  1. My 14 year old daughter, her mom and stepdad, just moved back to SC from Asheville, this past Tuesday, after living 3 years in a loft apartment next door to the Mast General Store on Biltmore Ave . They are living temporarily in an apartment complex in Greenville, called McBee Station, while the town home they have under contract on the other side of downtown is constructed. I live in Columbia, which has been considerably less conservative than the upstate during my lifetime. However, I've worked in Greenville for 20 plus years, and took trips there to visit family, and I can, without reservation tell you, Greenville (the city..can't speak for the county) is a fantastic, arts friendly, people friendly, business friendly place, set in a photogenic spot just shy of the mountains. I think you too will love it, as I hope my daughter loves it. It is only 1 hour and 45 min from my house, so a much better drive than Asheville. Its downtown is very clean, and orderly, and the Peace Center is always putting out diverse and impressive offerings. I'd say go for it. Check out Columbia and Charleston, too. All very different places, but all score high on quality of life, in my mind's eye.
  2. The Soda City street market reopens today. Let's hope everyone stays safe. It is one of the best things about living here.

Yes, these were all part of the larger Sasaki plan. I had believed the plan to have been scrapped a couple of years ago, as all momentum towards fulfilling it came to a crashing halt. However, I did confer with someone at the City, and in the know on development issues, who said the plan is still a go. This preceded the plague, but he said there were some issues which still needed straightening out such as the brownfield type cleanup required for development of Riverfront Park. Also, certain items were attached to a penny tax plan, which ended up in litigation. Who knows if we'll ever see anything even closely resembling the Sasaki plan.

News has been disappointingly non existent. All these items need addressing. If that park ever gets built, it will absolutely be a game changer.
  5. The Hub- at 312 Echols St..this is where my daughter and her mom are moving. If any of you guys can periodically provide photographic construction updates, I'd appreciate it, as I live in Columbia, and will only be travelling there once the move is complete. I understand they are a little behind in construction, as understandably, most construction projects everywhere in the world have been slowed a bit. The renderings and floor plans look nice, and I am satisfied my girl will enjoy living there. Apparently there is, or will be, a Starbucks, within steps of her front door, so, needless to say, she's stoked about that.
  6. As a lifelong Columbian, that stretch of Devine (essentially demarcating the Shandon and Old Shandon neighborhoods) is one of my favorite parts of town. It has galleries, restaurants, churches, bars, and is close to downtown offices and other districts like the Vista and Five Points, while being far enough to retain its distinct upscale and family friendly vibe.
  7. There's an arcade bar coming to Main St, which is set to open soon. I am unsure where on Main it will be located, but surely this is good news. The State has an article up, but it is subscription only.
  8. Very much looking forward to this.

Where downtown is this exactly? Please bear in mind I am a Columbian, so while I have been to Greenville many times, I am unfamiliar with this "East Downtown Innovation District" thingy.
  11. https://columbiabusinessreport.com/news/construction/78367/ I am so looking forward to this.
  12. Speaking of crime, maybe you can give some advice. My teenage daughter, her mom and step-dad are moving to Greenville this summer. They have under contract some new construction in the Buncombe/Pete Hollis Gateway vicinity. My daughter will be attending a private school there, but I would love to know if the area into which they are moving is safe. Her mom is excited about the development of Unity Park, and being able to walk to Main St. What do you think? I use to work in Greenville on Pendleton Street, and as beautiful and dynamic it's Main Street and West End corridor was becoming, I always found the area where my office was, to be pretty sketchy.

    The West End

My 14 year old daughter and her mom are moving to Greenville. My daughter has been heavily involved in the theater scenes of both Columbia and Asheville. We are sort of feeling out what the Greenville scene is like. The Children's Theatre looks great. I hope she will stay in Greenville a long time, as it's obviously a great town, and get involved with the arts, there.

Free delivery of one of the best pizzas you can get this side of Brooklyn! Hope these guys, and all the little guys, can keep it together until this storm passes. https://columbiabusinessreport.com/news/business-services/78171/

    Five Points

https://www.thestate.com/news/coronavirus/article241345446.html Locations in Columbia, Charleston and Aspen are all closing. Sad times economically across this country, but I know one day (and hopefully in the next 2 years) we will be back, and better than ever.
  18. Hi from Columbia. This is extremely impressive!
  19. The Edge tower has passed muster, and has the green light to proceed. I stand corrected from my previous post, as it is scheduled to be 16 stories, not 15. I hope the hit to our economy will not prevent this being built, as it will help fill out our downtown skyline some.
  20. Columbia's Vista was expected to have a nice go with the women's regional, as USC is the top seeded team in the country. I hate that for all the bars and restaurants, and hotels, taxi drivers, Uber, Lyft, etc, that have been adversely impacted by what is happening. Having said that, I can't say I disagree with the decision to shut things down, even if I am not changing the way I live my life, personally.
