  1. At this point, I don't think anything short of converting all the schools into boarding schools is going to move the needle. You can't undo 16 hours of terrible home life with 8 hours of instruction.
  2. I'm desperate for news, rumors, anything of potential new carriers or routes!!!
  3. He's a bit of a curmudgeon if I recall from years ago when I spent time over there.
  4. I actually think Delta is head-and-shoulders above United and American at least with respect to Richmond service.
  5. United sucks, that's all you need to know.
  6. I quit United largely for that reason, but also noticed during the "hurricane" last week that literally every airline was still flying except United, which cancelled all its Richmond flights.
  7. If we're adding Southwest destinations, let's add ones that aren't already served -- like a daily flight to Nashville or Las Vegas.
  8. Their whole product idea was very stupid. It takes me less than 5 seconds to plug in my car at night and I can't imagine paying any money for a "solution" that creates a trip hazard in my garage for the entire time I'm not using it for the sake of saving 5 seconds.
  9. Of course you don't know how many seats they traditionally overbook...
  10. How do you know it's half-full? I often go online to do my seat selection for Delta flights a day or two before and the flight looks like it is plenty empty only to have it nearly oversold by the time my flight comes up. I think a lot of people aren't savvy about online seat selection.
  11. They launched them again today! Talk about not taking “no” for an answer.
  12. I think the vast majority of the higher-earning folks there lived in Richmond and made the commute anyway...
  13. I've been told that anything over 15 stories generally requires implosion.
  14. Not only that, but they snubbed us hard by building ANOTHER gym in DC for their G-league affiliate rather than locate in Richmond.
  15. Sorry, it has to be the Virginia Squires.
  16. Their teams date back to a long-ago era when Baltimore was a much more important city.
  17. I'm not worried about Ferrell getting his feelings hurt, I'm worried about the thin-skinned city council-members. As we know, they're not above knee-jerk reactions based on community complaints without any independent thought or analysis (see, e.g., the Brook Road bike lane ordinance).
  18. I have to say that I'm really shocked by the negative reaction to a comprehensive, self-funding proposal put forward by a non-profit group of prominent Richmonders that happens to involve the CEO of Dominion (as well as a number of other big companies based in Richmond). I don't know if it's because of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline or what, but so many people seem like they want to hate this project because of Dominion's involvement even though the success or failure of the project won't affect Dominion at all. Maybe people just want to hate it because it involves leadership from big business, which are inherently evil as we all know. In my opinion, while there are definitely details and compromises to be ironed out, this is probably the last best chance to have redevelopment of this area for at least 20 years. Who do you think will step in and do this if we reject this proposal out of hand?
  19. I love small, organic arenas.
  20. The uninformed negativity on this thread makes my head hurt. Going to take a break for a while.
  21. This is not a Dominion project. There is a group that has formed a non-profit to develop this area for a new arena and the CEO of Dominion is doing this on his own time. No money will flow to Dominion from this project no matter how successful. If Dominion wants the naming rights, it is going to have to outbid everybody else who wants the naming rights.
  22. Yes, it’s very improtant for the company who literally has a monopoly over the sale of electricity to build up it’s advertising and brand awareness. The naming rights will have to be sold to the highest bidder.
  23. With all due respect, you have no idea what you’re taking about. This is not a Dominion project and the success or failure of the project will not affect Dominion.
  24. Since the project supposedly pays pays for itself without including the towers, I wonder if the proposal to include them is a pre-planned “concession” to give the city something they can point to as a way to show they are hard negotiators.
  25. Let’s be clear, including the Dominion buildings in the TIF has no effect on Dominion. They pay the same bill to the city either way, but placing them into the TIF would dedicate that revenue stream to pay off that project.
