  1. Being from South Carolina we don't have a reputation for having the greatest education system in the country and they figure this is a prime example of that, and quite frankly I'm a bit ticked off by the reaction because I'm a product of that system and I'm not an idiot but because I'm from SC people tend to take things like this to say how stupid we are. I say leave it alone I probably would have been petrified myself. Lets just hope she doesn't take this horrible experience and let it destroy her life. She isn't at an age were this kind of negativity wouldn't mess her up. I couldn't even watch it, I felt so bad for her. However back on subject, I guess it all depends on your destination as far as how much it'll be out of GSP. On the other hand for me, your case is obviously different, but for me even $120 is not enough to make me want to drive to either Charlotte or Atlanta to catch a flight. It takes $50 these days to fill up my truck. It would probably be at least a half tank there and back, so there I cut out half of the savings I would have gotten. In my mind it's just not worth it. However only once have I paid over $400 for a ticket, that was like 10 years ago. It's probably worth it for you and not trying to change your mind, my hope for the future is that they lower the prices across the board at GSP and try to draw these people back to use their own airport. Theoretically it would start a chain reaction of more direct routes and so on and so forth as to where I can get a direct flight to where I want to go instead of connecting every time. Only time will tell if they ever figure it out. I think they are starting too.
  2. This past July I got a ticket from Sacramento to GSP through DC for like $350. Now 10 years ago I did pay $800 one way from here to Los Angeles, via Atlanta of course. As for recently I never pay that much.
  3. I'd much rather them say it right than to butcher it like they so many times do. According to some pilots I've flown into Greensville, Greensfield, Greenfield, Spartansburg, ect., ect. GSP is fine with me or even SPG as long as if they do shorten it they say it right. It really bugs the crap out of me when they do that for some reason.
  4. Looks like the flight to Las Vegas was nearly full yesterday which I hope is a good sign, and not just a sign that everyone wanted to get on the first flight out there.
  5. It would be a good idea for getting around the city of Greenville, but the people who work in the region, i.e. outside of the city would be out of luck. I understand Atl, and San Fran are far bigger than us, however I believe that a system like theirs would be better for getting people from Clemson to Greer, Travelers Rest to Fountain Inn and points in between. At grade level would be better suited for people who are just going out on errands not for people who have to be at work. In my mind, I could be wrong. It's just frustrating that they think about a certain group of people and not all of them. They want to do something about traffic they have to start thinking of the bigger picture not how to get people around Greenville itself. I love Greenville, I've lived here 26 of my 27 years but I don't want something thats just going to take me to Greenville, I hate driving back and forth to work everyday because to be quite honest people don't know how to drive and it irks the crap out of me, so their solution is get me out of my car so I can deal with traffic on the *explitive* train. How does that solve anything? Spartan I mean no disrespect to you I know you were trying to explain it for me and I thank you for it, I'm just having a hard time trying to understand their logic. They want to play numbers our region has 1.2 or so million people in it just not as densely populated if they were to think about the region as a whole they might get a lot more accomplished.
  6. For all on here that have been to the Bay Area, as I recently have for the first time. I loved it, but I digress. The question I pose is this: say we get LRT is this going to be like BART light rail, or MUNI light rail? Although both are great I would much rather a BART, or more local example MARTA, style which has a track of it's own. Whereas the MUNI train is street level, for the most part, and would have to contend with traffic and yes have to stop at intersections. I want a train that gets me from A to B, with the only stops being at the various stations throughout. Don't get me wrong nothing wrong with the MUNI in the least; just not my idea of something I want to ride for 40 miles round trip a day. What would be the difference , the only thing would be me not driving the conductor would be the one dealing with the traffic. It would be great around downtown and maybe out to ICAR and The Point, not to Fountain Inn. I only say this because what I interpreted that report saying is that either way at some point either mode they mentioned would have to run along the street. I would ride a train from here to Fountain Inn everyday if it were on a line the whole way and never on the street. I don't mean to sound like I can't be satisfied , but Rapid Transit to me means not having to stop for anything but designated stations. Maybe I read too much into the report I hope that is the case and I'm over reacting.
  7. ^^^ You must be on the DPC board.
  8. Well there is a little time for the JetBlue rumor to come true there is 4 months left.
  9. Sorry I'm late on this one I was reading your post and had a little bit of a chuckle, because it sounded a little Charlestonesque to me. Anything down there on the upper peninsula is considered "North of Broad" everything south of Broad is considered "real" Charleston, lol. Maybe it's just me I found it a little amusing.
  10. I wouldn't say that Ft Lauderdale has that much demand per se, however it's proximity to Miami would spur the most demand for that route in my mind. I believe Miami is one of the top 10 destinations out of GSP if I'm not mistaken.
  11. Couldn't you see GSP getting this route too. If that happens GSP could become like a hub for Allegiant, not saying it's going to, however the 3 hubs they already have are the only other ones with more than two routes. We have 3 already IF we get Ft Lauderdale that would make 4 twice as many as any non hub airport for Allegiant. I could be wrong there could be another out there with more than 2 as far as I know though there isn't.
  12. It was before the jet years. I'm not sure if it was, it had to have been, Greenville's commercial airport right up until GSP opened, which was in the early 60's if I'm not mistaken. I believe at that time Airlines were still using prop-jobs. It wasn't until after the opening of GSP and Downtown's classification as a private airport that they started getting jet traffic. Greenville Downtown is more than capable of handling regional jets. Some of the jets based at the airport are bigger then they are. It would have been even scarier if they had tried to land on the short runway because I believe they need a little more than 5,000 feet to safely land and take off.
  13. In my opinion a bus only system under ANY management will not work. Move forward with light rail I for one will not even entertain the thought of using GTA till then. I live just outside of downtown Greenville near the hospital and work in Fountain Inn. For one the buses don't even really go anywhere they go on the outskirts of the city limits and they go downtown. Heck the CAT from little ole Clemson goes to Anderson and sometimes out this way. I think I would much rather CAT take over and be the Regional Transit Authority. It's ran way better than GTA has ever been ran. I wouldn't be surprised if Clemson, Anderson , Seneca and all points in between got light rail before Greenville does. GTA is ineffective, scrap it bring in the CAT and watch it grow. For those who are sitting there saying nay nay gvillenative go to the Clemson area and find out for yourself. You're saying to yourself well Clemson is a university they need CAT, well Furman is a university as well heck let them start up a transit system, I'm gonna quit before my brain explodes. That's my rant and I'm sticking to it.
  14. gvegascple, thank you for your insight. I had figured much of the headache was due to the construction up there. I know GSP is smaller, that is the reason I brought up Sacramento. For it to be a major airport it is, aside from GSP, the most convenient airport I have been to. No maze, no shuttle from here to there to get yonder. All of the ticket counters lined up with their perspective gates. As far as taking advantage of GSP while it is convenient you best believe I'm going to. GSP is, has been, and will always be the airport I fly out of.
  15. I must say without a doubt GSP has to be my favorite airport. Very convenient and not confusing at all. Can't really say the same of Dulles. I understand they are doing a lot of construction up there, however I hope they have a better plan about how to move people from terminal to terminal than those shuttles you have to get on. We came in at Terminal D, had to take a shuttle to B, where we boarded another shuttle which took us to the main terminal, then we had to get on yet another shuttle to get to A. Mind you we didn't get on the wrong shuttle at any point in time, thats the way they have it laid out. Furthermore it looks as though they went out of their way to make sure you have to walk outside to get on the regional jets. All gates for the regional jets are ground level with a covered walkway out to the plane, but you have to step outside and walk a ways to get on the plane. Dulles is by far my least favorite airport hands down, and I've been to quite a few including O'Hare and Dulles takes the cake. Sacramento on the other hand is up there with GSP as far as convenience. Check in walk in a straight line up the stairs through security and right out to your gate.
  16. One would think though if they were to land a hub of some sort that the second runway would be needed because the existing runway would reach more than 60% capacity.
  17. This is me being confused here for a brief moment I always thought that Orlando-Sanford International was Orlando's main airport. Did not know they're were 2 major airports that served Orlando. With all of the tourism down there I'm not at all surprised by the fact, just didnt know.
  18. VICTORIOUS! Could not believe my eyes when I read the news today. Flights to Vegas?!?! A dream come true.
  19. Where is this Super Bi-Lo? I drive to Fountain Inn via 385 everyday and never remember seeing this being built. Is it farther up West Georgia Road going towards Greenville Tech?
  20. Nice shot. Also realized last night you can see traffic in and out of GSP from Wade Hampton Blvd.
  21. I say its in Greenville because I'm from Greenville and really a lot of people I know from out of state refer to the whole area as Greenville. People in Spartanburg are a litte testy about it though.
  22. I hate to pick on you but you do know someone on here will take offense to the fact that you mentioned BMW is in Greenville. That would be nice though having another low cost airline in here. The more the merrier I like to say
  23. this is a little off subject, but what ever happened to Air Canada. Didnt we have a direct flight to Toronto at one time or another. Did it just fizzle out or is my mind just making things up and we never had it to begin with. Frontier would be nice would love to connect in Denver when I come back from my "vacation" in California in July and have one stop in Denver and fly straight into GSP from there. Would be nice. For now I think I'm stuck with a 2 stopper with the first one being in Las Vegas, DARN IT! LOL. Direct from here to Vegas would be nice, arent they like one of the top 5 destinations out of GSP. US and Delta, and dont forget Allegiant they already fly out of there why can't they just add a couple routes to Vegas? I would be all over it. Has anyone ever been through McCarran? Slot machines in the terminals? Never mind the last question Google Earth just answered it for me. With Allegiant be so succesful to and from Orlando, they added flights and now are flying to Tampa/St Pete one would think Vegas would be on the horizon at least a few years out.
  24. I think it's only more expensive if you book it last minute. Before I get jumped on I know sometimes you don't have a choice, but in my experience with flying out of there I've had the luxury of booking in advance and have found it to be cheaper most of the time.
  25. Didn't know where to post this, but there was an article today on greenvilleonline.com stating that Greenville has one of the lowest costs of living in the nation. Now the interesting part was they studied Greenville and Spartanburg individually and it said that Greenville was like the 85th largest area studied with a population of 570,538 and Spartanburg was 166th with 259,224. If only Greenville and Spartanburg's populations reflected these numbers maybe people and businesses would'nt be so reluctant to give us a chance. Although Greenville is starting to come into it's on we could still use a little help. Spartanburg too, I didnt forget about ya'll .
