  1. Great pic! Nashville is a great balance of the traditional and modern.
  2. Excellent news on the Edge and the Cambria. The Edge will certainly fill out the downtown skyline a bit, and the Cambria continues to add guest rooms to the Vista; seems the expansion of the convention center is inevitable, if not overdue.
  3. Congrats to the #1 ranked SC women's basketball team for their 5th SEC Tournament Championship in 6 years, and to Greenville for being a wonderful host!
  4. I love the unique architecture. Wish we had more stock like this in our cities.
  5. I am curious to see the renderings of the other two. With one of them being a Hyatt Regency, and the announcement it will become Columbia's largest hotel, I wonder how many floors it will be. Judging by the placement against the conference center, I suspect it will be larger but not in a vertical sense.
  6. https://hotelanthem.com/ One of the three new hotels for the Convention Center area. This one, according to the above article, is clear to go (the city just has to approve its signage). The Hyatt Regency will be the largest hotel in Columbia, and there will also be another Hilton within short walking distance of the other two.
  7. https://www.heraldsun.com/news/state/south-carolina/article240927681.html Plans for 3 new hotels, and an expansion of the Columbia Convention Center which would make it 4X as big. The city and business community need to unify on this plan, and get it rolling as soon as possible.
  8. https://www.wistv.com/2020/03/05/bullstreet-development-lands-new-craft-brewery/ New brewery and restaurant set to open at Bull St!

    Innovista

Hi Ammar. Thanks very much for the update. The village will be transformative.
  11. Prayers from the Columbia, SC board. Nashville is one of my favorite cities, and I know it will rebound. I hope everyone who posts here are safe.

  14. I'm not sure how I missed this. Being on that list is pretty awesome, as all those mentioned are much larger cities. I've lived here almost 50 years, and I'd love to participate in this.
  15. That might be a destination store, which is great, but I sure wish they could have had three or more commercial tenants up and running simultaneously. I understand it is risky being the first ones, but to build traction we need more than baseball.
  16. https://columbiabusinessreport.com/news/retail/77974/ I am sorry to see Bone N close, but there is just not enough on site to draw people there apart from a baseball game. The development will be successful,I hope, but it is always tough being a pioneer entrepreneur when there aren't any existing businesses surrounding you to generate foot traffic. Just going to take time. Columbia is so spread out, with so many districts in which people go to spend $, there has got to be more reason to drive to Bull Street.
  17. Driving down Assembly today at lunch, when I noticed a massive gap at the corner with Lady St, where Moe Levy's used to be. When I say gap, I mean to say half a city block is completely gone. Demolition looks complete. The Palms at Lady (cheesy name- I dislike every new development incoporating the "at"-sounds pretentious as hell, but I digress) will be a six story, high end apartment complex. It should have ground level retail, and is scheduled to begin construction in the 2nd quarter of this year. On a side note, I am looking forward to seeing site prep on the opposite side of Assembly, a little further north, for the Edge. As far as I know this 15 story apartment complex is still a go.

    CanalSide

Canalside has announced its first commercial tenant in the development: The Front will sell local craft beer and coffee, and should have a pretty nice view of the river.
  19. https://columbiabusinessreport.com/news/construction/77904/ As a lover of good beer, I am happy to see this. Many are not on par with the worst breweries in Asheville, but, the quality is improving. The competition of so many of these businesses for one metro area will force quality to eventually improve.
  20. https://columbiabusinessreport.com/news/real-estate-commercial/77986/ We've been waiting on this prominent intersection to be developed a long time. Hopefully this project will spur development on the adjacent parking lot, which once served as SCE&G's bus barn.
  21. Is the large swath of green space on the right side of the bottom photo what will be Unity Park? My daughter is moving there, and her mom was telling me about this huge park under development they will be able to walk to from their townhouse. I've traveled to Greenville for work and to visit relatives, for decades. I must say the synergy around Main Street and West End is impressive. With the addition of Unity Park, and the County office redevelopment, Greenville will take it to another level. Beautiful town.
  22. I could not get around the State's online pay wall, but there is a story on a new brewery in the works for North Main which will be one of the largest in the state. Add that to Cottontown Brew Lab, the War Mouth, and Indah Coffee, and that area is slowly (very slowly) turning the corner.
  23. The Kline Steel site at the major intersection of Gervais and Huger has finally gotten clearance for a $92 million development to include 2 hotels, retail and residential. One of the two hotels is an AC by Marriott, and the other will be announced later. I really hope that intersection will be worked on to become safer for pedestrians crossing, as it is a very busy one. Also announced today, a Cambria hotel will be built in the Vista, at the corner of Lady and Park, in the lot behind Mellow Mushroom and across the street from Art Bar.
  24. New town homes in the 400 to 500 range in West Cola, on the river. Can't link the news on this, but they are quite modern looking.
