  1. If I'm not mistaken there was at least talk of a new interchange at Old Sulphur Springs when I-CAR and Verdae where announced. To help with the congestion
  2. I believe the development is designed to keep as much traffic off of Woodruff as possible. Thats why the road is being extended through The Point to I-CAR. I hate Woodruff Road with a passion, so I'm opposed to anything thats going to add anymore headache to that corridor but I believe realistically this is not going to have that much effect on Woodruff Road. Which is why I am not opposed to this project in the least. They, at least I think, had that in mind and the fact the city and county are trying to work on getting people to use other roads around Woodruff to get where you need to go on Woodruff or where ever else you need to go in that area. Theres more than just 1 road that is affected by this project. Laurens, Millinium, Old Sulphur Springs, Verdae, to name a few so that 30+ thousand vehicles a day that is estimated to be produced by this development have more than 1 ingress/ egress point and I'm sure they'll use it to their advantage. I know I will.
  3. I hate to be a pessimist but as long as people keep driving to Atlanta or Charlotte to "save money" I'm not sure we are going to be on many expansion lists. They want full planes. Quite simply because Atlanta & Charlotte are so "close" and "much cheaper" nobody wants to fly out of GSP, so we can't give them the full planes they want. For the record I agree with them being cheaper, but being too close highly disagree. So much so that I would never waste gas to drive to one of the others. They are only cheaper because of competition. We have none. So airlines here are pretty much free to do as they please and charge us twice as much as the other 2 major airports mentioned above. For example SouthWest flies 757's if I'm not mistaken. Last time I was on an MD-80 to Atlanta out of GSP, the plane wasn't even 1/4 full. We can't fill an Md-80, which is a civilian version of the military C-9, we can't fill a 757 so until then that eliminates SouthWest, so on and so forth. I would love to see these airlines at GSP, I want to remain optomistic, it's just hard sometimes. I will continue to do my part to help which is fly GSP every time I fly. Hopefully we have a breakthrough soon and some good airline decides to give us a chance. I'll be waiting. End Rant.
  4. There is a public hearing today on the McChesney project out at the point. Seeing as how we have hotels with 100 to 150 rooms usually in the neighborhood of 6 to 10 floors I just wonder how large a 420 room hotel could be. This is a great project that wouldn't have as big an impact on Woodruff road traffic as everyone would like to think. I hope it doesn't get the ax like the other projects have recently.
  5. Was looking around on Google Earth and it had a clip from Wikipedia about GSP. I just found it interesting that they mentioned that they are attempting to land a low cost carrier such as AirTran or Southwest. I would love a low cost direct flight to the west coast. Maybe San Diego. Me being a beach bum I would be in hog heaven
  6. I've heard about this store for quite some time on here but I have never heard of REI before seeing it mentioned on here, can someone enlighten me as to what I have to look forward to from this store?
  7. I was going topost this 2 days ago that I was indeed wrong that it is a Homewood Suites and not Hilton Garden Inn. Sorry dont have a functioning digital cam, but the first floor is starting to take shape. Looks more of an L shape than a U shape though of course I could be wrong I was going 70 at the time coming off 85 onto 385.
  8. Well I'm gonna give it a shot in the dark but by knowing that hotel chains for the most part usually stick to the same configurations for most of their hotels. i.e. Hilton Garden Inn in Charleston, Columbia, and Anderson look exactly the same, so and so forth. Given the way I saw the foundation going in it looks to me like a Hilton Garden Inn. Homewood suites if I'm not mistaken usually have a broader U shape. I could be wrong. But thats my best guess.
  9. I would suppose Alligiant Air having something to do with the increase although its not that big. What are they flying like 3 or 4 flights a week as opposed to Independence's 3 or 4 a day. Maybe if they were to bump it up to the level Independence had it there would probably be about the same increase.
  10. I am just offering my opinion as to why but seems like people would rather drive to Charlotte or Atlanta to catch a flight because it's cheaper. If those people where to fly out of their airport we might be able to fill the flights we got now and make the airlines think about expansion. As it stands ATL and CLT could be taking some of our routes so to speak. IMO.
  11. It's not really needed per se. Just desired. IMO
  12. Should we change the name of this thread from "CONSTRUCTION THREAD: Magnolia Park Town Center" to "Fight Night"? I don't know if I speak for anyone else but quite frankly I'm tired of trying to read a topic, be it what it may, and having to weed through all of the childish bickering. You're both right you are just arguing symantics and it gets very old. I'm not in real estate or construction or anything having to do with developments I build engines. I want to come on here and read about whats going on in my city and THIS is what I have to deal with. Can we get on with the topic at hand? If its not too much to ask.
  13. Driving down 85 through Anderson County heading into Greenville County around highway 153, haven't drove that way in a while so I cant remember the exact spot but somewhere around there. You see the top part of the Landmark Building.
  14. I flew through GSP a couple weeks ago to and from Upstate NY; got caught in the whole US Airways baggage debacle, ya know 4 bags checked, 4 bags lost but that a story for another time. Back on subject, in concourse A which I might add is the first time I ever flew out of A I usually wind up flying out of B, however I noticed the newsstand and the had kinda like a little resteraunt and bar in the corner by A-1. The food was alright , a little pricey, but alright. When did they add these. The last time I flew before this was about a year or so ago and all I saw was a snack stand that was hardly ever open. These are much needed additions because I for one get hungry just before I fly for some reason, and I would like something to read so they killed two birds with one stone so to speak.
  15. Seeing as how they are predicting it'll be about 5 years before they have to build that second runway, at the rate they do things it'll prolly be 10 years, I'd say. I wish sooner rather than later. Who knows they might shock us.
  16. Have some not so great news from Frontier Airlines today. Berry, At this time we don
  17. The article says they would announce their routes for the turbo-props in May, what about the regional jets that GSP requested. Is it all going to be one big announcement, or are they going to announce the regional jet routes seperatly? Good question I think I'll shoot an e-mail and hope for a response.
  18. They won't build the second runway until the current one is over it's capacity.I think they said something like 70% capacity. Meaning having planes waiting in line to take off; then they will build it. They are a lot like the rest of this wonderful state, they'll plan ahead but won't impliment the plan till it's almost too late. At current the terminal is almost used at 100% capacity, although I've never used the B concourse, always the A. Funny it just always seems to happen that way. Back on subject. Once the airlines start coming in, I'd say one more, and it would be time to expand the terminal; and for Gods sake bridge the A & B concourses and put some restraunts up there theres more than enough room. We're on the verge I believe of that start of some expansion if we get anymore airlines in here. If we don't then you can forget about it for a while.
  19. You can also get a good view just before the Verne Smith Parkway intersects with 101. You can pretty much see the whole airfield from there. I saw on a show the other day, can't remember the name, but they said the largest lift ever made was by an AN-125. The load was somewhere in the neighborhood of 135 tons. That load they broad in a while back, for BMW I believe it was, was just over 100 tons. So weren't far off from the world record. If it can handle an AN-125 fully loaded it can handle any aircraft in the world, except maybe the Space Shuttle landing because it needs about 15,000 feet, but I digress. So the only problem we have getting big planes in here is just filling them up. If we could fill them up they would fly larger passenger planes in here, which I pray for in the future. That has to be my only gripe with GSP, is the regional jets. I'm not a short person 6'1" to be exact not very comfortable for me. I know other people have plenty of gripes about the airport but that has to be my only one.
  20. Yes indeed. It already has nice mid-rise density another one would be welcomed with open arms, by me at least. No matter which corner
  21. I thought about it after I posted this. If a building where to go there and have to be 35 feet off main street to have the height then that building would have to have a pretty small footprint considering the Peacock Hotel & Spa is going up right behind that site. So I"m not really sure if I think it's that corner now. I'll have to drive by today to get a better idea of what we're talking about here.
  22. I wonder if when "said city" has connections farther west how much farther are we talking west coast or just more mid-west than "said city" already has service. I guess my question is this: are we talking St. Louis, Kansas City farther, or Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles farther. Don't read into this too much I'm not talking about those cities specifically, more or less those cities or points in between.
  23. Couldn't this be across from the Westin Poinsett where the old Kimbrells building is, on the other side of the Liberty Building? If so I wondered if it passed the DPC seeing as how they say that building is "architecturally signifigant". If I'm not mistaken the new city hall development site would border South Main and Broad streets.
  24. Sorry G-Man, but I'm a little confused now. I remember reading of one on a post about RiverPlace but for you to say "these 30 story towers" means there is more than 1 in the works. If so that's awsome. So to clear up the confusion there is not just one being "rumored" but several?
  25. So , is this 30 story tower just a figment of our imaginations or is it something that could possibly happen? I also agree anywhere downtown would be nice. With the landmark building being visible from the Anderson County line on 85 just think how a 30 story building would look. We would have 2 buildings visible from the interstate.
