  1. I see the Jumbotron is almost finished but question what happened to the adding the 30,000 new seats on the north end of the statium they said they were going to do?
  2. Um yes it is true. if you want to build up higher then the areas height restriction pulling back from the street is what you have to do. which is a good thing i mean because you add greenery to the front of your building.
  3. oh yeah i know why they do that. i had a meeting with the Zoning office in DT and the reason they pull it back from the street it so they can build higher. height restriction is limited by how far you pull the building from the street. the further back the higher you can go.
  4. Explain please i'm not quite getting what your saying.
  5. Yes true but, I think a lot of us should look at growth and adjust it. i mean if a certain area wants to see a certain type of growth and its being offered growth but its not what they were looking for i mean Compromise is in progress afterwards. what you rather see Growth, Growth that makes a bit of both sides happy or the growth leaving because of too much conflict? all of this is of course IMO
  6. growth is growth really shouldn't matter.Design change the original design looks perfect but i believe a change might be in order. Probably something along the line or Mixed use surrounding the Walmart anchor store. with about 3 levels of above ground Garage above the main store. something like that if they change it to something like that then that would be great for that area.
  7. This is a great idea i was really hoping they build this the best idea the city had yet. the area is really going to grow now.
  8. See we see this a a good thing but theres people in that area sees it as a bad thing. great example shows everytime theres a walmart being built the area sees major growth fast. because its needed for the store. and one in Downtown is the perfect spot. surrounded by USC 3 Major Nieghborhoods and with Assembly street seeing redevelopment i can see this really boosting more Mix use Stores and Residential development around this and along assembly.
  9. City council approved the Development of the Walmart in downtown. 6-1 vote. a public meeting is going to be held Tommorow (Wednesday) at city hall.
  10. COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - After several months of waiting, city council members and the public will soon be able to see how the development of a Walmart near downtown Columbia could affect the water quality of Rocky Branch Creek and flooding in the area. In February, the city came to an agreement with AMEC Environment and Infrastructure, Inc. to do the $100,000 study of the impacts from the proposed shopping center at 301 Assembly St. .
  11. This is nice more business in Downtown Columbia now.
  12. Main Street, which has seen resurgence in the arts and retail, is getting another boost in housing. Developer Ben Arnold on Wednesday opened the doors of The Palms, a Miami-style apartment building in the old Rodeway Inn at the corner of Main and Lady streets. The Palms is the second apartment development on Main Street to be built since the end of the worst recession in 80 years, joining the Lofts at Lourie’s above Mast General Store, which opened last fall. And a developer is working to turn the 21-story Palmetto Center into dorms for USC students. Read more here: http://www.thestate.com/2012/05/24/2288104/miami-flair-on-main-street.html#storylink=cpy

  16. I would like to see Trolley's back on the road and would be cool to have a few trolley's on track also to run the areas further out like harbison, northeast, southeast, and Lexington. Just a thought.
  17. I can see this going forward for a short period of time. I think a great solution is to offer from 10 Minute lunch routes like they said they was going to do in the first place to test it out for a bit. offer more WiFi for people on the buses and Also join together USC buses more and Bring at least 1 new bus to Lexington County. in areas people would need a ride.

    Innovista

Nice area if they get the go ahead to build this it would look great in that spot. but i would like for them to give the design a bit of a Modern design instead of a old school housing project design. Something more Innovista like even though its in the Historic Vista area.
  19. Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority bus service changes, cuts and consolidations began today. "We are discontinuing our Sunday service," said Executive Director of the CMRTA, Bob Schneider. "We're discontinuing six of our thirteen routes on Saturdays. We're discontinuing service after 7:30 pm. It's a very very difficult period for a lot of our customers." These changes come from the need to cut $3.6 million from the CMRTA deficit. Schneider says tough decisions had to be made in order to save the bus system and balance the budget for the rest of the fiscal year. As a result of the cuts thirty-six employees are losing their jobs at CMRTA. For the complete list of bus changes Click Here
