  1. Realistically, I bet the best we could do would be some upward facing colored beams from a couple of our flat roofs.
  2. Seems like having a structural engineer sign off on something like this could be a huge challenge.
  3. I honestly don't see a bus line driving companies to locate downtown and a street car extension isn't in the cards for the next 20 years.
  4. The Sierra Club is really getting their panties in a twist about losing a few trees in an urban park. It's still staying a park, folks! I would bet that all the new plantings in Kanawha Plaza more than offset any tree loss in Monroe Park. If they're really so worked up about losing a few trees, I bet they could spend use their energy and plant enough trees in one afternoon to offset their loss.
  5. It was the previous owners' refusal to acknowledge the extensive repairs that the property needed that led to MW leaving for Gateway Plaza.
  6. I'm not sure they have completely committed to building both towers, fwiw.
  7. I suspect digging down far enough to accommodate 40 stories worth of parking would be quite an engineering challenge.
  8. What impact do you think it will have? As I understand it, it will only cut the transit time from it's current 2 hr 15 min to around 1:30 minutes.
  9. Pretty sure the new lights in Kanawha Plaza are LED.
  10. I'd rather use that money to develop the waterfront. We have lots of nice clean nuclear power here.
  11. I once flew "Air South" from Norfolk to JFK for a similarly low fare. I remember some of the seats faced backwards, like on the train.
  12. We've got to get JetBlue or Southwest to renew those flights to JFK or LGA, that was the only thing keeping the prices to NYC down.
  13. The last time I booked a flight to NYC, I noticed that the AA flights to LGA, the Delta flights to JFK, and the United flights to EWR were EXACTLY the same > 1 month out. Nah, nothing suspicious there.
  14. I didn't even realize we had gotten back one of our non-stops to MSP.
  15. There was a big group of 20-somethings playing ultimate frisbee in the park during their lunch break -- a very multi-ethnic and mixed gender group. Looked so perfect I thought it was being staged for a photo op at one point.
  16. 700 jobs is indeed incredible, and right in the heart of downtown.
  17. I don't think that many people work there and, in any case, the people who work there now will just work in the new location -- no reason to think this will result in any new job creation.
  18. The proposal is to move the ABC facility to Manchester I think, so this wouldn't change the payment or non-payment of taxes by the ABC to the city.
  19. I could really picture this right there on Broad Street... Denver Train Station
  20. I think it's hilarious that "Sugar Bottom" used to be the red light district...
  21. Without the "mall centerpiece", you would need new separate entrances for JC 2 and 3. In my opinion, it's the failure to integrate JC 1 into the "mall centerpiece" that was the biggest mistake. The little skywalk is an embarrassment and totally inaccessible unless you can climb three dozen steps.
  22. Went over during the grand opening and talked to two very nice city representatives. They indicated that they had some new momentum on funding for the stage and the two large shade structures from the rendering and promised that it wouldn't take as long to build them as we have had to wait on the current renovations.
  23. You're certainly right, but I still flip my AC over to "recirculated air" when I drive by.
  24. Could somebody explain to me why I shouldn't be concerned about all the dust emanating from this site as I walk by? Seems like there has to be asbestos in there and we require folks to basically put a plastic bag over their house if they're replacing their asbestos roof.
