The popular gas station and convenience store chain Wawa is coming to Wilson, according to a site plan for a Ward Boulevard location that the city’s Land Development Department has approved, land development manager Janet Holland confirmed to the Wilson Times on Monday. Wawa’s site plan for the corner of Ward Boulevard and Nash Street indicates contractors will demolish the former Rite Aid pharmacy building that now sits vacant at the junction, with gas pumps and a store set to take its place. The Morganton Road corridor will get another upscale apartment development under plans the Southern Pines Town Council approved Tuesday. This latest development will be near the already-approved mixed-use development that includes a large retail center expected to be anchored by a Target store. The apartment complex at hand would include 269 units and typical amenities of a luxury apartment such as a clubhouse and pool. Located on just over 13 acres, the apartments would tie into the proposed Target shopping center on one side and the Morganton soccer fields on the other side. The developer is Wilmington-based Zimmer Development Co., which is also responsible for the Eagle Landing Apartments nearby on U.S. 15-501. It is to be built on parcels owned by Midland Atlantic Properties of Cincinnati. Burlington’s city council has given an out-of-town developer the all-clear to construct 252 apartments along Bonnar Bridge Parkway – a road that also serves as the primary entrance into the sprawling Mackintosh on Lake subdivision. During a regularly-scheduled meeting on Tuesday, the council unanimously agreed to let Wilmington-based Zimmer Development establish this new apartment complex on some 15.69 acres situated near Bonnar Bridge Parkway’s juncture with Danbrook Road. Dubbed the “Bonnar Bridge Apartments,” this rental development is slated to comprise seven three-to-four story buildings that will contain the proposed dwelling units.
