  1. I have fond memories of the mall as well including a lighthouse print I purchased from Z Gallerie. Those were good times.
  2. Today I happened upon this demolition (Pembroke (2?). Vdogg, can you remind us what's going here?
  3. This article is about the state of the malls in the area. Personally, I find it a little sad that most malls are perishing while only the strong survive. I was in Lynnhaven yesterday and was surprised at lack of people in this once bustling center. Most people, myself included, buy a lot things online these days. https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/state-of-the-mall-2022-no-more-than-2-in-hampton-roads-expected-to-survive/
  4. The city may purchase the Schooner Inn as part of Rudy Loop redevelopment. https://www.pilotonline.com/government/local/vp-nw-schooner-hotel-1206-20221206-vqv273phxjflnpkhtghw3jypaa-story.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Inside Business&utm_content=6321670421064&smtrctid=
  5. Blah. I know that center very well. It would very neat if the city would rezone that area for mixed use. It could be a great small town center type development for that sea of suburbaness.
  6. The state of the region address is a bit negative for the region. As a whole, the entire state is lagging where our southern neighbors are flourishing. https://ewscripps.brightspotcdn.com/55/2b/ee7c507c404e95923de62b941e23/state-of-the-region-full.pdf
  7. The city is looking for ways to fill increasing vacancies in retail especially in urban districts. https://www.pilotonline.com/government/local/vp-nw-fz22-downtown-vacancies-rising-20220903-dbqphr3gffbkppw3ulz45qi7xa-story.html
  8. Back in the day, Norfolk had some posh department stores located downtown.
  9. A great time for the city. Considering other postings in the development thread that’s over 730 great paying jobs in the last couple of months.
  10. A local firm is expanding with 40 new jobs average salary $95k. https://www.pilotonline.com/inside-business/vp-ib-vectrona-expansion-0822-20220817-ibxzbuslyvfgjabbh2737d2pjq-story.html
  11. Maybe they’re “afraid” of development across the street at Pembroke Place. To be sure there is room enough for both to exist, to expand and build. I just don’t get it.
  12. A bit off topic but did your dad work for Sovran Bank? I worked their retail credit branch way back. Good times.
  13. Time for that new tower. We’re still awaiting….
  14. If my memory is correct there were too many environmental impacts along the route and the city finally gave up.
  15. Took this a couple of weeks ago. I’ll Troy to get a photo of the residences soon.
  16. Gee, I opened this thread hoping for some-thing. Lol. Let’s play ball folks…
  17. Suburban blandness
  18. Years ago the owner of that parcel swore to never sell his property.
  19. That’s a great area for mixed use.
  20. ^ Bouncing off the report from our friend, Breeze announces $49 flights to NY. https://www.pilotonline.com/news/transportation/vp-nw-breeze-norfolk-0421-20220420-bb4yslzzl5bmhhgflpnnrt3rm4-story.html
  21. I’m pretty excited about Fort Norfolk. Looking good.
  22. Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach are contributing $5 million each for a total of $25 million to construct a 119-mile fiber ring through the cities as part of a larger effort to expand ultrafast broadband service in Hampton Roads. It’s great to see some competition to Cox who mostly has a monopoly on internet service. https://www.pilotonline.com/inside-business/vp-ib-broadband-fiber-20220317-x5tujjrj7zdhzndv7tfsfuflm4-story.html
