy's would go for that anyway.
  10. Agree, it is a good read. PBS in Chicago has a few good documentaries about the gay rights movement and even had a 2 hour special recognizing those in Chicago who transformed the city. I do think most southern cities have moved their events to the Fall, which seems like the right thing to do. I went to the Pride Festival in Chicago last year and I was surprised how many people were at the parade. The parade went on for 2-3 hours. It was crazy how many floats there were. Anyway, it is nice to see a new festival in Charlotte.
  11. Interesting. I wonder why the just don't have Pride that weekend this year? I think Atlanta moved their's to October or something so people should be in town.
  12. Voyager ... I agree. I vote for a Whole Foods but I would take a Costco too. It would also be a cool location for something like a Container Store. I don't think there is one in Charlotte yet.
  13. This is interesting. The end of this article mentions that if 5/3 can lease its space in the University area, it would like to move Uptown and put its name on the building. 5/3 Moving Uptown?
  14. Nice update. Thanks for posting. It seems like this is moving along. Do you know what the stone structure is for?
  15. That sucks that a new stadium is dead. Oh well. I guess we won't have to read about it in the Observer anymore. Hopefully the court case has been stopped so it doesn't waste anymore money!
  16. I think Gwinnett did it without putting it to a county vote. Don't quote me on that but I know it happened fast (< 2 years). Richmond has been inept on getting this done but if they can make this plan happen then I think they will have a good thing. Richmond really needs this downtown. I think they already have a team from CT ready to move and the Nationals would like to put a team there in the future. Now that Wilder is out may be the new mayor will push this through. Plus maybe VCU will put money in it if the Rams also use the stadium. Back to Charlotte.... I am confused about Charlotte b/c I think the owners are willing to build the stadium. May be wrong but it wasn't 100% city financed. If I were the owners and I had a team that comes in last in attendance then I would seriously look elsewhere in the city to build. I would think every year in Ft Mill means a greater loss of money. I am partial to an Uptown/Southend stadium b/c I don't like going to Ft Mill for a game. Hell they could put the stadium on East Blvd and bulldoze the whole thing since the city seems to care less about that street having urbanity (talking about CMC).
  17. I do think a plan, like Richmond's, would be great for downtown, but it could also work in Southend or any other area that will be serviced by light rail. The fact that the Knight's plan has been in slow motion for so long is really annoying. I know the court procedures are slowing it down but it really shouldn't take this long to come to a conclusion! I am beginning to wonder how much the Knights really want to move.
  18. So, I was looking at Richmond's new plan for a baseball stadium downtown (Shockoe Bottom). There aren't too many pictures but I really like what they are doing adding retail/entertainment to the mix. The retail looks like a real urban environment rather than an "entertainment complex". I really wish Charlotte could add something similar. Also, the Knights need a freakin website for their new stadium! Here is a link to Richmond's new ballpark: Richmond's Ballpark Plans Due to the fact that Richmond took so long to build a new stadium, their AAA team left for Gwinnett County, GA. Now they are looking for a AA team to take the Braves place. Charlotte really needs to watch out b/c the owners want $$$$.
  19. I am still confused. Why is there a need for CMC to go all the way to East Blvd? Why do they need a street presense? This is sort of insane. They could totally build around some of the retail on East. I figured this would be a bigger deal b/c a lot of people move or want to live in Dilworth b/c of East Blvd.
  20. That really sucks. Does anyone know how much of East Blvd that CMC will tear down? I am surprised the city is letting this happen. East Blvd is one of the only "cool" streets in the city.
  21. That's good news. At least there is still a movement to move the team Uptown. As for MLB.... I don't think Charlotte can support a team right now. Let's prove we can support a AAA team and then maybe a MLB club will look harder at Charlotte.
  22. That's great news. I guess they will be ready in time. I think the Filmore and the outdoor amphitheater are both supposed to be ready by summer!
  23. Nice. If you get a pic of the new facade, please post. I love the Euro Pub look. I would love to see NoDa expand the urban fabric so it eventually connects to Uptown.
  24. That makes sense. I could see the city pass it with a "Yea" vote. I would think they would push fast and hard for a new stadium due to the fact they are last in attendance. This should result in a poor bottom line. I would love to see it uptown but I would take it in Southend or somewhere else close to Uptown just to get it done fast.
  25. I love it. I know other cities have these types of buildings but it's time for something different in Charlotte! I am actually more excited to get college kids in downtown.
