I hope to go back in a couple of weeks when there will be more color on the larger trees. You can't see all of the color in the smaller trees from up there.

I made it to the Top of Carolina for lunch today and took some pics. I'll go back on a sunny day and hopefully get better pics. The first is a 360 degree pano, which didn't turn out too well and the other is Five Points from the TOC.

The State has announced that Mast will, in fact, open a store in Columbia. Mast

The Mast in Knoxville has residential space above the store - one of my co-workers has friends that live in the building.

That's old news. I went into the Mast in Knoxville today. It was ok, but nothing spectacular.

Actually I think it exemplifies the point that if you live and work downtown you don't have to deal with that traffic.

The lack of available credit for small businesses is driving a lot of the business closures right now. It's a shame that a measly $4000 stove will force that business to close. They must have been teetering to begin with, though, for such a small item to be a back breaker.

I might have to check out the show to see the sites of Columbia though I have no interest in the subject matter otherwise.

I generally consider "downtown" to be the original 4 square miles of the City of Columbia, which includes Elmwood to Whaley and Harden to the river. This includes the Vista, the Main Street District, USC and Five Points.

I wish they'd add a cruise to Bermuda from Charleston - the Bahamas and Key West are too common in terms of destinations.

I concur. I am especially concerned about the fact that this developer was involved with Green Diamond. I personally hope this deal falls through.

Something like that will be awesome. I'll have to check that out when I'm in NYC next week. I am CONTEMPLATING taking a 360 degree pano of Manhattan from a circle line cruise, but don't know that I want to spend 3 straight hours taking pictures on a boat.

There are plenty of mid to upper class neighborhoods surrounding Five Points, not to mention there is already a significant amount of retail in Five Points.

Apple would be a nice addition to Five Points even though it is a chain. With USC and the Apple-type neighborhoods surrounding Five Points, I think it's a great location, though I wouldn't have put it in that new building.
