  1. Not a bad game. Definitely some things to work on; but we looked a LOT better all around. Jackson & Obada really came out of nowhere; glad to see some future stars on D. Patchwork O-Line held up somehow. And, man, CMC... Keep it up! Really not a lot to complain about besides Cam’s continued habit to overthrow. That, and I just wish we had given Anderson and Moore some more touches.
  2. My question is, what the heck is this? I see this almost every day and I can’t wrap my head around it. As far as I can tell it doesn’t exist in the renderings.
  3. This is really all just a practice round for the mega-violent-protests at the RNC under the guise of “Marine Week.” They’re just prepping for martial law
  4. With light rail out, we drove to Uptown yesterday. I saw a few A frame signs at the N Tryon stations indicating the station was closed and where to go for the busses. Only saw one person sitting at a station, and they had a CATS hat on so idk. Would’ve said something, but she had the grimace of a DMV worker who is overdue for their smoke break. That all said, I’m not sure if it was the lack of light rail or the fact that there was a Knights game, but parking in uptown was packed compared to a normal weekend.
  5. The festival was packed yesterday. I can’t believe they don’t use more blocks for this one. The venders were basically stacked on top of each other.
  6. I’m gonna miss this view. But that’s the price of progress I guess
  7. For that to happen, the city will have to invest heavily in the area’s infrastructure (or lack there of.) The monster roads there are not suited for that sort of density. A better, fuller grid (which has been drawn up by UCP) has sort of begun to be implemented, but it has a significant way to go before any type of high density development can take form.
  8. Or, you know, not. Extra sprawl is not what we need. Would totally defeat the purpose of the expressway.
  9. That angle would have made for an amazing construction time lapse. So sayeths Captain Hindsight...
  10. And the shopping center sign goes boom Seems like such a waste that they didn’t just make it a prefab part of the final structure—that they could just lift into place when its time came
  11. Every time we make the swing around 277 there, that is all I can think about. What a waste of space and the perfect place for a sports complex. Put the hypothetical new stadium (after 2030) closer to the city on that block and put the sea of tailgate parking up against the interstate. I’m not a fan of parking lots, but come on, that’s a BIG part of the experience for a lot of fans. Use the old location to extend uptown’s growth. At least they’d be out of site. I just hope our current stadium at least hits the 30 year old mark first. Anything less would be a waste.
  12. I feel like the apartment market may be softening Uptown; but, if we’re lucky, the jobs TP, Legacy, Duke, and FNB bring should bring plenty of prospective residential tenants along with them. 10 Tryon success or failure could also have a bearing on this project. Until the office sector softens, I think our residential market should be just fine to continue growing. Trust me, I’ve played a LOT of Simcity, so I’m basically an expert
  13. According to David Tepper in a press conference he just held, he is contractually obligated to not remove the statue. I guess Jerry didn’t want to be forgotten bad enough he threw that in as a contingency of the sale. Also in the press conference, he mentioned that they were in desperate need of new practice fields that “made no sense” to be next to the field; as that land would be better suited for development. He made mention of the new Amtrak/Greyhound station as well in the reasoning. So at least he’s somewhat in touch with Uptown development. He said very factually that the stadium desperately needed upgrading and he planned on using tax dollars only from sources that were supported by the organization (ie hospitality tax.) He said that he plans on opening the stadium up to many more events as well; such as high school games and concerts. Which, in turn, will drive more taxes into coffers that will help support stadium development. What worries me is he did a lot of sidestepping and was alluding to moving the stadium, but then also said it has a great location... so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He plans on removing all non-disclosure agreements within the organization so that things like JR’s harassment can not be covered up in the future. Lastly, he said he plans on driving development in the community (did not elaborate) and plans on growing the charitable organizations with the Panthers and their players’ foundations. I’m interested to see how this all turns out. He plans on hiring a president to run the day-to-day operations as he will still be working his normal job. So I guess we’ll see just how involved he really stays in the community. I hope he becomes a major player in Charlotte’s growth; but I feel a little doubtful that he will.
  14. The President of the United States is Donald Trump... I think anyone making those kinds of remarks gets a pass right now. EDIT: before I get called out on this, this post is not meant to be political. It’s a statement of where our nation is right now and what is considered acceptable when you use our president as a benchmark.
  15. Yes, yes I would. Building a structure to consolidate their offices is not an expense that should be used against a company. Building funds come from a separate bucket than liability funds. Otherwise all the money spent on coal ash mitigation would be holding back this project as well. But the average Joe will not see it that way. They’ll see money spent as money spent, no matter how it is allocated in a business plan.
  16. Anyone think this “radiated Lake Norman water” issue will cause another delay for Duke’s announcement? I can see the retaliation now: “so all these people are getting cancer and, instead of helping them, you’re building a shrine to yourselves?!?” Because that’s just people do. Have I mentioned I hate people?
  17. Sorry, let me clarify. I meant the entire extent that it goes through. Not just the short span. So much of it is just a blank, non-engaging wall.
  18. So this is half related to the blue line and half with the convention center reno. I wish the corridor that the light rail travels through the cc was entirely walled in glass. I’ve been on so many other transit systems where you could see straight through into buildings and vice versa. It would create a really interesting dynamic in the convention center to see the trains traveling through and it would make that part of the rail trail much more engaging once completed. Just a random thought for the day. Edit: clarification
  19. I very carefully worded it that way to avoid exactly that. I say attach the “proposed” deck to the front of Office Depot (a la Midtown Target/TJ/BB) and cover that entire lot. Or just tear down that building and build something that actually engages the lakefront better than the blank backside of a retail big box.
  20. The boardwalk is just fine IMO. It has charm in it’s datedness, not everything needs to be ultra-modern. IMO, it’s the big-box side that needs to be scrapped and reimagined. Those old empty shells have become a revolving door for one failed store after the next; it’s time to move on. JW Clay has the potential to be one of the city’s gems. The proper infrastructure is already there and soon it will have a much-needed direct connection to URP once the JW Clay-Research Drive bridge is built. I say tear down that whole side and line the road with five to eight story mixed-use retail/res/office. Nothing crazy, this doesn’t need to be Ballantyne. The boardwalk is a valuable asset they can easily leverage as a selling point to tenants. To alleviate parking strain for the boardwalk, add a deck next to where the Chick-fil-A is currently and call it a day.
  21. And no “NC” in sight. But come on man, those updates are ridiculous!
  22. My only issue with a hypothetical convention hotel going in this plot is purely about aesthetics. If this shares this plot with Ally, the footprint can’t be very big unless they also use the top of the parking deck as well. That would be all well and fine, except it would be a taller tower lost in a sea of towers (DEC, DEC2, TP, & TP2.) Which IMO is a good problem to have; but it would be a shame.
  23. Not sure if this will post or not. A photo on Instagram exemplifying Charlotte’s current main transit hub pretty well. Edit: couldn’t get the image to link, so here’s the photo’s link itself: http://
