  1. I should rephrase..."much less developed." Plus it was a long time ago, so I don't remember completely.
  2. Interesting. But couldn't the same be said of Fort Smith? Don't they have neighborhoods outside of their city limits--enough to push it over your Hot Springs number? Anyways, the growth in Hot Springs has been crazy over the past years. I remember when I was a little boy traveling down Central Ave when we first moved to Hot Springs. The outlet mall seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere. Now there are buildings all around it. It's very saturated.

    Welcome

My website doesn't exist anymore. It hosted a lot of files that probably don't work anymore.... now that I think of it, some of those newspaper images I scanned and stuff in the old threads aren't working. I plan on re-registering the website. I forgot to re-register when it expired and godaddy.com put a special claim on it where I could buy it back for like $100 in the first 60 days after it expired. I decided I'd rather just wait.

    Welcome

Whoa. The forum looks a little different.
  5. Haha...I wasn't implying any city in particular; I was just making a lame joke. But I guess it is very telling that you thought I was talking about Fay-town.
  6. Well, maybe not StayOutOfOurTownville......but I'd pretty much say: ditto.
  7. Wow....I was really impressed. Beautiful.
  8. I don't think so.... Hot Springs is its own metro area.
  9. Interesting. I had a similar perception of Fort Smith. I have a view Vietnamese friends from Ft. Smith...but they don't seem anything like the people you described.
  10. I'll be in the Philippines May 31- June 20. I'll mostly be on beaches wind surfing, snorkeling, and the like....not really any of the major cities (maybe a short time in cebu city). I'll take pics of what I can. I posted some pictures of the skylines of Manila and Cebu City over here: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.ph...39entry444739 My uncle actually owns a skyscraper in Manila for his banking biz. He went to school in America as a fulbright scholar (an Arkansan senator!) to harvard. Small world.
  11. Off the top of my head: Magic springs (http://www.magicsprings.com) Downtown Garvan Gardens Shopping (practically anywhere along central Ave) Mountain Tower Hiking Mid America Museum Bathhouse Row Various Music Shows Lake fun (hamilton or ouachita) The Belle of Hot Springs (Riverboat...err...lakeboat) You can find info on hot springs attractions here: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19769 or here http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11755 But as I glance at those threads I just linked....they go off topic very fast. The best source is the official Hot Springs website: hotsprings.org
  12. I'm going to have to brag on Mith242 here.... Here's a shot of Hot Springs, Arkansas...(my home city).....all the pics were taken by Mith242 Those collection of buildings to the right are the center of the downtown strip that runs through the Hot Springs valley. (I actually reside in the big beish building in the upper right center...) Here's a close up for perspective (i hope I'm not hijacking): To see great pictures of the historic city click here: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.ph...opic=25650&st=0
  13. That's great representation for Arkansas. Not bad for a 2.7 million people southern state. Not bad for any state, really.
  14. I really don't know that well. Metairie, I think. I was really young and only stayed until age 5....even though we visited regularly since part of my family lived there.
  15. Hmm.....I'd say Tulsa for Little Rock also. But's hard to say..... Little Rock's downtown is essentially split into two, with more and more development going to North Little Rock. The new Traveler's baseball stadium will be on the north side of the river, making all the major sports played in North Little Rock (Alltel Arena [sEC women's tourney, RimRockers, etc] and Burns Park [soccer tourney]). Dickey Stephens Park, North Little Rock, with view of LR skyline North Little Rock has slowly been taking some of the spotlight away from Little Rock. Hopefully, Little Rock will get more dense, because its downtown right now is pockholed with parking lots and the like. The skyline is fairly spread out: Little Rock's skyline is fairly boxy too. I'd like some curves. In that first pic, there is some urban infilling going on with a 19 story condo going in front of the tallest tower. This is a pic from skirby, and you can see it is behind those buildings in the first pic: But these types of developments aren't coming by that quickly, and though they're tall....they're not true skyscrapers and have little effect on the skyline. I'm hoping Little Rock gets some sort of major skyscraper in the next ten years...because at the pace we've been going the past few years we'll be getting lots of mid-highrises, but no true skyscrapers. At the very least, it will make for good urban infill and replace some of those parking lots.
  16. Ah good ole new orleans. My birthplace and home for quite a while. I was quite impressed by the shreveport downtown angle posted above too. It captured the density really well.
  17. Wow...as of now..... The Tennessee forum is 2 posts (16212 vs. 16210) posts behind the Arkansas forum.. Not really related to anything here........but it is a skybar topic.
  18. Nice. I noticed how...er...pretty... the garden was when I went to the lit festival.
  19. I've been there it's pretty.
  20. No problem. I've never heard of horatio so I was thinking you knew it was in the southwest because you looked it up when you asked. I could be wrong though.
