  1. My info is that they have tried and tried to get a real grocery store to commit, but so far have not. We've been told it will more likely be something closer to a convenience store than a full service Kroger. Still better than nothing.
  2. To the immediate right of the Adelicia is the current Washington Square condos.
  3. They don't have any reporters so they don't know that's expected.
  4. In reality it is the Broadway and Division intersection pictured - 21st is a little further SW. And, it looks as if it mimics the current routing, which is an improvement over the previous split around "Broadway Park."
  5. Noticed that the Omaha Steakhouse has left the midtown Embassy Suites. replaced by a generic.
  6. As I mentioned in another thread, they are only studying the idea and may remain even after a sale.
  7. Seems everyone is jumping the gun; Lifeway is only studying the idea [at least according to the Tennessean article] and may consider staying in the facility after sale.
  8. This is still tentative and assumes that there is no bid protest. Move-in date is very optimistic.
  9. Oh, come on. The Sub Stop is just a concrete block building. I'm a regular there, and hate to see the business go away, but tear it down!
  10. Answering my own question, at least on the interstate end, in the afternoon, the new striping is an improvement. The change in the turn lanes on the interstate bridge makes that portion go much faster, although I foresee problems in the morning rush. the afternoon traffic backs up nearly to the Y when the light is red at the interstate, but clears before changing to red again. So, at least for outbound traffic, it works.
  11. It will be interesting to see how this affects Church Street traffic. I walk the bridge most every day. I can see it helping the always surprisingly large volume of traffic into and out of NES, but not sure that it will make any difference to either the I-65/40 or YMCA ends
  12. I'd be very surprised if the Lennar project on Chet Akins moves forward, at least in its initial design. Erica Gilmore has stated her opposition to the changes in the overlay that'd be required, and according to Lennar, the property presents problems that make a project within the zoning not practical. The several neighborhood meetings that Lennar and Gilmore held were uniformly negative towards the proposal.
  13. My first office was in 121, back in the early 80s. At that time it was a true beauty that deserved better that it received from different owners in the mid to late 90s. The same can be said for 119. Now, it's time for them to go.
  14. They have those races in Knoxville, on Kentucky Lake at Pisgah Bay, and used to have them on Old Hickory. Think Nashville Fairgrounds racers on water.
  15. Knoxville has 3 Federal courthouses, the old Courthouse and Post Office is now owned by the State and houses the Tennessee Supreme and Courts of Appeal, the former Whittle building that currently houses the Federal courts, and, in between, the Duncan Federal Building, that houses government agency offices. For interior beauty, nothing competes with the old Courthouse. It is where, among other historic events, the TVA was held to be a constitutional use of federal power. Kudos to those in federal, state and local governments who made it possible for the old Courthouse and the Whittle Building to remain useful public spaces.
  16. Not to be Debbie Downer [again], but " my Chief said that we are first on the list to have a new Courthouse built" has been the case for at least a dozen years. As I understand it, the money to build keeps getting earmarked for other projects, in part because Jim Cooper doesn't believe in earmarks. We've been at the top of the "need" list since well before Congress named the new courthouse for Bill Frist.
  17. That's my recollection, from way back. Someone on here posted with a comment from one of the businesses that were relocated from the site [Porter paint?] that their property was being acquired for future expansion of the interstate ramp.
  18. Sorry to hear that; those guys are hard-working, honest, and a pleasure to do business with. I've been a customer of Bobby's for nearly 35 years. The irony is that they migrated from Universal Tire [now 1212], to the M Street property being converted to a restaurant, to Ewing. And now this. I'm all for the development of the downtown and the Demonbruen Connector, but we have to realize that progress comes with a cost. Here we're losing a local business and people are losing their jobs. Too bad.
  19. Joanne Graves, the mayor of Gallatin, deserves a great deal of the credit for getting this one to Gallatin.
  20. I'm not a historian, just someone who remembers [mostly]. The hole wasn't that deep, there was just one basement level.
