  1. Judging by the lack of responses I guess nobody is as excited am I am about the idea of not losing another airline. That in my opinion would have been a serious blow to the airport. Although AirTran has made known the reason they are not at GSP is because of Delta and if they ever left that AirTran would provide service to GSP, how long would it have taken? In that period of time the prices would have gone astronmical, and how long would it take for GSP to rebound even once AirTran came. I'm happy as heck we didn't have to go through that again like when Independence folded. I have to fly once or twice a year, and price is important to me. I'm satisfied with the prices now, most of the time. I'm not going to stand on my "bully pulpit" this time and preach about Atlanta and Charlotte not being too close, but too far, just that everytime I fly it'll be out of GSP.
  2. The hostile takeover of Delta has been shotdown So the fares will remain rediculous and reach SUPER rediculous. On a serious note I dont think the prices are bad enough to make me ever want to drive to Charlotte or Atlanta to catch a flight. I don't care what anybody says neither one is "too close" if anything they are too far. I found 2 tickets from GSP to Corning-Elmira Regional in New York for just under 700 for both. Compare that to 8 years ago I had to pay over 800 for one ticket to Los Angeles.
  3. That should answer the question of why its called an "International" airport now. The cargo plane that flew in was from the Ukraine. I'm sure BMW gets a lot of cargo from overseas as well.
  4. Well I'm sure y'all have read the bad news, Independence may be no more before too much longer. Although we maybe losing one airline, they did confirm that they are in active talks with JetBue. Which makes the bad news a little more bearable. All of us wanting Southwest may also be out of luck, they don't seem to be even remotely interested anymore.
  5. Yeah that would be suffice. I think the idea is for statues of Greenvillians, although it would be nice for Lance to be included, at the same time it would take away from the idea. However an inscription descriping the signifigance of George's efforts and his being the only teammate to ride with him on all 7 Tours.
  6. How about Hard Rock in RiverPlace. Just a thought.
  7. Great idea RT! Hard Rock Cafe would be a great addition to downtown.
  8. Great shot. I've been trying to get a good shot from the top, but never had a good onough camera. If ya know how to get up there I think it would be a great shot.
  9. I was in the middle of writing a post and had another idea, so I had to erase the whole thing and start over . How about one of George Hincappie along the proposed bike trail if its ever built. If it isn't built it would be cool along the path from Cleveland Park, like where the trail ends in Falls Park . Ya know him on the bike after he won Stage 15 in the Tour de France, arguably the toughest stage in the whole tour this year. Just a thought.
  10. I know it's not downtown but that last post kinda turned a light bulb in my head. It wouldn't be living in the past but rather honoring it. How about a statue of John D. Hollingsworth, say like out at ICAR maybe in the center of the roundabout by his home. Again not downtown, or really Greenville for that matter, but another good one would be Roger Milliken not only was he a textile giant but he also brought us, along with other people, our beloved Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. They already named the airfield after him why not a statue in the plaza area outside the resteraunt.
  11. Thanks for the info RT. 1.8 must be last years numbers I thought they went over 2 million this year or are going to. 5 million by 2023 is impressive. Looks like they should start implementing that master plan a little early huh.
  12. Those look like the ones that Delta flies from GSP to Atlanta. Well a mojority of thier flights I have flown on a small jet to Atlanta, but for the most part they have been the spacious DC-9's. Which are way more comfortable.
  13. Same here I hate regional jets because I'm not short, about 6 foot 1, and they are not condusive to taller people. I have a feeling of being clostrophobic on the smaller jets because the space being so cramped. So I would be all for bigger planes.
  14. Has anyone heard any more rumors about JetBlue or any other airlines looking at GSP latley? Last I heard JetBlue was interested and GSP was too small for Southwest at present, not too small just not enough passengers to support flights.
  15. Beowulf the last shot you did with the old bridge abutment, if its in the same property as the one above it, isn't that the Gassaway Mansion off East North Street?
  16. It's better than the Mauldin Diamond Jaxx, or the Powdersville Suns. I myself hate the name but I will walk the few blocks from my home to watch them play when I have time off. I was one of the Green Sox supporters. Oh well April 6 if I'm not mistaken I'll be there with bells on.
  17. Times like this I'm glad I don't have access to the internet everyday, because I would be on this thing every waking second waiting for btoy to spill the beans, , although it is good to hear about a "huge" development. It is TORTURE not knowing though. And i will keep the pressure on by asking is it downtown?
  18. they also fly to Orlando, they just cut the Tampa flight earlier this year.
  19. when was the last time you flew out of there because since independence came last year the other airlines lowered their prices to compete, so the prices aren't ridiculous anymore. its just as cheap to fly out of gsp now than atl or douglas. plus the money you may save on a ticket by driving to either one youre gonna waste on gas to get there. so for me gsp is the logical choice. JMO
  20. I got one of that fountain after the ice storm last winter. It is indeed a good "hide-away". My little refuge from the hustle and bustle.
  21. An article in the paper yesterday says that as a part of lowering operating costs Independence will cut 2 flights daily to D.C. so it's going from 5 a day to 3, which is not terrible news. As for the US Airways-AirWest merger doesn't appear as though there will be any effect on flights here. Also I dont see Delta going anywhere anytime soon. So all in all good news, not the greatest but given the possibilities it could have been worse.
  22. It seems to me that they are going to keep at least some grade crossings, because I believe they are planning ahead, if youve been out to the ICAR/ Millinium campus, instead of tearing up the track and paving over where it used to be they upgraded the interchanges I believe there are 2 of them. They could raise it in some areas or go subterrainian in others who knows, but the way it appears there are going to be some grade crossings. Who knows I could be wrong and that could turn out not to even be for light rail, but I think I might be right only time will tell.
  23. I can't wait to see the finished product when this block is redeveloped, and the dull retro 70's BOA tower is modeled. They say the old Woolworth building site is going to be "multi-story" I wonder how "multi" maybe mid-rise or could we be seeing another high-rise in the works. Just a thought.
  24. thanks for clearing that up brad it makes more sense now.
