  1. Maybe in its day, but at the time it was demolished, it was a homeless haven, boarded up and falling down. I remember vividly the sign that was in what was the old ticket window, "Warning, this building protected by a pit-bull with AIDS." Too bad that it got in that condition, but don't blame the guy who tore it down.
  2. I doubt that'll happen, bondsmen need to be near the court.
  3. I doubt that any significant number of us will oppose it; since we didn't with Buckingham which is much closer
  4. I haven't surveyed every new development, but all that I am familiar with have underground lines on property they control. The problem is the surrounding area, right?
  5. It's not quite finished, but the garage/plaza development at the First Tennessee Building across from the Hermitage Hotel is looking nice.
  6. Under Tennessee's structure, we have a very weak governor. It only takes a simple majority of each house to override. In other words, if they could pass it in the first place, they can over-ride the veto. So, the battle has to be waged in the Legislature.
  7. There is no more "M" as the medical center financial issues took it out of the building. Buckingham will start site prep in May.
  8. Nothing good happens anywhere after midnight.
  9. Not going to be a "W". My source says that a letter of intent with a boutique hotel chain has been inked with details to be released later. Supposedly the chain has a opened 8 locations within the last year, and is not a "cookie-cutter" operation. Also expect construction fencing to be erected within the next 30/45 days.
  10. Sort of off topic, but I think that the MTA really missed an opportunity today when the Nashville bubble failed to stop our roads from becoming an icy mess. Around 7:30 or so, the MTA stopped all its buses [or held them at the downtown depot] for over an hour due to road conditions. Now, I applaude the MTA's commitment to safety first and I don't begrudge its decision [eventhough I stood in the cold and wet for over an hour and a half after the MTA announded a resumption of service], but wouldn't it have been great if the MTA could boast that, while auto commuters were spinning off the road, or stuck behind a pile-up, that MTA's buses continued to run? I support our MTA and defend the service [and the BRT and AMP] to my colleagues against their many incorrect assumptions about public transport. And, as even as I insist that my route [No. 7] is usually on time, the one thing that keeps being said as a reason not to ride is that car travel is just more dependable. By failing to take advantage of today's ice and snow, the MTA made that argument harder to defeat.
  11. If. I understand the plans and the rendering correctly, the balconies are on the apartments, not the hotel. The hotel is the shorter portion in the lower left. It is topped by a pool deck.
  12. I agree with Nathan. As a neighbor, I am excited about the development of these parcels, and very hopeful that the developer will come through with the prospect of a real grocery. And, something other than another honky-tonk or pizza parlor is a welcome change. But, this just seems to be an attempt to do too much in what is really an awkward space.
  13. That story is a little late, as work has been going on for a couple of weeks. By my count, the description of the restaurant in the story is the third "concept" for this site. I'm glad I'm not in the restaurant business.
  14. Me either, although I am aware that most of the tenants in the building have moved out already.
  15. It's Love Field, not DFW. Nashville is one of 15 cities that Southwest will begin servicing with a direct flight out of Dallas Love Field this fall, following the repeal of federal flight restrictions imposed in 1979 that limited the airport's reach
  16. Well, I said it earlier in this thread; it was part of Ned McWherter's reasoning for the Bicentennial Mall.
  17. There will be no second tower; the land proposed for "phase two" was converted into Adelicia Park with a conservation easement.
  18. Yes, it is. I've heard nothing from my contact at Buckingham nor have I seen any activity on the site. Speculation here is that Wendy's didn't see any point in continuing given the weather and the upcoming deadline on employee insurance. As of this morning, there is nothing at Ken's to indicate that it won't open on schedule later today.
