  1. I'm very suprised downtown Greensboro still doesn't have a true grocery store seeing how downtown Greenville, SC has two currently with two-three more in the works. I don't agree with Mr. Hunter's assessment at all about not wanting an anchor tenant downtown. Something along the lines of Borders or Barnes and Noble would be nothing short of awesome and wonderful for any downtown.
  2. I imagine it was this news article from the Greenville News: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs....EWS01/808240345
  3. Yes. Both are still part of the project. The Furman Company/Grubb and Ellis is currently trying to lease the proposed office space to tenants. Expect office space above retail and above one or both of the parking garages along I-385. 375,000+ square feet of office space. The hotel will be 70,000 square feet with 135 rooms. Loft style residential units will also be available above the retail units.
  4. Magnolia Park is slated to be open Spring 2010 with construction starting the end of this year or the beginning of next year. This information is directly from the McGarey Group.
  5. From the newest issue of the Greenville Journal: "The city should sign new development agreements for the next phase of RiverPlace within the next two weeks. The next phase is expected to include a hotel."
  6. I don't really see anything updated on those sites either. The McGarey Group's website still says "opening fall 2009" even. It doesn't take a genius to figure out this town center won't open then. Do you know when a preliminary tenant list is scheduled to be released?
  7. I'm hearing through the rumor mill a Publix might be one of the tenants. I can't confirm nor deny that. Are you talking about the Bilo next to Super Walmart? If yes, that store seems to do fairly good business from what I hear. Probably not as well now though due to Walmart's expansion adding more food options at cheaper prices. Hopefully that crying emotion you have is for Market Square Deli closing and not Burger King.

    The West End

It's on Main Street between that newly renovated small shopping center that houses the parking authority and Markley Street. It's stapled to a telephone/power pole I believe. You have Main Street then the parking lot then West End Coffee Company side by side facing toward the Drive ballpark.
  9. I don't think this has been posted yet: http://www.navarrorealestate.com/mydocumen...e_to_print2.pdf It will be called Piedmont Marketplace and total 130,000+ square feet.

    The West End

Another DPC sign has been put up on Main Street next to the parking lot that is next to West End Coffee Company.

    The West End

A DPC sign is up along Main Street in front of the Cook's Station. Anybody know what is planned?

    The West End

If you're talking about next to Rio Grille, i'm hearing a new restaurant by the owner of Azia will be built there. This is not confirmed though.
  14. The website is back up but I don't see anything updated.
  15. After they finish eating all of that fattening cheese, they're going to need a bicycle. Just don't let them ride one after having a few glasses of wine.
  16. This might answer your question: http://www.wyff4.com/news/16835611/detail....?subid=10100246 Also, walk down Main Street and look inside the fitness center located next door.
  17. Just a few updates: -Twigs will be putting in a store where Qi Mountain was located along Main Street in the West End. I imagine this is a relocation of their current store next to the Westin Poinsett. -Several building permits have been filed for tenant spaces at McBee Station. One is for Great Clips and another is for the space next to Publix. I'm not sure what will be going into that space. Great Clips will be going into a different one. -Interior construction has begun for the iplace store at Riverplace. Expect it to open sometime within the next 1-3 months. -Interior construction is also underway for Liquid Highway along Main Street inside the Hyatt building. Expect more announcements for retailers/restaurants coming downtown over the next several months.
  18. What's wrong with GAP downtown? People living downtown, on the westside of Greenville, Easley, etc. wouldn't have to drive over to Haywood Mall anymore. Times Square in New York City has a McDonald's and that gets tons of tourists and foot traffic. A lot of the problem with stores downtown is that they are too unique. They only cater to a certain group of people and there just aren't enough of them to keep the store going. I never stepped foot inside Venti before they closed and only visited Uptown Downtown once before they went under. Mast General though, which I have been to many times before is not like that and that's why they have been successful where they are. They offer a broader range of products then most stores downtown do. Also, take a look at Union Square in San Francisco. That's full of national retailers and look how many tourists it gets every year.
  19. Actually Hughes has got it right not wrong. Ever since Staples and Publix opened, I have found myself going downtown to go shopping at these stores and the local ones more then I previously did. I have visited Charleston just to check out Gucci and Saks Fifth Avenue. I personally would love to see some national retailers downtown. No, i'm not talking about McDonald's and Walmart. I'm talking about stores like Borders and Walgreens. I don't see how something along the lines of these would hurt downtown. There isn't a store downtown now that would compete with these two. Instead it would draw more people downtown and they would shop and eat more at the local establishments. It would be compliment not competition to the downtown retail scene. If local retailers/restaurants can't survive downtown due to the high rent rates then they shouldn't have been there in the first place. That's just the way the world works and you can't stop it. Oh and I thought this would be a good time to mention that Zaidee Estella's along Main Street in the West End will be closing down. Don't worry though, the store is relocating not going away: http://www.croxtongray.com/listings/wp-con...n.pdfcompletely.
  20. I'm surpised this story hasn't been posted yet. It talks about local and national retailers/restaurants for downtown: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs....07250339/-1/rss
  21. Nothing new will be going in at the present time. The city has started demolishing old abandoned structures in the area. This is the site of the proposed mixed-use development by Hughes but that is on hold at the moment.
  22. Did you forget to finish what you were going to type in your post?
  23. Starbuck's has released the list of all 600 US stores that will close. Only one location is listed in South Carolina and i'll give you one guess as to what city it's located in.
  24. The very first thing that comes up on the city's website is a link to see the master plan: http://www.greatergreenville.com/ It says to enter a username/password though when you click on the link.
  25. I'm hearing Spring 2009. I know that seems like a long time but it's really not. You have to remember that Menin bought this site in March 2007 so that would make it two years between buying the site and starting construction. Easley Town Center, which consists of a lot less than this project was in the works for three years before it started construction.
