That Belk store actually had frontage on College, Fifth, Trade (when they purchased Efrid's Dept. Store) and Tryon....all four sides of the block! The bldg called ACC (American Credit Corp) was once "The CutterBuilding". Notice that the BBT (aka Southern National Bank) only has one floor of windows in the cap. The white bldg on Trade (Idon'tknow what it's called now) in the Carrillon/ Grand Bohemian block was originally the Charlotte hq of Wachovia before the 1stUnion merger and before the move from Winston Salem. Aaaaaaah History.

I love how that last piece of "Goodyear Blue" wall is holding on for dear life. Hey remember when you could go to that Goodyear or the Firestone that was on the DEC corner?
-
Nice shots KJHburg. Thanks.
-
Did you really say "the socialist free lanes"?
-
Beautiful job KJHburg! Now get out to CLT and give us a visual progress report on "E", A North and the elevated curbside. Just beggin'.

Could someone provide me with an explanation: This "Phase VIII" of "E" Concourse, (1) are there certain jets that just can't accommodate air bridges? (2) Does the term "shielded from the elements" mean it is enclosed i.e. HVAC? It seems like (and I haven't strolled through "E" in many years)it is one band-aid built on top of another. I mean, why not streamline "E" like A-North will turn out? Are these small regional jets not designed for regular gates? Just askin'......

Does anyone actually know of a firm plan from Duke and/or cable/phone to underground in Southend? I remember reading about a $14B overhaul of their grid but maybe someone has some more recent info?

The light pole on the edge of the new elevated drive ......is that part of the revised plans that include the beautiful giant canopy?
-
Once it's covered in naphtha-kerosene residue you'll like it much more.

It (the top) certainly resembles the little crown on the original airport terminal across the runway.

Can someone enlighten me as to why, after 25 years or so, the railroads that serve Charlotte, own right-of-way in and around Charlotte, along with NCDOT have so much trouble coming together on projects like grade separation, station building, the Red Line and sharing right-of-way? Do any of these factions want to work together? The 17th largest city in the US, the 2nd largest city in the southeast (Wiki). All of these projects should be in full tilt right now. WTF?

Wowee!, 5 crane bases. Hell-of-a project! Thank you both for the pics, renderings and change order update. I guess we're not going to see too much on the last part of the ER until those new cranes are utilized and removed. Looks to me like there is going to be a s#$%load of activity during arriving/departing in these next 2 years.

Well, we've seen a lot of photo updates of "A" but not since December have we seen any for the elevated roadway other than the CBJ Feb 2019 remark. Anyone happen to get any photos of the ongoing construction on the elevated roadway? After 2 months since any published pics we should be able to see some progress. Obviously the redesign for the new glass (plastic) canopy probably means some delay to work those giant supports between the roadway and car rental/parking garage. Just curious.

This is not related to the Barringer although I remember when it had WRPL Radio studios on about the 8th floor. Say, I grew up on Seneca Place in the 50s & 60s slightly west of the Sugar Creek Trib Bridge (Madison Park). Are there any older plats that show how much property Mr. Graham's (Billy's dad) Dairy farm incapsulated? I'd love to know if it went that far west of Park Road?

Vis-a-vis North Tryon Street: Lennar, Carolina Theatre/Intercontinental, Discovery Place, Public Library, Ten Tryon, Levine and even Grand Bohemian (I know, I know...south side of Trade).....have any of these projects turned any dirt yet?

Additionally, that Dominion viewpoint shows 3 of the only 5 skyscrapers that were here before 1968: To the left of Ascent was what use to be Wachovia and to the right of Ascent the 2 buildings of equal height adjacent to each other were the NCNB building and the Johnston Building. Charlotte has come a long way! -

Just the same, that's another great perspective of uptown. Thanks for the clarification. -

What a Vibrant, gorgeous city Charlotte is! Thank you AirNostrum for a fantastic walking tour of my home town. Great work.

That article is quite encouraging for the future of CLT. Maybe that kind of trend will speed up the construction timetable on DestinationCLT. Thank you for the link .

It was announced in 67-68. Original construction price was $5,000,000.00, imagine that?
