  1. This is the first I've heard of that development unless it was the one proposed for Meeting Street between Alexander and State in West Columbia. If so, I had never seen any renderings of it.
  2. The newer 5 Points fountain and Saluda Avenue: Harden Street in between the afternoon shopping rush and the nighttime bar rush:
  3. It would be nice if all of the creeks in town could be restored to their natural state - they add so much to a neighborhood.
  4. The article was wrong - it is 142,500 square feet, not 24,500.
  5. The "Stay in Columbia" website linked in the article leaves a lot to be desired. I sure hope they spruce it up somewhat.

The height limit in the Vista is 80 feet, although there was a slight variance for the Hilton. I agree with Spartan - this building will probably be 4 or 5 stories - along the lines of the Arnold School of Public Health. I'm sure it will be a much bigger building, however, in terms of square feet. They will probably need 400,000 to 500,000 square feet for the School of Business. On another note; while it seems odd to me that the DMSOB (sounds bad, I know, but too long to spell out) will be located on the "research campus", I think it will work well, especially with USC"s prestige in international business. I'm sure thee can be some significant partnerships between international companies locating in Innovista and the MIBS program. This is great news all around. I don't know why it will take 3 years to build, though.

It really is huge; these are probably mostly 6 figure jobs, which aren't nearly plentiful enough here.
  8. This is only partially an Innovista development story, but I wasn't sure where else to put it. The Department of Justice has agreed to lease the current USC Darla Moore School of Business buildings to house some functions affiliated with the DOJ Training Center next door. This will bring 250 high paying jobs to downtown Columbia. This will also allow the DMSOB to build a new location in Innovista. I would rather see 250 high paying jobs than 1000 fast food jobs. DOJ
  9. Great; and I'm trying to lose weight. I keep wanting to call you Ronak the Barbarian, but that was Conan, wasn't it?
  10. Yeah; you miss the whole feel of being in college and being close to everything.
  11. I have no idea why students would want to live in those complexes off Bluff Road. I'd rather be able to walk to class, Five Points and The Vista.
  12. I've seen it before, but I don't remember the dates. They still need to repave the most recent section.
  13. Likewise there are stores in Columbia that are not in Greenville and/or Charleston.
  14. There's no reason that Nordstrom would move into the Greenville or Charleston market first. The per capita income in all 3 metro's is very close.
  15. Dillard's, as a company, is in poor shape so it isn't beyond the realm of possibility. If they close I vote for Nordstrom's to take their place.

OK now you guys are making me hungry and I'm on a diet.

I didn't mean you had to change your name, I was just hungry for Italian food, lol.

I'll call it tiramisu - the colors are similar and "Adesso" is an Italian name, lol.
  19. The State has added the rendering for the new building for Holy Trinity. I hope the dome will be tall enough to have a visible place in the skyline.
  20. If they open for lunch, though, it would be a waste of time if they use the same lunch model as Jammin' Java.
  21. I hope the food is better than it was at Jammin' Java and Jammin' Jazz or it won't last any longer than they did.
  22. That will make up for about another 10% of SCANA's move. We may have that move covered by the time it happens. Arrivederci, chumps!
  23. Slightly off topic, but my long term plan is to stay in my current house for about 10 years and then get a loft or condo in the heart of the Vista. At the rate things are happening, though, I might have to move up that timetable a bit, lol.
