  1. Fencing at Sycamore! Is that an indication of the Portman Condo tower?
  2. I was curious so I watched that beautiful video about the "Brooklyn Collective". Not once did they use the term "Brooklyn Village"! The term "Brooklyn" was used all over the video. I grew up in the QC and I was a kid of 6 when "Urban Renewal" came to Brooklyn. It took me getting into my teens before I realized that so many members of the community were uprooted in the name of progress. So sad. Anyway, so Charlotte gets around to renaming Stonewall......Brooklyn Village Avenue! WTF! "Brooklyn Avenue" would have been perfect! Adding the word "Village" to the street name only pays homage to someone or entity who has not closed on the property, has not finalized any plans and with the naive help of the city, been able to keep all of that historical property hostage for close to 10 years. "Brooklyn Collective Avenue" would have even been a better name. I love seeing respect paid to the past but I really dislike the idea that a street is renamed after a development name.....a development that doesn't even exist except talk and constantly changing sketches.
  3. Some proxy observations: The CLT website pre-warned everyone that this closure and all of it’s contingencies we’re going to occur. Subsequently Hurricane Ian probably figured into the beginning of this announced 2 week period so I wouldn’t be surprised if the closure extends after this Thursday. Here, all this time we’ve all assumed that the bulk of CLT biz was hub related. Looks to me like a lot more people are beginning or ending their trip in Charlotte. That should help sell the need for the Silver Line! Those videos of snarled traffic sure make a solid argument for rails to the airport!
  4. KJ, That was a great article. It is truly amazing to see that kind of selflessness and humanitarianism. Forget about red tape, forget about approval.....just get down there and do the job. KJ, you are a swell guy! Now get out to to CLT and take some new construction pics!
  5. Say, That "LB" Master Plan....how recent is that work. It looks like they aren't building the A North addition like the "LB" plan shows and the idea of expanding crazy ole "E'" just to tear it down again. Is the "LB" plan just a concept?
  6. I certainly believe and support the concept of hiring minority sub-contractors ( it appears to have worked well at ATL) like Mr. Peebles is touting and I realize that part of being a developer is a "fake it til you make it" attitude. I would love to see this project happen.....but I don't think it will.
  7. IMHO, No Brooklyn! At least not by this guy.
  8. I flew into Charlotte for a quick visit a few weeks ago. I had planned to park my rental at a park and ride lot on Woodlawn so I could ride the Blue Line but there was not one single car in the parking lot and I didn't feel like leaving a car that I was responsible for in that unguarded, empty lot (and it was a weekday). SO I drove downtown with the same plan for the streetcar. Well, instead of riding on the streetcar I just drove the route. After 10 minutes of crawling behind the streetcar I got out of that long slow line and just drove the route myself. The streetcar looks ultra modern and the route is certainly capable of attracting riders i.e. JCSU, CPCC, Square, Gov. Center, Novart, but the lack of priority to the streetcar makes it seem a very safe ride at Carowinds that people use when they want to avoid a daredevil ride. I wish the city luck in improving this dilemma but it's gonna be an uphill solution.
  9. That beautiful building will probably be designed, constructed, finished and occupied before anything, ANYTHING gets done on the Brooklyn project. Just sayin"!
  10. With all of the time that that the gold line has to await a rule breaker, they damn sure have time to copy down a license plate number. How about a $1000 fine for anyone who blocks the track more than one minute. They'll stay off then!
  11. So, Dr. Donut, whom I truly enjoy reading, please predict for us in your swami type foresight, how many cranes will be in the air above Uptown & Southend in 2022?
  12. I am surprised that one of you amazing UPers who are photoshop savvy haven't superimposed the CLT entrance Rotunda out in mid field surrounded by jetways. I would do it if I knew how.
